Time. That is all one truly needs to acheive his greatest dreams. It is correct to think that talent, drive and an undeniable will can also help, but when someone is broken, beaten, and down trodden none of that plays a factor. Call it what you want, depression, low self esteem...the Yipps. Only one thing truly heals wounds and mends broken bones. Time. So many people have asked me ''Davey, where have you been and why now?'' Where I have been is a long story, and why now? Now is the time. Now...is the time.
We open to a two story house in a remote part of Louisiana. A taxi approaches the drive way, and the back door swings open. Davey Ortega gets out, looking at the house and smiles
Davey: Finally. That was the longest damn ride of my life.
Davey begins to walk up the drive way but he stops, hearing the complains of the cab drive saying he has't paid him yet. Davey just looks back, smiles, and waves as he continues walking up the drive and too the door. he reaches the front door, draws in a breath and knocks. After a few seconds the door opens. The man is taken back by Davey's presence. A minute passes with awkward silence.
Davey: Nice to see you too, Outcast.
Victor: I haven't been Outcast in years.
Davey: Right, Victor. May I come in?
Victor: What are you doing here Davey? There is nothing here for you.
Davey: Oh but there is...you.
Victor: Me? I have nothing for you. I've no drugs, booze, or money.
Davey: I'm off the drugs, not craving a drink and why would I need money?
Victor gives Davey a curious look
Davey: What?
Victor: Nothing. So what do you want?
Davey: I'm here to get my bearings. I need you to train me.
Victor: Train you? In what? For what?
Davey: I need you to train me in bicycling so I can beat that one ball Armstrong. What do you think...I need you to train me in wrestling. Vic, I want to return to nCw.
Victor: So return...you will just flame out in a week like the last three times.
Davey: No. This time it is different. This time I have my passion back. Victor I am here to learn more then just moves from you. You are a legend in the business. A WCF Hall of Fame member. I can learn more from you then anyone else.
Victor: I'm having a hard time believing you. You lie, you are manipulative. Plus in nCw you are considered a legend.
Davey: No. I'm an original member. A legend is only as grand as his legacy, his accomplishments. Victor you and I both know that my accomplishments have either been overshadowed by my foes, like Lance Ryan and Spike Kane...or they have simply been over looked. I'm here to make sure I'm never consumed by my need to prove my worth. To make sure I know that I can in fact do anything. Outcast...you have defied the odds many times. I'm asking for your help.
Victor: I'm not Ou-
Davey: Well that is who I need. I know you are retired...but are you happy?
Victor looks around, then back at Davey. He steps back inside leaving the door open, motioning Davey to come in.
Davey: You won't regret this.
Two Months Later
Davey is seen sitting on the ground, his eyes closed. He seems to be in a state of meditation, Victor walks up to him and sits beside him.
Victor: How is your mind?
Davey: This isn't working. It's been two months, when am I finally going to be over it?
Victor: Davey these things take time. Trust me if you just bull rush back into nCw with all these rediculous fears you will fail.
Davey: I just can't help but think that my time is over. That I will be lost in the archives of nCw's history. That one guy who almost made it.
Victor: That is why you fail. This is why you are here. David, think of it for once like this. If it wasn't for you, then Lance Ryan would not have gained such popularity. If it wasn't for you Spike Kane would never have gotten his one and only chance. Yes they chashed in on it, and yes sadly enough it was at your expense. Though no one else could of given them the fight, or ignited the fire in them the way you have. You have challenged and created legendary fueds within the nCw universe. Do you remember when you first decided to leave WCF and enter nCw?
Davey: Yeah.
Victor: Why? You could have ridde my coat tails, you could have been a WCF champion. When you told me you were leaving to join this new company I thought you were the stupidist man alive.
Davey gives Victor a look
Victor: I did. So why did you?
Davey: Because I did not want to live in your shadow, because I wanted to stand on my own two feet and tell the world that I am here, that Davey Ortega has arrived.
Victor: And you did. You fought through the competition to face Lance Ryan at the first Road to the Gold. Yes you lost, but that is not the story that was left in the ring that night. The both of you bled, the both of you left your sweat and tears that night. I am one hundred per cent convinced that Lance Ryan would not have enjoyed that night if it was someone else he was facing. You told the world that night you had arrived and that you are a cornerstone in nCw. That night was not your time. Though Davey Ortega has stood the test of time.
Davey: Will it ever be my time?
Victor: I think you being here and asking that question is step towards finding it. Now breath deep, clear your mind. The only true enemy is within and you have a lot of demons you must face.
Davey and Victor both take in a deep breath, then sigh as they seem to meditate.
3 months later
We open to Victor standing at the edge of a swamp, looking on as Davey is splashing in the water.
Davey: This is insane!
Victor: Gator wrestling is a time honored tradition down here. It builds strength, endurance and stamina. No no no stay on top.
Bubbles come up from beneath as a gator is kicking his feet in the air as Davey holds it while underwater. A few seconds pass and Davey is able to roll back, catching much needed air
Victor: No, don't stop to take your breath!
Davey: Wha-
Before Davey can finish he is in a fierce tussle with the Aligator. The gator eventually is able to break free, and Davey barely gets to the shore, he stands on his two feet walks about a foot towards Victor then collapses.
Victor: Didn't you do any training while you were gone?
Davey: I hate you.
Victor: Take a few minutes, compose yourself then hop back in the swamp.
Davey looks at Victor as if he is insane.
Victor: Training...
Davey: ...Hate
One month later
We open in a hospital room with Davey, his forarm is heavily bandaged and Victor walks into the room, with a wheel chair.
Victor: They said they wanted you to leave in this.
Davey: It's my arm thats mangled, not my legs.
Victor: Your arm is not mangled.
Davey: A damn gator bit me!
Victor: Your fault. I told you to grab his jaw and give him a stiff elbow. Not give him an elbow while his jaw is open.
Davey: Whatever. I'm going to have a scar for life.
Victor looks at him, then walks up to him and grabs his shirt yanking it off him
Davey: Hey...what the hell?
Victor: Look at all those scars.
Victor places a hand on his shoulder and pushes him down showing his back. Scared and torn
Victor: Bet you remember...
Davey: Yes. I remember. I didn't need a reminder.
Victor: I think you do. Scars will never heal, not even time can erase the marks of the body. Tell me.
Davey: Tell you what?
Victor: How did you get them?
Davey: You know how.
Victor: Humor me.
Davey looks down, a solemn look comes over him.
Davey: Dragons Den. Spike Kane sent me through a flaming table.
Victor: What else?
Davey: I lost. Now these scars serve as a reminder.
Victor: Of?
Davey: My failure.
Victor: No. They are a testament yes, but to your failure? No. This is a statement. You bravely entered the dreaded Dragons Den confidently. You fought the man who invented and broght the Dragons Den to nCw to the breaking point. It took Spike kane driving you through a flaming table to keep you down. You have undergone punishment and still you perserver. Your back is nothing more than a message. Yes, you have been beaten and broken. But still...
Davey: I get up...I fight.
Victor: And why?
Davey: Because I'm Davey Ortega.
Davey looks at Victor, and they bot share a smile.
Two Months ater
We open to Davey standing in Victors back yard. Victor comes into the scene with two kendo sticks.
Victor: Now, my specialty.
Victor tosses a Kendo stick to the ground, and Davey picks it up
Davey: We don't do much sword fighting. I'm aware you have been out of the game for a few years now...
Victor smiles, then without warning cracks Davey in the face with the Kendo stick. davey falls to the ground, writheing in pain.
Victor: Hardcore matches...or as they are in nCw Xtreme.
Davey: I know how to fight an Xtreme match, I'm a former champion in that division.
Victor: Pitifully. Everyone knows Davey Ortega can take punishment, but giving it out. Well that is something I have yet to see from you.
Davey gets up, looking at Victor
Davey: I have taken people out before.
Victor: When they were not aware. Davey I know you are an oppertunist and that is good. Though face to face with someone whos goal is to hurt you...thats a whole different ball game entirely. Now...attack me.
Davey smiles and swings his Kendo stick, missing Victor as he dodges it with ease. Davey swings wildly, missing Victor as he moves and dodges.
Victor: Anytime you are ready.
Davey stops, and tosses his Kendo stick to the ground. He motions for Victor to attack him. Victor obliges, only to miss as Davey ducks then punches him in the groin. Victor doubles over in pain dropping his Kendo stick. Davey picks it up and begins to beat the hell out of Victor.
Two Hours Later
We are back in the hospital, this time Victor has his face and ribs bandaged, as he turns to Davey.
Davey: Sorry.
The night before Soverign 2012
The scene opens back at Victors house. They are both seen standing at the shore of the swamp where Davey was bit by the Alligator. Davey feels his forearm where a scar is.
Davey: I can't believe it.
Victor: What?
Davey: I'm here. I'm right at the threshhold of my big night. My return to nCw is less that twenty four hours away. You have taught me so much. I feel...better. I feel great. Probably in the best shape I have been in years. Mentally I am sharp and emotionaly I am calm. I'm ready.
Victor: Good. Your opponent seems dead set on beating you. He wants to have a turn around. He wants to use you to better himself.
Davey: Thats Joe. Joe Everyman. My opponent, my adversary at Soverign. He has somehting to prove. To be hoest that is sad.
Victor: Don't you have something to prove?
Davey: No. I have something to redeem. I must redeem myself and in order to do that I must never back down. I can not allow my past to convelude my future. From this point on it is a fresh start. I have nothing to prove because my matches, my fueds speak volumes about me. Joeseph must prove that he belongs. He isn't even upset that he wasn't chosen for the Coliseum match. Almost like he expected it. A man like that is used to mediocrity, to settling. Well I can't do that. When I started out in nCw I had one goal in mind, one achievment that I had to have.
Victor: The nCw title.
Davey: Domination. This is not about titles. My return is not about championships and unfinished business. It is me, David Allen Ortega returning to the place that he belongs too. At the top. I am here for the only reason I came here in the first place. I want to be known as the greatest wrestler to ever grace nCw. Joe Everyman already considers me a legend but my legacy is not complete. I will not stop until everyone considers me the best.
Joe, I know you are watching I know you can hear this and yes. Yes you are right. I took away your first nCw title, and I cost you your shot at solidifying yourself as one of the greats in this company. To be honest when I denied you that title, when I practically handed Lance Ryan the nCw championship I loved it. There is no way someone like you will ever rise above me. When I took away your Xtreme title I felt right. I know in my heart that you can never beat me. You will never outshine me. You spoke about a turn around, that this is your big chance to show the world that Joe Everyman can do the unthinkable. That he can take on the best known, and stand toe to toe. I'm sorry but that is simply not the case. You are the perpetual mid carder. The filler. The go to guy for mid card events. I would say it is not your fault but I will not say such a blatant lie.
So here we are. Two men who have a history of choking when it comes to doing something worth while. Well no more. No more will I run from my past. I know I have failed in my time, but I have shown the world what I am capable of despite that. The fact of the matter is I am Davey Ortega. Joe...
There is Spike Kane
Lance Ryan
Trent Helms
There is the rest of the roster...
