Xavier is in his home away from home, nCw headquarters. Standing in front of the nCw banner. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath.
"Here we go... Breaking Away, nCw PPV, a big stage and look where I stand. Me, CDK, Stephen Kingley, and Dexter Davis, all men in the last few weeks, I got to know real well. I stood across from these men on many different occasions. And this time, the pot is a little bit sweeter...
A little extra incentive.”
Xavier makes the motion across his waist
“Gold.
The thing that so many strive for, what they fight for, why they even bother lacing up their boots every week. To one day, fight for gold. While this one isn't the big belt... it's an important one, one with a lot of history behind it.
The X Title.
A title born from the legacy of the X-Division Championship, a belt the represented the best athelets in nCw. Reresented guys who love this place, love nCw, love going out there and entertaining the fans. And I guess I was the last of that breed.
When I put that belt on my mantle, that chapter was closed. Not the chapter about the best athelets... you see nCw has always been about that, if you can't hang with the best.. then you get snuffed out quickly. You don't last long, you are left standing around in the locker room, with your hands in your pockets, wondering, 'What happened?'
What happened was... time passed you by. Opportunity. It's why we are here. I hear it, and I never really fed into it. I know my legacy is written in these halls, it's written in that belt... it's hard to ignore it, but I never chased it. I never went after it, because I know where my legacy ended in the X-Division, all those matches are done, you want to see that again, buy the DVD. And I guess that gets me to the man holding that gold, Dexter Davis.
Dex... you're a good kid. I can't hate on you for that... great woman, who comes from a good family. And you have your life in some order. For so long, I've seen athletes... let me rephrase that, I've seen black athletes, resort to stereotypes. They are the 'gang banger', the 'baller', the 'mad at the world black guy', Guys who fall into molds, fall into boxes. I see you, I see what you've done, see how you portray yourself...
And I can't hate it, there is nothing to hate. I see a guy with a good head on his shoulders, and I have no problem seeing him take the mantle on the X title and making it his bitch. You see... I know that position is taken by someone more capable than me, I don't have to worry about it.
But...
I can't let you off. I respect you, I respect all the men in this match, that is who I am... I know that any day, any night, you might bit the big one and you are the one staring at the lights, you are the one, slapping the mat. And there is not a more humbling feeling... then talking all this junk, acting like the biggest asshole. Thinking you are the hottest piece of property in the world, then when it is time to stand up, when it is time to put the money on the line... they come up short... or to steal a line from the great Stephen A. Smith
“Come up shorter than Mini-Me”
And once you do that... it's hard to come back from that. It's hard to save face after laying an egg that big. That is why I don't say much.. I don't waste time in front of this camera. I speak my piece... and then I'm gone.
It's just a lesson I learned while growing up, growing up in this business. Had no choice to learn those lessons the hardway, had to take my lumps.
So what does this have to do with this match?
Stephen Kingley, CDK, Curtis, DDK... whatever you are calling yourself this hour. I guess you guys fall into that category. Kingley, it seems like everytime we stand across the ring from each other, it always, comes hot off the heels of you sticking your foot.. SO DEEP in you mouth, I am surprised you can even walk.
And it's not even done in any.. clever way.
It's the easy jokes, it';s the one my son would say to his classmates or something, if you're gonna make an ass of yourself, at least be creative. I don't know man, throw on some blackface, paints your lips red, and where the gloves and top hat and just start tap-dancing, start using the word, “Jiggaboo” bring back some old school ignorance, because that is better than the little hints and nudges... it's not clever, it's not funny... it's corny, it's lazy, 'it's the easy joke to make, because I dont have an original bone in my body' excuse.
It's hard to not just look at you as a joke after all that, you had chances to earn some respect, chances to build up some rep.. and you just **** it all up, **** it all up in some grand ways too..how you even made it to this match shocks the hell out of me... but then again, since you are fighting TWO black guys, maybe this week, it's TWO watermelons, or TWO pitchers of grape Kool-Aid, or TWO buckets of chicken... maybe that is gonna be the game changing curve ball this week... the thing that finally breaks the walls down... and then people start proclaiming the Stephen Kingsley is the future of the business..
Or... you just come off looking like a big douchebag, then me and Dexter take turns in trying to trigger early onset Alzheimer. While there might a good chance of the first thing happening... I wouldn't put any money on that happening for you kid.
But then again, what do I know?
And that leaves me to, Curtis... CDK... DDK... Thor's... something... Kanyon. We've done this before. We've had this dance. I feel like everything I could say to you, has been said. What new ground is there left for me to tread on?
Not much to feed off on, I know what you can do... I know you cn snap me in seconds, I know that you can be a real dangerous man, when provoked, when focused. I know when Kanyon is in that zone... he's unstoppable. But I haven't seen it yet.”
Xavier shrugs
“For the last few times, I've been wary of that side of you... I've been looking out for that destructive power of Curtis Kanyon. And it seems like the goofy side keeps coming out... I'm not complaining, makes it an easier night for me, but while you are out running around in this fantasy land, the reality of what is really going on, is just passing you by...
You've downgraded from a legit threat..to, kind of a joke. And I don't like doing that, I don't like downplaying competition, but I have to call it like I see it, I know you can do it, and I know you can trick a person into taking you lightly... then it just makes for an easy target for you to smash them into pieces. I know that threat it looming.
But... I'm not afraid of it. I've taken you best shots... and I stood tall. And I was the one to land the sot to put you down. I can toss aside last week, because you were teamed with an even BIGGER joke, so I am not gonna put stock into it. But trust me, when that bell rings, I am gonna keep my eyes on you, I am gonna make sure that you don't catch me sleeping. I know the potential is there, and while I haven't seen it.. I still have to stay up on my game.
I guess looking at this match, it's a mixed bag, a guy I have the most respect for, one guy who I don't care for much, and I guy... who I still can't put my finger on. All fighting for the X title. Maybe it isn't the ideal match I had in mind, but I got to play the cards I was dealt... and it's time to get myself ready.
It's a title match, it is a chance to represent, the thing I prided myself on, and that is proving that you are the best athlete, showing your competitors that respect, that honor, the spirit of competition in wrestling that is kinda lost.
For the past few weeks, I said I was going to refocus myself, show that I am not gonna rest of what I've done, that I am going to show that I am more than just a dude collecting the checks. And this match, is a chance to prove that. A holding the X Title, while it's ground that I have traveled, I wouldn't mind craving a new one, with a new belt and a new legacy. A chance to show that in crunch time, Xavier can come up big. I know not many people say that..., but I have to prove it to myself, I have to hold myself to that level... because if I don't believe in me..
Then who will?”
Xavier looks back at the banner, the slaps his hand against it
“nCw... Breaking Away... X Title match, “Black Jesus” walks... Dexter, Kingsley, Kanyon are gonna fall, and Xavier adds another trophy to the wall”
Xavier turns and walks away from in front of the camera and we fade to black as the camera focuses on the nCw banner.
