The more I think about it, the more I realize that we're a lot alike Kathy.
Two blonde mothers devoted to their husbands who have a history of being ruthless when there is something they want.
Two women who are determined to always be the best.
Two women who don't want to be defined by ordinary means...
two women who were destined for this moment it would seem.
It wasn't that long ago that you and I were battling it out as the first real female rivalry in this company. It wasn't long ago that you and I were beating the hell out of each other for no other reason than we wanted to. We didn't need these “Starlets” belts to work up our adrenaline enough to fight, we didn't need any gold to thrive to see who the better lady was, we just did it for pride and for honor. You could... hell, I am going to say... we paved the way for these other women on the roster, if not for our fights, if not for what we did, if not for us doing it without any reward, there wouldn't be a ****ing Starlets championship right now.
You and I Kathy, we've been through this a lot, we've been at each other's necks way too many times for me to come out here and come up with anything that you haven't already heard pass through these lips. This match we both know is about a lot more than belts, we both know it's about a lot more than a victory. We have gone back and forth far too much for that kind of talk. So let me lay it down for you like this...
I know you've yet to beat me, I know that you're desperately wanting this victory and I know that you'd go to all the stops to make sure that you achieved these goals, but simply put... I wouldn't expect anything less. I know what you're willing to do to achieve your goals, I know what you're capable of when you set your mind on something, I know it better than just about anybody else, and I know that I'll be ready for whatever you throw my way... just like I have been each and every single time we've stepped into the ring together.
You're going to come at me with everything you have, because you have so much more to prove, because you have everything in the world to fight for to not only show the world that you're the real deal, but to also to reassure yourself that this is where you belong. There is so much on the line, there is so much that you have to prove, there are so many monkeys that you wish with all your heart that you could rip from your back... then you look at me and see that I have already done all that. I already won the Road to the Gold, I already became World Champion, and I've already gone through hell and back for this dream and now you just have to follow that path that was paved out in front of you. You've lost to me every time we faced, you've never been the world champion, you lost in the first round of the Road to the Gold, and now have to see me holding up the authentic belt while you're playing dress up with the replica.
See, there is so much that you're fighting for, so much that you're thriving for, how could I possibly stand up against you and your dreams, how could I possibly get in your way and prevent the inevitable. You saw how I accomplished it and you're going to follow the blueprint that was the guide to what I did. So what chance to I stand against the motivated underdog who is desperate for a win, who wants to bring me down at all costs and is willing to jump through any hoop put before her... why should I even try...
because I'm not ready to watch my dream slip through my fingers
I'm not ready to give up this Cinderella story.
I went through too much, I fought too hard to just have a three week title reign and then fade away into obscurity.
All the long hours training with Adam, all the battling with becoming a better wrestler by changing my wrestling style
all the pain, sweat, and suffering through the Road to the Gold tournament
I'm not going to give all that away now
I'm not going to watch you take all that from me
I'm not going to let all that work go to waste.
I've come too far for that.
And that's again... where we're a lot alike... we are both willing to do whatever it takes to achieve our dreams, we're both willing to ignore our health and well being for a goal and nothing else matters but what we have in our sights. However, you should see with that, that doesn't mean just achieving glory, that doesn't just apply to winning the world title and proving that all my detractors wrong... I'm not just willing to do all that for my pride and honor, I'm not just willing to go to the extra limits for myself, my husband or retribution for things once said...
but I'm always more than willing to do everything I can...
Just to keep you from yours.
This isn't four years ago, the grudges of our past are just distant memories and the face of NCW has changed dramatically. We're different people than we were back then, we're both mothers and loving wives, we're both top class wrestlers in this company for a division that we helped build in our own way. So much has changed, so many wrestlers have come and gone, so many people have watched their wildest dreams come true while others were brought crashing back down to reality... you're no longer the psycho bitch who literally thinks she is a cat and I'm not the spunky little bitch with dreams of unquestioned power... and here we are... as if it was written in the stars...
The two original Starlets... for the biggest prize.
forget everything else,
it's Kathy Conway versus Kelly Knite.
The originals...
The best...
That's what this is about...
THAT is what you're fighting for.
[Kelly has her cell phone pressed to her ear as she paces back and forth across the living room floor, she is clearly annoyed with the conversation on the other end of the phone but her voice remains cheery as she puts on the show for the other party. After several seconds of nodding her head and pretending to be content with the conversation she says goodbye and the phone is slung onto the couch, right before Kelly throws herself down onto the cushion in frustration. She leans her head back against the back of the sofa with her eyes closed and before too long her moment of silence in interrupted by Zelda standing over her looking down at her sister.]
“Holy eff Zelda!? What are you doing!?”
“What's wrong?”
“Nothing, now leave me alone.”
“You and I both know that I'm not going to do that.”
[Kelly shakes her head and slides over for Zelda to sit down, which she happily does by bounding over the top of the couch and is now sitting beside her sister as Kelly lets out a long sigh before spitting it out.]
“Adam blew me off again... he's spent the past week up at that damn gym he bought and every time I try to spend some time with him outside of our training sessions he says he's busy working with this new guy.”
“Well... you did encourage him to pursue this this future for himself right?”
“Yeah but this is ridiculous, he's spending every free moment up there and won't even let me come see him! Apparently this guy is paying Adam for private lessons after hours.”
[Zelda hears this and for some reason begins softly giggling to herself, which obviously makes Kelly even more annoyed which is evidenced by the fact that she's glaring at her sister sternly. Zelda bites down on her bottom lip when she sees Kelly's reaction and tries to contain herself.]
“And what the hell is so funny about that?”
“How do you know it was a guy?”
[Kelly looks shocked and is sitting with her back erect and unmoving as she stares blankly forward, the thought of what Zelda has just said really getting to her while Zelda just sits there laughing because of the absurdity of it, until she notices Kelly's face.]
“Wait.. Kelly... NO! You know Adam would never do anything like that to you! It was a joke!”
“What... what if it's not... what if he's seeing somebody else... Zelda.... I...”
“KELLY! Come on! It's Adam! ADAM! He's been insanely in love with you since the second you two met, there is no way in hell he's cheating on you.”
“How do you know? It makes sense, late hours, refuses to let me anywhere near the gym and has the place locked up tight to where I can't get in... What if...”
“STOP. Would you listen to yourself? You're getting all paranoid over nothing. This is just his first few weeks with a new business, he's just trying to make it succeed.”
[Kelly doesn't seem convinced as she just continues to sit there and stare blankly forward as in a daze. Zelda gasps in disbelief unable to believe what her innocent joke has done to Kelly in this state of mind. Zelda snaps her fingers at Kelly to try and wake her up from this funk.]
“Kelly... you can't be seriously thinking...”
“Z... just stop... I need to be alone right now.”
“Kel....”
“Please.”
[Zelda reluctantly nods her head before she stands up and begins to head away, she stops like she's about to say something but Kelly shakes her head and Zelda lowers hers before walking back to her room to leave Kelly alone with her thoughts.]
--A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER--
[The lights are out as the front door slowly swings open as Adam walks into the house. He throws his bags against the wall adjascent to the door and just as he does the lights turn on and standing there is Kelly as we take the view from behind her showing the back of her head and we can only see Adam's surprised and stunned face when he steps back in shock.]
“You're late.”
“Well... I... ”
[Adam stutters and looks for words as we suddenly fade out and are left literally in the dark.]
