3 Years in the making. The rematch that everybody in NCW has eagerly been hoping would happen, the match that was billed, the match that was booked, the match that was good to go until the absolute last second when Alex Jones backed out and wasn’t heard from for months before making his epic return to NCW. 3 years of frustration at not having that match, three years of jokes about how the match of matches never materialized. I can’t say that I didn’t ever dream about how much I wanted this to happen, about how I regretted that it never came to be, but there is just one thing that is bugging me here. There is just one thing about this whole ordeal that I can’t seem to get past.
Why?
What is this about? What is the point here?
Why here? Why after so long?
Come on AJ, we both know how this story is going to end, we both know that you don’t have it in you to stand up against me as an equal. We both know that we’re on two different levels. I’ve waited so long to see you finally take that step, to finally be that person that we’ve all wanted you to be but you just have never done it. I really thought that battle against Jacobsen would have propelled you to the next level, I thought you dominating somebody each and every week like Angel used to do to you would have given you the edge you needed but then you lose to Verona and suddenly there you are in a pool of mediocrity all over again as if you didn’t learn a single thing.
See Alex... despite me and Angel being old friends, I always secretly pulled for you to do a number on him, I always wanted to see you fly past him as you advanced up the ladder, for the simple fact that I like seeing people grow in this company, becoming integrated in our business and climbing their way to the top. It makes for a good story and good stories are always good for ratings, which means as the king of this company, it’s always good for me as well. So you could say I’ve always had a vested interest in your success. It’s just too bad that before you never really adapted to my pushing and wilted in the spotlight.
It seems like yesterday Alex, we were preparing for our big rematch, I had “screwed” you out of being World Champion and you were desperate and blind with rage for revenge. You were ready to do anything it took, you were ready to go to any measure as long as it meant that you would get your hands on me and take my title. Everything was setting up for the biggest match of our careers and possible the biggest match NCW had ever seen. There was so much hype it was almost unreal... and then again... you fell away. I had to go on and destroy Davey Ortega’s hopes and dreams again, and you... you disappeared, left the company that loved you and died out.
I don’t care whatever excuse it was you came up with back then... I know the truth.
You wilted. You couldn’t handle the pressure, you couldn’t take knowing that you weren’t ready for me in any stage of your game.
So is that what this is about? You want to redeem yourself? you want to prove yourself? Is that the very reason why we find ourselves in this pot or is there more to this? Come on I don’t buy any reason about stopping a tyrannical rule because I didn’t see you lifting a ***damn finger when Leonard Fox was in charge. You sat back and let him try and rule people’s lives, you watched as he tried to control every aspect of his wrestlers’ existances. You did nothing, not a single damn thing to bring him down.
See Alex. I’m not buying any excuse like that. I’m not listening to you try and spin this as you being a freedom fighter again. There is nothing to fight against here, there isn’t nothing to be up in arms at unless you thought Leonard Fox was running this company perfectly fine. Which only an imbecile would... and despite anything I’ve said about you or what I’m going to say, I know you aren’t that. I know you’re an intelligent man Alex, that’s exactly why I don’t believe for a second that you actually believe that you’re this valiant fighter of justice.
Lets face it, you just want redemption.
You just finally want that chance to prove that you’re better than me.
After all these years, it’s your chance to show the world that you could have beaten Adam Knite, that you could have been world champion all those years ago if you had not fell flat on your face. You want this because you’re desperate for the chance to finally bring the King to his knees. However, you see.. you might have gotten better, you might have become more determined, but you sure as hell haven’t become a better wrestler. You’re still Alex Jones, you’re still AJ Phoenix, you’re still the same man I fought all those times ago.
You’re a good wrestler.
Not great.
You’re a star.
Not a superstar.
You’re Alex Jones.
Not Adam Knite.
Deal with it.
[Adam responds to the knock on his hotel room door, he swings it open and standing there to his surprise is “Jeremy”, Adam lifts an eyebrow in confusion as he doesn’t understand why he is there.]
Adam: The TV is over there.
Jeremy: I’m not here to steal your stuff, you jackass.
Adam: Why else would you be here?
Jeremy: Miss Ashlie requests your presence for a brunch at Morgans.
[Adam lets out a quick laugh as he shakes his head at Jeremy’s response.]
Adam: Why are you talking like that?
Jeremy: She makes me alright... are you coming or not, -sigh- I mean will you grace her with your presence?
Adam: Alright Jeremy, tell her I’ll be there in a few.
[Jeremy nods as he turns around, looking very overworked and annoyed he heads away from Adam’s room. Adam grabs his phone after closing the door and checks his message where he sees that Kelly still hasn’t responded to his text he sent hours ago. He shrugs his shoulders, grabs his stuff and heads out the door.]
-----
[Adam arrives and sees Ashlie at a small bistro outside sitting at a table with a pair of large sunglasses on as she reads a paper. She lowers the paper and smiles as Adam walks up and takes a seat. The camera pans out and we see former Trauma commentator Simon Daye poking his head around the corner watching Adam with a pair of binoculars. He dodges back around the corner and pulls out his phone.]
Simon: Yeah Kelly? He's with her.....
[Fade to black.]
