The thick fog makes it nearly impossible to see. Try and it might, the sun is unable to vanquish the sea of gray. Walking towards the camera, we see the silhouette of what appears to be man. As he gets closer, the familiar black priest robe emerges from the fog. Although the hood of the robe covers the man's face, it is obvious that it can only be one man... “Godly” Ken Davison.
His slow, methodical gait makes him seem almost ethereal, as though he is not of this world. His measured steps reek of confidence. He carries himself with an air of arrogance. It would seem that not much has changed since Battle Grounds.
Davison stops, still surrounded by the mist. He is close enough to the camera now that he can be seen clearly. He lowers his hood, revealing his face.
”The fact that Curtis D. Kanyon is now the X Champion is not a setback. In fact, it has opened the door to my future. So, I walk upon the Road to the Gold with only one certainty... Stephen Kingsley.”
“Now Kingsley, he's a big old bastard, isn't he? At six foot eight and three hundred and fifteen pounds, his physical advantages cannot be ignored. But as I have proven, such advantages mean nothing to me. Certainly, Kanyon had those very same advantages, and even then, not to the degree that you do, Kingsley, and he was able to do what no one else in NCW had been able to do up to that point. He beat me in a one on one match. I'll be Kendamned if I let you do the same thing Kanyon did. Curtis is a former World Heavyweight Champion. What accolades have you managed to win while here in NCW?”
Davison puts his hand up to his ear. In the absence of his voice, the sound of crickets fills the air.
”Exactly. And I didn't have to steal the X Championship from Mike Laszlo, while you had to gain possession of the Tag Team Championship Belt through subterfuge. Men like Mike Laszlo, men like Curtis D. Kanyon and men like myself, we earn what we take.”
Davison's breath hangs in the air a moment before disappearing in front of him. Davison lets out an audible sigh before continuing on.
”Now, whether or not the fact that your boy Cyrus is laid up is a good thing or not is strictly dependent on if you can defeat me or not. Think about it, if you can knock off the former X Champion, it would do wonders for your career, and without Cyrus there, you can take all the credit. Of course, if you lose, it will show just how much you rely on him to carry you to what little success you've garnered thus far.”
“For you to assume that I had a bad night at Battle Grounds because I lost my match and my championship shows that you are as ignorant as the rest of the idiots in the locker room. While my waist may be about fifteen pounds lighter, it has once again ignited my competitive spirit. Being thrown into seemingly random tag team matches, quite franky, it bored me. When I went up against Laszlo, I was hungry. By the time that Kanyon came across me, I had grown complacent. That is no one's fault but my own.”
“The fact that I have survived the Pawn Shop match means nothing in the long run. Granted, I have a few nagging injuries from that match. Ask Laszlo and he is probably dealing with the very same issues. A match like that changes you. Losing my X Championship has done nothing to set back my career. As I said, I think that I will benefit from that match than you could ever realize.”
Davison smiles wide, his face both amused and feral at the same time.
”But do you what my biggest issue is with you, Kingsley?” Davison pauses like he is waiting for a response. ”You do nothing that stands out. You are nothing more than a walking cliché. “I have never backed down from a challenge.” Really? That's the best you can come up with? You don't become a part of this business if you aren't fearless.”
“And did I actually here you claim that you hunted crocodiles? Holy dog crap. Steve Irwin is going to rise up from the grave and sue your ass for gimmick infringement. Let me assure you of something, chucklehead. I am far more dangerous than any croc that you've encountered. Men like you have to fight and struggle in order to make it in this business. Meanwhile, I am blessed with nature born talent. I am the crown jewel of NCW. When I started here, they made sure that I opened each and every show because they wanted their opening contest, if you can call it that, to be something the crowd was into. They couldn't get that by booking you, or The Ace or Joe Everyman. Once they realized what a commodity that they had on their hands, they started moving me closer and closer to the main event because they knew that the audience would stay tuned in to see what I would do to close out the show. A man like you, who is just another face in the crowd, could never do that. Why would I want to be like you? I mean, why fit in when you were born to stand out?”
“So the question remains, Kingsley. “How far will I go?” The answer to that, sir, is quite simple. I will go as far as I have to. I am a firm believer in the ends justifying the means. Did you miss what I did to Laszlo? Did you miss what I endured to defeat him? I don't care if your tag team partner is laid up. Truth be told, that just means that you will have company if I should decide to put you in there with him. To you, this is a match that can make or break your career. To me, it's just another Saturday. Have your women to have the orderlies make sure that other bed is ready. You're going to need it.”
Davison chuckles to himself as he stands in the middle of the fog, slowly stepping backwards until he fades back into the mist.”
