The pieces are perfectly falling into place.
Just like a puzzle you’ve spent hours beyond hours trying to solve, I’m finally seeing the final picture, and I absolutely love what I’m seeing it.
When I reveal it to the world…well, I just can’t wait.
I’m like a kid, waiting for the toy store to open just so I can run around and grab anything I want…
Because that’s what New Championship Wrestling will be to me.
A toy store.
“That sounds…intense, Charlie.”
Mike Laszlo, a piece to the puzzle.
“Intense is too soft of a word, Mr. Laszlo. But you do understand what’s being proposed here, right?”
“Yeah, I get it. But I don’t know, I’ve watched you for a while…I’ve seen the stuff you’ve done. You’re not exactly the most trustworthy person this company has to offer.”
“Of course I’m not, Mike. You shouldn’t trust me. But when you’re working for a company that has thrown down their stars and left them for dead, I look like the most honest person in the world.”
“If you have a beef with Kelly and the like, why do you need me?”
“I don’t necessarily need you, Mr. Laszlo…”
We stop walking. He stares at me, still hesitant to listen to me.
“I just see unlimited potential you possess, and I see how this company continues to hold you down, how Mike Laszlo is stuck wrestling psychopaths in tag team matches…when you should be main eventing, holding championships. How Mike Lazlo’s face should be on the banner of this company. Look at this as an opportunity, Mr. Laszlo. An opportunity for everything you want…”
He grins at me; I don’t blame him, the thought of being on the top wets anybody’s appetite, even if it means making deals with the devil.
“When do you need an answer by?”
“Whenever you’re ready to give me one. I’m a patient man, Mr. Laszlo but I warn you…if you make me wait for something I don’t want to hear, you won’t be happy.”
Laszlo just smiles at me. He’s confident, cocky, but he’s good.
Really good.
I don’t think any threat I can make would sway his decision.
I give him a nod, and I walk off. I hear my music being played in the background; my match is about ready to start. I’ve prepared well for my opponent, I just hope he’s prepared for me…
“There’s a storm coming, isn’t there Charlie?”
I don’t acknowledge Laszlo directly. I walk towards the curtain, slightly turning my head at him, a grin on my face.
He sees it. I know he does.
I mu
mble under my breath…
“Batten down the hatches…”
“An idea.
That’s all it really takes for something spectacular to really happen.
Whatever it is; an invention of sorts, or a revolution, all it takes is an idea from one individual and it starts things. It puts things in motion, and what happens from the idea…well, it could be something spectacular.
But it just takes a special man to come up with this idea.
No…no, it can’t just be a normal man. A normal man can come up with an idea, but he can be stopped, he can be locked up, and they can throw away the key and that idea might never come to fruition. No…it has to be somebody who’s much more than a man, a man who devotes himself to this ideal, and that makes him unstoppable. He must become something else entirely…
A legend.
A legend is somebody who walks into that ring every week and puts on a show; a legend is somebody who walks in the locker room and everybody around them just stops and looks, and for that one second, they know that they’re looking at somebody who helped redefine their sport. A legend…a legend is somebody that I am, Mr. Kingsley.
Oh, I named dropped, didn’t I?
I know you don’t know much about my past, you only know bits and pieces. That’s scary, Stephen. Not for me of course…but if you don’t know much about who you’re facing, how will you know how to attack them? How will you know what they’re weak points are, and what it’s going to take to take them down? You don’t Stephen…so let me tell you a bit about me.
I have a few screws in my neck, thanks to my best friend who tried to kill me a few years ago. I shattered both my knees in my very first match in my wrestling career. There’s your two weak points right there, my neck and my knees. I have a little trouble seeing out of my left eye; it has something to do with all the shots to the head I took when I was young. I have this finisher, it’s called ‘Closure’, and it can come out of nowhere, mostly I set it up when your back is turned, so don’t even have your back turned when you’re in the ring with me because once you turn around…
Bam. Match is over.
Why am I telling you this, Mr. Kingsley? Because I want a fair match.
And if I didn’t tell you these things
Well, it’d just be a massacre out there.
I’m not a crocodile, Mr. Kingsley. You can hunt them down all you want, you can know all their moves and at the right moment strike and be done with your kill, but no…I’m something stronger, something much more dangerous.
I’m a legend.
And this Sunday at New Dawn I don’t want you to be thinking about Tag Team Championship opportunities, I want you to look at me across the ring and realize that this is something you’ve never seen before.
And realize that you’re in a fire, and there’s nothing you can do because…
The Fire Rises.”
A hard fought match, I can’t deny.
Ace put up a challenge, and even had the guts to attack me after the match.
He’s brave, I admit…
But at this moment I have bigger fish to fry.
