To Live Is To Die
Charles Lee sat on his daughter’s couch Saturday and Sunday evenings. He was tuned into NCW’s weekly shows. His eyes glued to the screen, but his heart, mind and soul seemingly paralyzed due to his current situation. After the first couple of matches ended, he sat forward, while Spice sat near him on an easy chair. She was not watching the TV however, instead opting to having her eyes locked onto her IPAD 3. She nearly jumped when at last her father blurted out.
SPF: “I shouldn’t be sitting here, I should be there. At least, I should be backstage banging that Megan Kane chick.”
Spice wrinkled her nose as her eyes glanced up over her IPAD, first looking at the screen and then to her father.
Spice: “Ewww, hasn’t she been with like a bunch of different guys, has at least a half dozen kids?”
Chuck glanced over at his daughter, locking his blue eyes on hers a moment and smirked.
SPF: “Haven’t I been with a bunch of different women, and have at least a half dozen kids?”
Granted, Spice is the only one he kept close watch on, he did have two more with Autumn, Julia and Charles II, two with his second wife, Angel Lynn, and three more with an ex-girlfriend, Julia Arcador. Finally, Spice just shook her head, muttered the word, ‘gross’, obviously at the thought of it and returned to her IPAD 3.
Chuck watched her for another moment before returning his attention to the TV and sitting back in the couch, a little more defeated because he came back to the realization of the day’s events. He was sure that Kelly Knite was going to allow him to compete. He was used to getting his way in federations he worked because he sold tickets and put asses in seats. After watching another ‘Starlets’ match, he turned to Spice again and grinned, obviously having an epiphany.
SPF: “You know, you could always compete in nCw and I could be your manager at ringside.”
Spice’s eyes pulled from her IPAD again and met her fathers, however her expression was opposite of his.
Spice: “And give up my spot in New Japan Pro? Mr. Oh is expecting me back by Friday and I’m moving right into a program with their World Champion. Going to nCw would be a huge demotion. I’d be starting at the bottom again.”
Chuck shook his head and knew he was not going to convince Spice Lee to make such a drastic move. Afterall, she was his own flesh and blood. Being that she was his daughter, he had trained her to allow nothing or no one stand in your way of getting to the top, even family if need be. They might not like it at the time, but they damn sure will respect you. And after letting out a huge sigh, he returned to the TV.
Spice meanwhile glanced back at her IPAD for only a moment, but heard the sigh, saw the way her father was sitting on the couch, almost pouty. She shut off the IPAD and set it on the end table and sat forward.
Spice: “Look dad, I’m sorry. You’re just going to have to get through this. Mom will be around to look after you after I leave. You just need to be more patient. It’s hard, I know. Believe me, I know.”
Chuck rolled his eyes and glanced at Spice a moment, while the Alysson Gardner / Jasmine Barrera match was taking place.
SPF: “Yeah, your mother can stop coming around any time. As much as we have a deep history with having you and raising you. I just don’t have that same sort of feeling that she has anymore. It’s apparently obvious what’s going on here. I’m not an idiot. I get hit in the head and suddenly everyone thinks I’m out of it, but I’m not. I don’t know why I keep failing the stupid concussion tests. I feel great, honestly. But after you leave, I know you said I could stay here for as long as I want. Your mother is driving me crazy. I’m heading back to Houston, I think. Unless of course, I get my way with Kelly and convince her to get back on the road with the company.”
Spice digested every word, while Chuck turned to see the ending of the match and see Alysson win, and before she could respond, he pointed at the TV.
SPF: “Now this one has got some serious potential to be the next champion of the Starlets division.
Spice glanced and giggled. Chuck glanced at her.
SPF: “What’s so funny? She’s really good, I think. Good ring chemistry and smooth in the ring.”
Spice: “Big boobs…Daddy always loved a woman with big boobs. You gotta crush, you gotta crush, you gotta crush.”
The latter said in a sing-song teasing voice, Chuck just shook his head.
SPF: “I don’t know what you are talking about…”
Spice shook her head and got up from her chair.
Spice: “Daddy, I’ll be right back. I need to make a call to Mr. Oh to finalize things for next week.”
And with that, Spice left the room and Chuck sat back on the couch and returned his attention to the TV to watch the rest of Collision.
It only took a couple more segments and matches and he was again aloof. Looking around him, he realized how pathetic his life was getting, and all he could utter as he shut off the TV were five more words.
SPF: “To live is to die.”
