I guess I should start off by giving Mike Laszlo a moment of my time that he probably doesn't deserve. Like I said earlier, this kid could have big future in nCw. I think his promo this week proved that. But it also proved that he wont have a big future - as long as he remains downright ignorant to everything else going on around him.
And I'm not talking about the stalemate between Seth Evans and Mike Laszlo, with both men denying that they know anything about the other.
Weird, in my day it was seen as a bad thing to admit you knew nothing about your opponent.
But whether Mike knows Seth or not, he definitely doesn't know "the man named Doc" - or that this "man" had actually cut two promos earlier in the week. I can see where the confusion might come from.. I mean, my board name is Lionheart. But surely he could.. I dunno.. check my bio on the nCw website? These new guys really bug me. It's not like I knew who Mike Laszlo was either before this week. But before I even considered getting on air and sounding like an ignorant jackass, I went back, watched three or four of his old promos, and found out the strengths and weaknesses of my opponent. That's called preparing for a match.
In my day, it was part of the job description.
But anyway, let's move on, huh Seth? I guess it's pretty obvious that this match is between the two of us. And I can't lie, you brought some real intensity to your second promo. Which is great. What you need to understand Seth, is that I wasn't criticizing you to try and bring you down. I was criticizing you because I know what you're capable of, and lately, you just haven't been delivering.
I know you asked "what in the world" I was paying attention to when I said that you haven't picked yourself up from your loss to Xander. Simple. Your first promo this week. It was the ramblings of a man with no focus, a man who showed no drive to go out this Sunday and pick up a win. But I apologize for overlooking your recent victories, against the likes of Ricky Johnson and Joe Everyman. Those epic, career-defining victories. I like how you tried to build up Ricky Johnson's accomplishments to prove to me that beating him really is something special, even though it clearly isn't. Let me tell you something about Ricky Johnson. He's been floating between the midcard and main event since before you even joined this company. And uh.. still no progress. And that's the problem. In your own head, you think you've made more of an impact than you actually have. You're reasoning with yourself, that because you won a couple of matches, it means you're right back in contention to crack the main event.
But like I already told you Seth, you blew your chance at the World Title, and you blew your chance at the lower tier title. So you won a couple of matches after that... what do you want me to do, throw you a f*cking million dollar victory bash? You had two important matches this month - you lost both. So the quicker you let go of the insecurity, the quicker you face up to the fact that you still have a lot more work to do to reach the level you want, the quicker you can actually set about getting there.
I mean on one hand, you're saying that I shouldn't tell you what to do with your career. Which is fair enough, I mean, I'm not here to preach.
We all know who does that better than I ever could.
Hi Kyle! Long time bro!
All I want to do Seth, is give you advice, and a little kick up the ass, so that in future, you make better choices for your own benefit. Because while on one hand, you're saying I've got no right to do that.
On the other hand, you're saying that you're going to be better than not only me, which is one thing, but better than legends like Charlie Velez and Adam Knite. Where you get your ego from, I don't know. But plain and simple, it's not gonna happen. You know the people who will get better than those men? It's people like Verona. People who listen when you give them advice. People who want to improve in every aspect of their game, because their ego doesn't cloud their judgment. Any rising star in this business who claims they're going to be better than Velez and Adam Knite wont, because their attitude obviously stinks.
But the ones who accept their flaws, their limitations.. and just focusing on improving themselves with each passing week?
For them, anything is possible.
Now you don't have to listen to me if you don't want to - after all, like you say, I've never won a world title in my own right. But maybe if you put your guard down for a second, you'd realize that I suffered for the mistakes I made. Do you think it makes me happy to be a 28 year-old cripple with nothing to show for his 10 years in professional wrestling? I made the mistakes you're making Seth - that's how I know that you're making them too! I'm not some Falcon-esque "company man" who goes around attempting to turn his opponents in to model professionals. I'm just a rash and impulsive competitor, who doesn't want to see guys like you throw away their career the same way I did.
I didn't fail to win a world title because I didn't have the ability - I failed because I didn't have the attitude. You say you've followed my career Seth, you say that you've even modeled your style on me. Well please.. please - do yourself a favor.
Learn from my flaws as much as you learn from my strengths.
I don't want to see anybody go through the career I've had. So listen to a man who wishes that he could roll back the years and be in your position. Because if I could, I would choose not to be the Doc that you admired growing up!
And if I had that opportunity.. maybe I'd be standing here today a former World Champion.
But you? You're still a kid. You have that chance to change.
So think wisely before you throw it away, Seth.
Or risk regretting it for the rest of your life.
