Where one door closes…
..another door opens.
First off, let me congratulate Mr. Roberto Verona on winning this past Sunday on Collision and advancing to the “Rising Star” Finals against Lex Sense. You did what you had to do and you finally got that elusive victory over me.
There’s no shame in losing to Berto, he’s one hell of a competitor. At the same time, our World Champion, Andy Jacobsen, don’t think for one second that me being eliminated from the Road to the Gold Tourney keeps you safe. All it does is prolong the inevitable. I will get my shot at you and when I do, you better be ready.
Now though I need to focus on the match at hand. This SATURDAY, haven’t said that in a while…I team with Davey Ortega to take on the likes of Alex Jones and Ken Davison. Now what I’m kind of saddened by is the fact that Ortega came out himself and said that he does not trust me. Why oh why wouldn’t I be a trustable person?
I’ve done no wrong by him, and the only person in NCW who can claim that I’m a crappy partner is Jason Evans because after I teamed with him…I beat his brains in.
Maybe Ortega looked at my Wikipedia page?
I’ve had plenty of partners in the past, and yet the only one I haven’t “cheated” on; the only one who I haven’t turned my back on…is my wife. I won’t lie to you Ortega…you shouldn’t trust me. I admit it…I use people. I use them to get what I want and once they become useless to me, I kick them to the curb. It’s the way the world works. I can’t help it that the strong survive and a strong team can have no weak links. If I sense a weak link…I cut that link off my chain. So I guess…in closing…you shouldn’t become the weak link.
Now on to the other side of the ring this Saturday. Alex Jones. My partner says you were once the face of this company. There’s a problem there. Alex, in this company, this business, this world, the question is: “What have you done for me lately?” The answer for you Alex…NOTHING!
Sure you’ve defeated me the couple times we’ve faced off, and you’ve won with me the few times we’ve teamed together. Now you can sit there and butter up to me by saying it will be an honor to face me, but to be blunt…it won’t be an honor facing you. It’ll just be another day at the office. It will be me walking into another arena, walking down the same entrance ramp that I’ve walked down for the last year, stepping between those ropes, and proving to the world that I am better than the man, or in this case, men, who stand across from me. It might be an honor for you to face the only man in NCW history to hold two titles simultaneously, but for me…it’s just another obstacle to overcome.
And then there’s the Godly one himself, Ken Davison. The man who at Picture Perfect, ended my X-Title reign and claimed to be better than me. He told the world that he was going to surpass my record of consecutive days the X-Title was held…a record that stood two years before I nearly doubled it. Then what happens?
He loses the title to Curtis D. Kanyon at Battlegrounds.
Objective failed!
Title lost!
And now what?
Ken, what happens now? You team with Alex Jones and try to win the Tag Titles? You ride someone else’s coat tails to a championship like you rode my name to stardom for two months only to drift back out of anyone’s mind after I moved on to bigger and better things?
Yes we were both in the Road to the Gold, and yes we were both eliminated from the competition, hence us being in this loser’s bracket tag title contendership tournament. The difference between the two of us Ken is simple. After the Pawn Shop Match, you went on to be ordinary. Simply defending the title when NCW brass deemed it needed to be. You didn’t try to excel. You became content. You got your vindication against the big bad Mike Laszlo from years back and now it seemed there was nothing left for you to do. What did I do?
I set my sights on a new target. I went after our World Champion verbally to the point where he came out to my first round match to react. I GOT HIS ATTENTION! I DID SOMETHING!
You?
You sat there content with just being X-Champion. I wanted more, and as I mentioned earlier, just because I was eliminated from the Road to the Gold Tournament, does not mean that I’m going to sit here wallow in self-pity.
Who knows? Maybe now that I’m in this “Road to the Tag Team Gold” tournament, I can carry my team to the Tag Team Titles here in NCW. Then, when I meet Andy for that World Title…or whoever has it when my time comes…I can be the second man to hold two titles simultaneously in NCW history.

Title: Good Enough (Valet Anyone?)
Location: Mike’s Gym, Cleveland, Ohio
Time: 11:12 AM Eastern Standard Time
For a few weeks now, my PR girl, let’s just call her my assistant shall we, has been training to become a professional wrestler. Let me be the first to tell you that she’s a quick learner, and has come far in her short time training. So as a reward, I feel as if she has earned her right to appear on television. After talking to some NCW higher ups, it was determined that although she is still raw in skill, she does have talent. It was then that I obtained permission to give her the opportunity of a lifetime.
She thought she was coming in to train on this cold, rather windy day. The temperature was in the mid-forties and you could see your breath in the air in front of your face. That’s why I was sitting inside in my office. I was going over some financial paperwork when I heard a knock at my door.
Looking up I saw Alexis through the glass door and motioned her in. As she entered, she greeted me.
Alexis Caffrey: Hey. Ashley said you wanted to see me?
Mike Laszlo: I did. I have some exciting news.
Alexis Caffrey: (Sitting up on the edge of her seat as she had slumped back for only a matter of seconds.) What is it?
Mike Laszlo: (Leaning forward in my own chair, folding my hands together on my desk.) I talked to some of the NCW Executives.
You could see her anticipation building with each of my spoken words.
Alexis Caffrey: Yeah? And?
Mike Laszlo: Hold on their. Keep your pants on. Or don’t whatever.
Alexis Caffrey: (With a playful, flirtatious smile.) Miiiiike! Come on!
Mike Laszlo: So I had a conversation about bringing you in. I told them that I had been watching you the last few weeks. I told them that you had the thirst of knowledge and the “want” to get it. The “want” to understand the wrestling business. I told them that I wanted to take you to the next logical step in your training.
Alexis Caffrey: Do I get to wrestle?
I held out my hands to settle her down as she seemed like she was about to jump out of the chair in excitement.
Mike Laszlo: Not quite. You’re a quick learner, but as far as skill set goes, you’re still very raw.
I saw her excitement level go pretty far down after being at what seemed to be an all-time high. She was still listening but that certain glistening on her face was no longer apparent. It made me feel slightly bad inside, but I was about to hopefully cheer her up.
Mike Laszlo: Don’t look so down though.
Alexis Caffrey: Why not? I wanted to wrestle and they’re telling me I can’t yet.
Mike Laszlo: Well, you can’t just go in there half-cocked. You need to perfect your skills so that nobody gets hurt by accident. A lot can go wrong between those ropes and I’ve seen people die inside that ring.
Alexis Caffrey: But…
Mike Laszlo: Wait, hold on. There’s no “buts”, they said no on that front and that’s final…for now. HOWEVER…they did agree with me on the next step in your training.
I could tell she was upset. If the tone of voice wasn’t a big clue, the long angry sigh was another.
Alexis Caffrey: What did the “oh so great minds” come up with?
I was becoming a bit fed up with her attitude, and it was time to let her know it.
Mike Laszlo: Cut the crap. I understand you’re upset, but they have good reasoning for their decision. Now if you don’t want this still pretty good news, then just go train.
She sat there in her chair, somewhat astonished at what I had just said. I had never gone off on her before, and I did kind of just snap at her…deservedly so though. She sits forward in her chair and takes a deep breath, sensing that I was starting to get frustrated.
Alexis Caffrey: I’m sorry Mike. Go on.
Mike Laszlo: Alright then. The next step in your training is live experience.
She tilted her head slightly to the side letting me know that she was confused before vocally expressing such emotion.
Alexis Caffrey: Huh? How do I get live experience without actually getting in the ring?
Mike Laszlo: Simple, by watching it firsthand.
She was still confused and to be honest, it was kind of funny.
Alexis Caffrey: What the hell are you talking about?
Mike Laszlo: I’m talking about standing behind that curtain with me. I’m talking about feeling that rush as the music hits and the crowd roars with either cheers or boos, sometimes both, then walking out to that ring and watching me do what I do better than anyone else on the face of this or any other planet. You’re going to be my valet…should you so choose that is.
Alexis Caffrey: You mean come down to the ring with you and stand outside looking pretty?
Mike Laszlo: Among other things. Interested?
Alexis Caffrey: Heck yeah!
She said the previous statement with such enthusiasm that she jumped up from the chair in another fit of excitement. Again I hold out my hands and calm her down to the point where she takes back the seat in her chair.
Mike Laszlo: It all starts this Saturday on Trauma. I have a big tag team match and you’re coming down to the ring with me. Get packing…we leave tonight.
She takes off like a bat out of hell from my office and runs across the gym to the door before making her way out. I was glad to be able to turn things around. Sitting back slowly in my chair, I clasp my hands together behind my head with a smile on my face.
====================
Would it be nice to become Tag Team Champion?
Yes!
Does it matter who my partner is?
No!
Does it matter who I have to defeat?
No!
Will I accomplish this goal of mine?
If I have anything to say about it…you’re damn right I will.
So as Alex Jones feels honored to be in this match, and Ken sits at home with his lady friend, sulking at his lost opportunity to surpass me, and even my own partner wonders whether or not he can trust me, I’ll be eyeing bigger and better things.
First, win the Road To The Gold Tag Tournament.

Third, become World Champion and by doing so make NCW history once again.
The wrestling world was put on notice a week ago.

It seems that now, everybody is listening. NOW, I have everyone’s attention. So now, it’s show time.
Davey Ortega, know this and know it now. As an individual, you can’t trust me. What you can trust however is the fact that I am a competitor first. All ego aside, I set out each and every day to be the best wrestler on this roster. So when push comes to shove Saturday night, know that I am in it for the betterment of the team. I am in it…for the win. We will advance if I have anything to say about it.
Ken, Alex, sorry about your luck. You’re in the wrong place at the wrong time, and fate couldn’t have put you in a worse situation. So when you two lose this Saturday, know that you were beaten by the better men. Then, when the two of you are eliminated from THIS tournament as well, you can go back to doing what you two do best, being irrelevant.
And in closing, Andrew, I saw what you had to say, “Anytime! Any place!” and trust me when I tell you, your time will come and it may just be sooner than you think!
Change is coming boys and girls, and I am it’s harbinger.
..another door opens.
