{Our scene opens with Will Washington in the gym, punching away at the heavy bag while Rocky Kingman holds it in place. The sound of knuckles cracking against the bag fills the gym as he fires away with shot after shot, occasionally bringing a knee up to strike. After a few moments of this, Will stops his attack and grabs a water bottle off of the floor, taking a swig. He tosses the bottle down and wipes his face with a towel. He walks over and sits down on a weight bench, catching his breath.}
Rocky: “You better slow down man. You don’t want to blow yourself up before the big match.”
Will: “I feel like you tell me that all the time, even though you know I don’t listen to you.”
Rocky: “There’s no harm in trying. I’m just looking out for you.”
Will: “I know, but come on. I can’t waste a minute getting ready for this match, and all of the wedding stuff is limiting my time to train as-is.”
Rocky: “It’s just Andrew Jacobsen. You’ve beaten him before. It’s not like he’s something special.”
Will: “I know, but the kid isn’t going to go down easily. He has a lot to fight for, in case you forgot.”
Rocky: “Nah man. I saw what you did last week at the hospital. That was some cold blooded stuff. Even by your standards.”
Will: “Ha. Just a little game of one-upmanship. Nothing too serious.”
Rocky: “Now I know you don’t believe that. This isn’t a game to Andrew. It’s pretty heavy life-altering business.”
Will: “You have to admit though… I’ve finally given the kid a reason. He was just coasting into nothingness before I came back. Without me he’d probably be wrestling Markus Reeves on Wired instead of being in one of the featured matches on the card.”
Rocky: “True.”
Will: “Whether he knows it or not, I’m helping him exactly how I set out to do in the first place. I’ve raised his profile to a level he’s never reached. Even the blind can see that, and yet he’s oblivious.”
Rocky: “He’s set in his ways and he’ll never change. Some people can adapt, some can’t. Andrew’s the latter. Chances are he’ll go the way of the dodo bird.”
Will: “I just don’t get it. What kind of guy resists any and all change? Why is he so satisfied with his current situation? He’s basically a younger Joe Everyman.”
Rocky: “Still… The guy can wrestle.”
Will: “Yeah. And that’s why I have to get some more training in before Sunday. So enough talking, and more punching”
{Before things can begin again, Will’s iPhone starts to ring, and he walks over and grabs it, looking at the contact information. He lets Rocky know that he has to take the call, and steps away to answer the call.}
Will (on the phone): “I’m glad you decided to call. I wasn’t sure you would.”
{He waits while the person on the other end responds. His demeanor changes ever so slightly.}
Will (on the phone): “I understand that. I know this whole thing has turned your life upside down, and I honestly want to apologize to you for that. You were collateral damage, and you didn’t deserve to be put through this.”
{Again, he listens to the person on the other end to finish.}
Will (on the phone): “I really just wanted to let you know how sorry I am, and let you know that I want to make things right again for you. I know it’s not the perfect situation, but I think everything can work out for the better if we play it right and work things out.”
{The conversation seems to be getting deeper involved, and Will steps outside to avoid any listening ears as we fade.}

“I’m just counting down the hours now AJ. Sure we’ve both had matches with more on the line in our careers, but have we ever actually had one bigger than this? Well I certainly have, but this is like your Super Bowl. I wrestled for the World Championship at A Night To Remember, so this is nothing for me, but I have to believe that this one means a little more to you. It’s your chance to shut me up and put me out of your life forever. It’s your shot to prove to the entire world that you’re something special in this business, and I’m nothing more than a liar. Beating me is going to be a big deal for you, but for me? It’s going to be just another Sunday.”
“… Sunday. Bloody Sunday.”
““It’s not about wins and losses between us anymore. Heck… don’t get me wrong… I want to win this match, but the fact of the matter is… I win no matter what happens. If I make Jacobsen tap out, then I was right all along and he’ll never be good enough to beat me. If he wins, then he’ll have had to have went to where he said he’d never go. He’s really painted himself into a corner where the only way he can truly win this war is to kill me… and if Iraq couldn’t do that, why would anybody believe Andrew freakin’ Jacobsen could? Nobody.“
“You’re going out there with everything to prove, and I’ve got absolutely nothing to gain. You actually have shown a bit more aggressiveness by going toe to toe with me, but we all know that after Sunday, it’s back to being brooding little punk that you’ve always been? Or… that’s how it would be if you had any choice in the matter. If it’s up to you, things will never change, AJ. So I guess it’s up to me to finally bring the change that you can believe in.”
“I mean… That’s all I’ve really been trying to do this whole time. I wanted to be your guiding light, but instead you insist on following the ways of the so-called ‘good guy’, never realizing that you’re actually becoming a parody of yourself. You’re so obsessed with staying on the right side of peoples’ opinions and getting vengeance for what I’ve done to you, that you’re starting to get the feeling of some half-assed comic book character. You so desperately want to spill my blood in retaliation for everything I’ve put you and your family through, that you’re blinded to the fact that you’re slowly falling deeper and deeper into the hole I’ve dug for you. Each time you try to respond to something I’ve done to you, you slip further into the quicksand… and try as hard as you might, there’s no way you can dig yourself out of it.”
“… and soon the darkness will engulf you entirely.”
“That’s the greatest irony of it all AJ! You’re so focused on revenge and trying to avoid becoming what I am, that you don’t even seem to notice that you’re worse than I’ll ever be. You attacked me at Sovereign for trying to help you earlier in the night… you tried to attack me in the parking lot for what I did to your brother… and you attacked me at the hospital because I got the best of you in the parking lot! Everything you do is driven by revenge. Even the most minor instances like booting you in the groin at Crossroads has caused you to plunge deeper into a dark place you had hoped you’d never reach… and all I have to do is watch as you slowly self destruct. But there is a silver lining…”
“… Andrew Jacobsen as we know him will soon cease to exist… and in his place? We’ll find a brand new man. One that doesn’t crave the approval of the fans and management so much. I can look into your eyes and tell that you’re standing on the brink of insanity… and this Sunday will be that final push that sends you completely over the edge.”
“… Don’t fear it. Accept it.”

{Will steps back into the picture as he finally finishes up his phone conversation.}
Will (on the phone): “I can’t wait. I think things are finally going to get settled for good… I’ll see you Sunday…. Thanks.”
{Will ends the call and smiles to himself. Rocky looks over and sees the grinning NCW star and questions him.}
Rocky: “What’s that all about?”
Will: “Just a business call. Getting some things taken care of.”
Rocky: “Anything Kristen should know about?”
Will: “She doesn’t have to know everything I do. Some things I’d like to keep to myself.”
Rocky: “That’s cool, but you should never let her hear you say that. It’s a quick way to find yourself sleeping on the couch.”
Will: “Good point.”
{Will starts to unwrap the tape from around his hands.}
Rocky: “Didn’t you want to get some more training in? You know Jacobsen is probably working his butt off right now, getting ready for your match.”
Will: “You know… I’m not that worried about it any more. I’ve got all the intangibles and skill I could want… and you better believe I’ve got a few tricks left up my sleeve.”
Rocky: “Well that’s certainly ominous…”
Will: “Everyone should know what to expect from me by now. It’s not like I’m hiding my true nature or anything.”
Rocky: “So I guess you’ve got the win this Sunday in the bag? No need to worry or wonder about the outcome?”
Will: “Wins and losses don’t matter. It’s about writing our legacies in NCW…”
Rocky: “And just what do you want your legacy to be?”
Will: “Everlasting. Come Sunday, Andrew Jacobsen and the entire wrestling world will remember my name and what I’ve done… no matter how hard they try to forget.”
{Will takes another drink of water and smirks to himself as we fade out for the final time.}

“Your whole purpose is to get me to repent for my sins and leave you alone once and for all, but I’ll never apologize for anything I’ve done. It all serves it’s purpose in the grand scheme of things… to drive you closer and closer to what you swore you’d never become, which despite what you may think, isn’t me. I don’t want you to be anything like me, AJ…. As a matter of fact, you couldn’t be me even if you wanted to.”
“… You don’t have the balls to be Will Washington.”
“That might sound cocky and delusional, but it’s the god’s honest truth. Nobody in this business can go through what I’ve been through and still be the son of a bitch that I am today. It takes a set to do what I do, and that’s something you’ll ever be able to do. So no matter how much you say you’ll never be like me… you’re right. You don’t have what it takes to be me. As screwed up as this match and this feud leave you, it’s nothing compared to what I am. The fact that you even consider it a possibility is insulting to me. But I’ll give you a pass on it… I’ve done worse to you.”
“Maybe beating down your brother in front of his wife and daughter wasn’t the nicest thing to do. Maybe cheap shotting you after a match and attacking you in a parking lot wasn’t something to be proud of. It’s possible that everything I’ve done makes me look like a scumbag in the eyes of the world, but I’m okay with that. I have the guts to do what needs to be done to bring about real progression in this world, and you’re content with being just mediocre. Say what you will about me, but before I came along, nobody cared about Andrew Jacobsen… and when I leave? They’ll forget you even existed… again.”
“… The status quo.”
“So your fate is in our hands, Andrew. It’s your cross to bear. The blood of your brother is on your hands because of your failures as a man. Your shortcomings have left Rick in a hospital… and while I may have had a part in that and you’ll undoubtedly blame me for any permanent damage he may have suffered, in your heart of hearts you realize that there’s more you could have done. This whole thing never had to start in the first place, but because it did, Rick shows the physical scars, and Molly gets the emotional ones. And you? Whatever you do now is too late. You had your chances and you stood by and let the world crumble around you. Your eyes may be open now, but it will be too dark for it to even matter anymore.”
“… I’ll hurt you, AJ. Just like I hurt Rick… just like I hurt Molly…. Just like I hurt Cassandra. The emotions you feel may seem like they’ll destroy you, but rest assured it will be my hands who ultimately befell you. The pain you feel when you look in the eyes of your brother and niece is nothing compared to the physical and inhumane beating that awaits you when you look in mine.”
“Everything ends this Sunday. Our feuding ways… my torment of you… the constant wondering of when I’m going to strike you next… and your quest to be some sort of virtuous hero. I’ll leave you a broken man, not unlike your brother. No one will ever look at you or Rick the same way ever again. Why? Because emotionally you’ll be just like your brother….”
“… crippled.”
“You say that you‘ll never quit, but I‘ll expose you for the liar that you are. All it takes is your hand hitting the ground three times, and everything you‘ve worked for will be for naught. Beating you at Crossroads was the opening act. Breaking Rick’s ribs was act number two. Breaking your spirit? Well that’s our grand finale. And you better believe I’ve saved the best for last. ”
“Welcome to my world, AJ. Welcome to the darkness, North Star.”
Rocky: “You better slow down man. You don’t want to blow yourself up before the big match.”
Will: “I feel like you tell me that all the time, even though you know I don’t listen to you.”
