(This is part two my weekend blog thing. I don't care if anyone reads it, just want to get it off my chest and let people read it here because I doubt anyone reads my blog.)
So we leave Sunday morning and make the drive back towards Des Monies but instead of going into the city. We're going south to a small blip on the map. Milo, Iowa. Really small place. So we get to the venue. Looks great. Could easily hold 500 people if APW gets big which would be great. All three of us get there, shake some hands with a few people. We find our seats way early because we get choice. I love it. Anyways, Tyler gets in the ring before the show to dick around a bit as he's had some training in the business. Fun stuff to watch. Brian Gott and Troy did a fun as **** thing just doing WWE Finishers for about five minutes. Hilarious.
Show time. Out comes Jeremy Jacobs. Really nice guy from the bit I got to talk to him/hear him talk. He gets on the mic and says that sometimes things happen in professional wrestling that are unplanned. Team Ambition will not be here tonight. I look over at Tyler and the first thing I said was I am not surprised. For a long time I thought Davey Richards was an asshole. Just seemed the type. People tell me oh no he's so great to meet with for an autograph. You can put on a fake smile and act so nice to the people that paid to see you kick people and no sell for twenty ***damn minutes.
So with four matches or so off of the card they do a fantastic job of shuffling things around to give us the most entertainment. I had the most fun watching that show on Sunday. I'm not just saying that because of the bull**** but it was how I felt before I learned about what all went down before the show and during the show. Team Lariat entertains against I think Jeff and Abu. Really fun stuff. A great Tag Title match that was thrown together at the last second with the Homeless Express of Brian Gott and Shawn against Ryan Kidd and Maliaki Matthews, though I probably messed up the spelling. A good Heavyweight Title three way between Tony Cortez, Supafli and Gunner. Main event of Cornell and Strife was great. I'm sure I missed a match and I apologize. Everyone on that card did a great job.
After the main event Strife calls for the microphone. I know what he's going to do. He's going to shoot.
Yes that fat ass sitting on the upper right hand corner of the screen is me. So after Strife is done and they leave the ring no one is moving. We're all looking around like what the hell do we do now. Someone goes should we slow clap now? It gets taken a step further by chanting APW repeatedly. Everyone from the back comes into the ring. Jeremy looks like he's trying to keep his emotions in check. This is what passionate people about the ****ing sport of professional wrestling do. They get into that ring when their fans, the people who support them by cheering or by booing them every single show they go every single event that they hold.
I was proud to be there in that moment. I was proud to be standing on my cheer chanting for that company. I was proud to support men who get paid maybe twenty bucks a show. I will continue to be proud to cheer for men and women in this state who get paid and do their work. What I will not support are men who try to bully a booker into changing a match. I will not stand for four men robbing someone who tried to make it work.
I have read Kyle O'Reilly's side of the story. Even with his views they still look like giant assholes who got their panties in a wad because they felt disrespected. You were paid to work. If you felt disrespected then just leave without taking someone's money. If it was a crowd issue we would've been vocal. I know who three of you were because I follow the indy scene pretty well. What I didn't know is how low and petty you people are. Just because you've worked a few iPPVs its alright to rip off a small promotion? Just because you thought it was funny to openly admit that you ripped off someone that you're awesome.
There is no justification for what Team Ambition did. I know they'll continue to get booked by other promotions. The sad reality is that despite what we do here in Iowa to try to keep people like them from getting money, having people think that they're ****ing awesome when they're ripping off small promotions, it will not matter. It disgusts me to know that people around the world will continue to revere Davey Richards for his "wrestling" ability. It disgusts me to know that people approve of Tony Kozina's actions. At least with Kyle O'Reilly he openly admitted to what they did.
He tried to present his side of this. I applaud him for having the balls to do it when his two trainers. Davey deleted his twitter. He's done **** with his facebook. Maybe he is leaving the professional wrestling business but if you are this isn't how you want to do it. You always want to leave on good terms if you can. With this shoot interview that Davey has coming out with Highspots it seems like he is burying everyone he possibly can. Why? So you can train people down in St. Louis to do what you do best?
Be a giant ****ing bully, a disrespectful prick, and an overrated professional wrestler. I would rather get trained by a person no one outside of the state of Iowa and a few really hardcore Indy fans know of. They would teach me the proper respect about professional wrestling. And to that guy from the KP radio show last night get the hell over whatever happened in your promotion. What happened over the weekend was more important than a personal vendetta against Strife.
This whole issue is bigger than the guys who worked APW on Sunday. The men who lost out on the chance to wrestle something that is hot in the professional wrestling business. If Derek Cornell went out there and had an epic match with Davey Richards that might've opened the door for him. Even the supposed tag match that was going to happen with Strife and Cornell against Richards and O'Reilly would've looked great for more bookings. Instead they ****ed over the guys in the back, they screwed over the fans, and I think more importantly they ****ed over the business that they claim to respect.
Team Ambition knows nothing of respect. I would rather be in a nobody for the rest of my life. A guy who loves wrestling and loves to write instead of a unprofessional wrestler looking out for only himself and no one else. I will support and retweet anything about this situation from any Iowa professional wrestler. From anyone over in the Cali branch of Magnum Pro. I will support Ryan Kidd from this moment on because he was good for being how young he is. I will support the people that you pissed on for your own ****ing selfish egos because I respect professional wrestling.
This is respect. Something no one from Team Ambition has a clue about.
Peace.
