"There is a difference between you and me. We both looked into the abyss, but when it looked back at us... you blinked."
-Batman, Crisis on Two Earths.
-Batman, Crisis on Two Earths.
It all seems...surreal at this point. Like it's some kind of storybook ending coming to life right in front of me.
Everyone has played their part. Everything is just right. And now, the final act is upon us.
Fitting.
It's the word that best describes this situation Helms. Everything about this is...fitting. It just makes so much sense.
Actually, there is one thing that does not fit.
You. Trent Helms.
I mean, it fits perfectly that Kelly would be so desperate to keep this championship belt that she would choose you. It makes fits that you would leech of that fact and get yourself a new contract. It fits that she would turn to the last guy to beat me and take a title from me.
But here's the thing Helms...
You don't deserve to be here.
Yeah, I said it. Because it's the damn truth and you know it. Everyone knows it. Without a true contender to this title, you, like the maggots and worms, have crawled through the woodwork and bam! you're number one contender.
Tell me again Helms, about how much you deserve this. Tell me all the hard work you put in. I'm begging to hear the justification.
Are you still talking about your whopping 50% success rate against Hall of Famers in your question to bring it down? You got your ass kicked by Lance, you got your ass kicked by Adam, you beat Dave Holland by count out and you beat Falcon with a roll up. Steve Awesome, Spike Kane...you didn't even bother. Or rather, they didn't bother with you.
And why was that Helms? Because you let yourself become a joke.
It's why I laughed at your threats a few weeks ago to...what was it?....stop kidding around. You expect anybody to take it seriously that you, all of a sudden, out of the clear blue sky, are better than everyone? Like you've been holding back this whole time, just waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike?
Well, this IS the perfect opportunity to strike, but at this point, you aren't worthy Helms.
Understand this: there is no "S" on your chest. You aren't Superman, and you can never be Superman. It doesn't matter how much you pretend, what you wear, or how you act. It's about action.
And your actions are petty and pathetic at best.
A 50% success rate in destroying the Hall of Fame...
A sad, 14-day National title run...
and prior to that...
Nothing.
For all your hatred, and arrogance, you have next to nothing to show for your efforts Helms. Nothing but being a parasite and leeching your way into big time matches. It's what you do. Constantly bringing your own name up for a world title match, trying to be part of things bigger than you just to make it seem like your really a part of it. The reality is, you never have been. But I guess that all changes now, doesn't it.
Now you've got everything you want, don't you? A big time contract. A title match at a pay-per-view.
Neither of which you deserve by the way.
And now...you HAVE to come through. You have to win. Kelly is betting the farm that you Trent Helms can back up everything you've been saying. That you are as good as you think. Everybody can talk about it Helms. You have to back it up.
Otherwise...you fail again, and prove me, and everyone else right.
You have all the pressure. Just like Verona did. He failed. Not for lack of trying, but it just wasn't his time. One day it will be.
Can you say the same Helms? Oh wait, you already are.
Don't think I haven't heard. Walking around telling everyone within earshot that you are going to be the World Champion come Sunday. Is that a fact Helms? Is it written in the stars or on the moon? Did your girlfriend tell you that? Or is it just in your imagination along with everything else?
I got news for you Helms, I don't deal in fairy tales, I deal in facts, and the fact is, at the end of Picture Perfect, you're going to be a loser, and you may just end up crying...like a little bitch.
Giving you the heads up now so you can get a leg up on kissing Kelly's ass for you next title match.
Ricky - Well?
Roxi - What?
Ricky - How does it feel to be out of the house?
Roxi - Pretty nice, actually.
Ricky - How have they been?
Roxi - They're pretty good, all things considered. Chloe like to protect Logan.
Ricky - Really?
Roxi - Yeah.
Ricky - Gonna have to toughen that boy up.
Roxi - It's cute.
Ricky - That's one word for it.
Roxi - Can we just enjoy a day out without the kids, please?
Ricky - Let's see a movie.
Roxi - What about mini-golf.
Ricky - Mini-golf?
Roxi - Mini-golf....mega-fun.
Ricky - That....was awful.
Roxi - You love it.
Ricky - Well, there's one thing I have to look forward to after retirement, your terrible jokes.
Roxi - You could have to endure Helm's bad jokes for eternity.
Ricky - Good point.
Roxi - See, it's not all bad.
Ricky - If only I could get the storybook ending.
Roxi - It doesn't always end that way. You could get the Captain America ending. Get shot by a sniper.
Ricky -....Thanks for the vote of confidence.
Roxi - Anytime.
I know you'd like to think that you've got my number Helms. I know to you, Kelly picking you made all the sense in the world.
I guess she's eager to give people chances to take this belt from me. She gave Roberto half a dozen and now, it's your turn. Correct me if I'm wrong Helms, but didn't you get beat, right in the middle of the ring at Reborn? Didn't Velez pin you? And before that..Adam beat you. It's like Deja vu. People are down on their luck or on losing streaks, and then, all of a sudden, Kelly gives them 5-6 chances and they come through and look out, suddenly they're world beaters.
Now Helms, you have puffed out your chest, walking around in your big-boy pants and trying to act like you own this place.
You own nothing.
Aside from a less than impressive track record, a terrible hairstyle, and an overactive imagination.
You're only good trait is you have impressive timing. I mean, you conveniently need a new contract when Kelly needs a savior. Low and behold, you get everything at a discount Helms. 2 for 1 as it were.
But let's be honest here, Do you really want this world title so you can play hero and toe the company line like a good little soldier? I said a while ago that that isn't you Helms. Remember when you wanted to see Ricky Johnson vs. Joe Everyman headline a pay-per-view? Why not now Helms? Why not be the team player you think you are and step aside for Joe? Or anyone for that matter. Why not advocate for the little guy now?
Because, it was all a ruse. A smokescreen to hide your agenda.
No, now that Trent Helms can slither with way into a title match, and get what he wants, screw the little guy, right Helms? Because it's about you. Everything is about you, right? So, in all honesty Helms, because it wasn't YOU monoplizing the main event, you were for the little guy. But when you get a shot...all that goes out the window.
Now, I don't want to take what I just went over as not wanting to face you. Because I do. I want to get you in the ring very much Helms. Like I said, it's fitting that it's you who faces me. Fitting that you are the last hope for Kelly. The hero role, just what you always wanted.
I just find it incredibly humorous that someone as two-faced as you, someone as conniving as you, can sit there with a straight-face and say what you say.
I'm at the top, and I was looking for a fight. Alex Jones, Todd Williams, Xander, Adam Knite, Falcon, Spike, Lex... I just wanted somebody. Doesn't matter who. Line 'em up and I'll face 'em. 2 guys, 3 guys, whatever. But instead of any of those guys, who actually would make it worth it....I get you.
To think, going out against Trent Helms would be...should be...a great thing. But it's just...not right now. It very simply boils down to you being a henchman for Kelly. Something you USED to be better than. But now, it fits you like a glove.
This is what your legacy will be Helms.
Think about that. Not the guy who entertained all of us, not the guy with the outrageous promos, just the guy who ended up being a parasite and got wouldn't let the money train leave without him every chance he got.
It's amazing how far you've fallen.
Ricky - Well...that was dumb...
Roxi - Why did we just do that?
Ricky - Who leaves notes in a locker anymore?
Roxi - Remind me to punch Simon in the back of the head next time I see him.
Ricky - Will do.
Roxi - Is it going to be like this all the time now?
Ricky - Like what?
Roxi - Are all these guys your friends now, they all want you to be their friends...
Ricky - I don't think so. I mean, There's a radio show here or there, and maybe appearing for the company somewhere down the road. But, trust me...I'll be home with you and the kids.
Roxi - Most of the time, anyway.
Ricky - Hey, It's the life, you know that.
Roxi - I know, it's what I'm afraid of.
Ricky - I promised you I'd be home. I stand by that.
Roxi - Really, a promise? Last time...
Ricky - Wasn't my fault. Don't start.
Roxi - You brought it up.
Ricky - Well let's just...drop it.
Roxi - Let me see that note.
Ricky - Here.
Roxi - ...Did he really ask if you were a bad enough dude to save -
Ricky - The "Presidant" yes.
Roxi - Wow.
{Ricky's cell phone goes off.}
Ricky - Hello?
Roxi - Who is it?
Ricky - Gib?
Roxi - Gib?
Ricky - What?....uh...yeah, I guess....
Roxi - Why is Gib calling you?
Ricky - He wants to talk with me...a "man on man" conversation.
Roxi - You mean Man TO man, right?
Ricky - I know what he said.
Roxi - Leave me out of that one then.
So this is what is comes down to Helms.
You and me, world title match. Biggest match of YOUR career.
Funny, isn't it?
I would say it's an honor to go out wrestling you, but from where I stand, it's not. It should be, but it's not. Because of who you are and what you stand for.
At least Todd Williams let the belt go to his head AFTER he won it.
At least Steve Awesome knew who he was.
I can...at least somewhat...respect people like that.
But you...you're a different story.
You know the last person who made me feel like you do was? Jimmy Zane.
Yeah, I just compared you to Jimmy Zane, because it fits. Both you and him are a lot alike. Two guys who underachieved, yet expected things to be handed to them. Two guys who could almost literally achieve anything and yet didn't. And then complained about it.
You're evolution matches his, Helms.
Let's face the facts, you want to be where I am, just like he did. You want to see me fail, just like he did. the reasons are completely different, but really all the same. Because I have become what you envisioned you would be...Just like him.
And when it came down to nut-cutting time, Jimmy Zane couldn't hack it, and he walked out. Will you do the same Helms? I know you've thought about it. While I leave of my own free will, with people unhappy about it, if you leave...will anybody remember? Or will you be a tarnished spot like Jimmy Zane became?
The choice is up to you Helms.
You can change everyone's perception of you Sunday.
You can be the man people respect, the man who people can look up to. You can be the entertainer, the wild man, the out of this world superstar.
You can be all that.
As a matter of fact, I WANT you to be that Helms. You have the power to change back to that.
What you don't have the power to change is what the outcome of the match will be Sunday. Because you may be out of this world, you may be one of the most talented wrestlers in the world...
But you are not better than me.
And on Sunday, I write the final chapter in my career: beating Trent Helms and retaining the NCW World championship.
And that's the TRUTH.
