It is a rainy night in Little Rock, Arkansas as Seth Drabble is seen looking out a window staring into the night. He looks like he’s been crying a bit and is in the process of wiping away a few tears. A knock is heard at the door as Chuck Watson walks in with a handful of tapes in his hands as Seth turns to look at him. Chuck lays the tapes down in a chair and walks over to Seth.
Chuck Watson- Hey, almost a week now…how are you handling things?
Seth Drabble- I don’t understand how so many people can hate him, I mean, I can understand it….he was pretty selfish and inconsiderate. And why does he care if I talk to The Punisher or Johnny Craven? I don’t need them for anything; I can make it perfectly on my own!
Chuck Watson- Is that how you feel?
Seth Drabble- I’m sorry Chuck, I didn’t mean…
Chuck Watson- I understand you are upset so there is no need to apologize. Boone would want me to look after you either way. Whether you want me to be your manager or you don’t want me at ringside, I’m going to be here for you anyways.
Seth Drabble- Thanks, I’ve never lost somebody like this in my life and especially somebody so close to me. Somebody that was like another father to me, gosh, it hurts so bad.
Seth pauses again and lowers his head as he begins to sob a bit more as Chuck places his arm around him and pats him on the shoulder.
Chuck Watson- Come on, lets calm down a little here and sit down and watch some videos of your opponents for the pay per view.
Seth Drabble- Videos of my opponents?
Seth walks over to the chair and picks up a video and is looking at it with a frustrated look on his face. He slams the video down and then flips the chair over and kicks it across the room!
Seth Drabble- Watching videos isn’t going to make me a better wrestler! That’s what Uncle Dave wanted me to know….wrestling isn’t about watching the matches of your opponents…it is about who you are! I shouldn’t have to watch videos of my opponents, and I shouldn’t have to trash talk either! I should go out there and worry about myself and how I handle my business and not how my opponents react to me. Chuck, to get to the top in this business…you’ve got to better yourself as a person and yourself physically and stop worrying about other people. I’m going to go out there Sunday night and win this fatal 4 way elimination match for the fans, for my family, and more importantly for me! I deserve to be in this position with or without Uncle Dave and I’m going to prove it starting Sunday night! Jason, Shaun, and Joe just picked a bad week to face me and they are in for a treat.
Chuck Watson- Alright, calm down we’ve got an interview here in a couple of hours. You want to grab a bite to eat first?
Seth Drabble- I think I want to go for a walk first and I’ll meet you at the house.
Chuck Watson- This will be your first off-show interview with Chad Lights and I want you to be totally relaxed and free of thought when you do it. It’ll make it a bit easier on you than it will be. He’s going to ask you questions that you will feel uncomfortable answering.
Seth Drabble- I think I can handle it, and thanks. See you at the house.
Chuck pats Seth on the back and then leaves as Seth grabs a hooded sweat shirt and takes off outside in the rain. It has let up considerably though as Seth begins to walk.
==An hour later==
Seth is seen standing on top of the Arkansas River Bridge looking down seeing the water flow rapidly through the current. He just stares at it and begins to speak out loud to himself.
Seth Drabble- I just don’t get it..I don’t understand..why do things have to be this way? It doesn’t make any sense to me anymore….it is all over..nothing is left!
Seth climbs up on the railing and is just standing there as the wind slightly blows his sandy colored hair. He’s staring down into the river that is flowing very rapidly below his feet. He looks up into the air and takes in a deep breath of air and then releases it and looks back down, but is startled as an old man walks up beside him.
Old Man- Hey, you don’t have to do that.
Seth Drabble- How could you possibly understand what I’ve gone through the past week old man?
Old Man- It is very beautiful isn’t it? A river is a lot like life….
Seth Drabble- Excuse me?
Old Man- Some rivers are long and deep, others are short and shallow. Long and shallow as well as short and deep, rivers of all kinds exist. You’ve got good things in the rivers as well as bad things.
Seth Drabble- What are you talking about?
Old Man- Get down and I’ll show you.
Seth looks around and then hops off the bridge and lands back on the pavement. The man reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out a very clean looking rock. Seth looks confused.
Seth Drabble- There are many rocks in rivers sir.
Old Man- But not this one, my mother gave me this rock when we went to the river. I was 5 years old, and this would be the very last thing my mom would leave me. I’ve held onto it ever since then, and I’m 75 now. Cherish the good things in the river, but learn from the bad things.
Seth Drabble- What bad things?
The old man smiles and then lifts up his pants leg and shows a snake bite mark on his leg.
Old Man- Water moccasin bit me when I was 33, I came close to dying out here if it weren’t for my wife. She was a nurse and knew exactly what to do and saved my life. I learned a lot from this bite and a lot about my wife…but she’s gone now.
Seth holds his head down in sorrow as the old man continues on with his story.
Old Man- I’m terribly sorry for your loss and I can say that I know exactly how you feel. Like I said before, rivers are a lot like life. You’ve got a beginning and you’ve got an end. You’ve got places of smooth riding, and then you’ve got rough rapids that slam you around like you are going through right now. Currents that are smooth and brisk, and currents that are rough and tough, but it all continues down the path and will eventually get smooth again.
Seth Drabble- I understand now, but why must there be an end? Why can’t a river run forever?
Old Man- Young one, there is always an end to that in which has a beginning. There must be! Some end sooner than others, others like the Nile last for miles and miles and miles. But, the beginning and the ends are not what is important…even in these times you are facing right now. It was what happened between the two that is the most important.
Seth Drabble- Right now, the ending is what I hate the most though.
Old Man- Oh no, think about it more closely. Take this Arkansas River for example, it ends in the much larger Mississippi River….which runs down into the Gulf of Mexico….which connects to the Atlantic Ocean….which connects to the other oceans of the entire world and makes up 75% of our world we live in today. The ending should be the most loved because you’ve got the opportunity to be a part of something much more special than what you’ve endured prior. Do you understand now?
Seth is still putting it all together as he looks out across the river again and smiles. He turns around to the old man and extends his hand.
Seth Drabble- Thank you, I understand perfectly now. You couldn’t have made things more clearly for me. I believe I can handle things a lot better after that. We leave this earth and become a part of something much bigger than us and much better than earth. Doesn’t matter where you begin and where you end, but it is about how you get there.
Old Man- Exactly, and I’ll tell you from experience that one day you’ll wake up and realize when it is time to let go of what you’ve lost and realize they are better off and you will see them again.
Seth Drabble- How is that?
The old man reaches back into his jacket and pulls out that rock he shows Seth earlier and leans over the bridge and drops it off the side as they watch is splash into the water. The old man looks at Seth and smiles.
Seth Drabble- Your mother gave that to you! You should cherish the good things!
Old Man- Awww, but I did! I’m able to hold on to her memories and cherish those and let go of the material things. And look, I placed it back into the river…more good is now placed into this river than before.
Seth smiles and then hugs the old man for a moment as they let go and Seth looks at his watch.
Seth Drabble- Oh, I’ve got to get to an interview. How will I ever thank you enough for helping me?
Old Man- WIN!
Seth smiles and shakes his head yes and turns away. He then stops and looks confused again and then turns back, but the man has vanished and is no where to be seen. Seth looks over the bridge, but sees nothing. No sign of a splash or anything, but he has learned a lot from today. The rain begins to pick up a bit more now as Seth is in a jog as he prepares for his big interview with Chad Lights.
==Another hour later==
The scene is now on Seth Drabble and Chad Lights sitting in a studio. Seth fixes his tie as the cameras are ready to roll. Chuck pats Seth on the shoulder and points to the side letting him know that’s where he’ll be at if he needs him. Seth smiles as Chuck walks away and they begin to start the interview.
Chad Lights- I’m Chad Lights, and my special guest today is Seth Drabble. One of nCw’s bright and up and coming young superstars, Seth, I want to thank you for being here today. I know it must be very tough for you to do this.
Seth Drabble- Thanks Chad, yes, it has been a very tough week for all of us.
Chad Lights- Obviously you don’t have to answer this next question if you do not want to. How will you be able to cope with the loss of your uncle and manager?
Seth looks around and then at Chuck and takes in a very deep breath and answers the question.
Seth Drabble- Uncle Dave always said when faced with adverse situations that I need to step up to the plate and prove I’m a real man. He had a great life journey and one that I can say I’m very proud of, and he did help me out a lot. I’ve learned a number of things from him and I’m still learning from him today. The best thing I think I can do is never forget the good things he’s done for me and always cherish the good memories. The bad, I learn from and use to my advantage later on in my life when similar situations happen to me. Despite what people have said, my uncle was loved by MANY and we will all grieve for a very long time to come. Whatever evil things people accuse him of doing do not out weigh all the great things he’s done for people. He’s literally brought people into the business that are not related to him like I am and have helped them to the top of this business. I really believe it if weren’t for my uncle, wrestling wouldn’t be where it is today and it wouldn’t be so hot right now. He may have been very controversial, but he brought ratings and that’s a major thing in this business. So, lets hold on to the great memories we have of him and learn from the negative things.
Chad Lights- Very well said, and I’m personally proud of you for the way you’ve handled yourself this past week. Your future in the nCw, where does it go?
Seth Drabble- Obviously this Sunday it goes into St. Louis, Missouri. I face three people in an elimination match and I’m sure we will do our best to make this the match of the night. I know that my uncle would want me to go out there and give it everything I’ve got. Win or lose, if I can walk away from this match and no that I’ve given it everything I’ve got in me then I’ve already won. Jason, Joe, and Shaun are all very tough competitors and I know we will give the people a great show and that’s what it is really about with me. I’m all about the fans and giving them the best possibly entertainment that I can. Eventually, I would like a National title shot…but I wouldn’t expect anything any time soon. I feel strongly that I could beat Jack Manson or Spike Kane and become the youngest nCw champion in its history.
Chad Lights- Where do you get your motivation and inspiration now that Davey Boone is gone? It must really be tough to find it…
Seth Drabble- Actually, no it isn’t tough at all. I get it through the fans, through my family and friends, through myself, and I still get it through my uncle as well. Just because he’s not here physically doesn’t mean he’s not here spiritually. I know when I go to that ring Sunday night; he’ll be standing at ringside alongside my manager Chuck Watson. Motivation will always be there for me to get better each week and make my adjustments as I see fit against my opponents where I need to. I’ve got to stay focused on my opponents from week to week and just see what happens. I’m a hard worker, very dedicated, and looking to make a positive difference and with all of these things and solid guidance then I know I’ll be successful. Like I said, win or lose a match..I walk away and know I did everything I could then I’m a winner.
Chad Lights- If you have one piece of advice to give people that have or are going through similar things that you’ve gone through this week, what would it be?
Seth Drabble takes in another deep breath and then continues right along.
Seth Drabble- The most important thing about life is the journey. The beginning isn’t that important and neither is the end, but it all matters on how you get to your destination. Don’t forget the good things and learn from everything you possibly can. Cherish every moment you have with your family and friends because you never know when it might be your last moment, or theirs. Never give up and never quit, always pull through because eventually you are going to get through it anyways. Adversity will face us all each day in some form or fashion, handling it is the key and moving forward no matter how long it may take.
Chad Lights- Thanks again Seth and good luck to you Sunday night! Seth Drabble everyone and we will see you all Sunday night in St. Louis, Missouri at Mind Games!
The cameras cut as Seth gets up and shakes hands with Chad and then hugs Chuck. The scene fades on them embracing. This will be something the young Seth Drabble will have to deal with the rest of his life, but with his friends and family around to support him; I think he’ll make it just fine.
