DATE: December 30 (Sydney Knight’s birthday)
[We open up at the hotel where Sydney, her father, and Simon are currently staying after this week’s Collision. The scene in particular opens in the hall where Sydney stands in front of the door to her boyfriend and father’s room. She gently pushes on the door, which is unlocked and walks into the room silently. Simon lays on the bed with his arms crossed behind his head watching Television and her father is nowhere to be found. Sydney makes sure to lock the door as she silently closes it behind her, which apparently wasn’t quite enough as Simon looks up at her in surprise.]
Simon: Hey birthday girl...
Sydney: Hey...
[Sydney slowly walks towards the bed as Simon sits up and looks at her as she nervously fidgets about with her hands, the hem of her shirt and anything else there is nearby.]
Sydney: I think my dad is going to be out for a couple of hours. He’s with Xander...
Simon: oh?
[Sydney walks to the edge of the bed, she gives a half hearted smile at her boyfriend before she steps up onto the bed and sits above Simon’s legs on her knees. She leans forward and the young couple begin to kiss gently for a couple of minutes before Sydney pulls away and begins to pull her shirt over her head, but is stopped surprisingly by Simon.]
Simon: Wait... are you sure you want to do this?
Sydney: Yeah...
[She turns her head to the side and refuses to look at him as she says this. Simon instantly knows by this reaction that something is up and takes her by the chin, forcing her to look at him.]
Simon: Hey, what’s wrong?
Sydney: Nothing ok. It’s my birthday, I’m allowed to get what I want. Right?
Simon: Yeah but this... I just want to make sure that you’re ready....
Sydney: Why wouldn’t I be?
[Sydney puts her hands down and slides them up into Simon’s shirt, she digs her nails into his chest as she attempts to look at him seductively before she leans in and tries to go back to kissing. However Simon pulls back and sits up against the head board and stares at her sad expression.]
Simon: Come on, what’s bothering you?
Sydney: It’s just... Kelly... everything I had to put on the line just to....
Simon: Don’t worry about it, you know you can beat her. You’ve done it before, you...
Sydney: I KNOW. It’s just... I feel like I’m betraying myself. Like I shouldn’t be putting this on the line, it’s sacred to me, you don’t put up things that are sacred to you... everybody knows that and yet here I am.... is it worth it?
[Sydney begins tearing up as she sits on top of her boyfriend, he reaches forward and puts his hand on her cheek but she turns her head to the side to avoid eye contact with him. He puts his hand on her other cheek and pulls her head back to where she’s facing him an then wipes away a tear from her face with his index finger.]
Sydney: I just want to...
Simon: Not think about it, anything to take your mind off of it.?
Sydney: *nods her head*
[Simon looks hurt at that.]
Sydney: I’m sorry.
Simon: It’s cool... at least you came to me... hey, lets think of something else. It’s your birthday it’s not time for being sad.
Sydney: *she nods her head*
Simon: Oh hey, that’s right. I had a gift I wanted to give you in private, away from everybody at your party earlier.
[Sydney gets up and sits on the side of the bed as Simon rolls over and pulls the night stand drawer open. He pulls out a small black box. On closer inspection it’s clearly a ring box and Sydney’s eyes go wide in surprise. Simon extend the box with the small bow on it forward and Sydney just stares at his hand in disbelief of this gift.]
Sydney: Si... Simon. Um. This is kinda the opposite of taking things slow. I thought I told you, after what happened with Rob I don’t want to...
Simon: Wait what? NO! NO! This isn’t an engagement ring.
Sydney: OH!
[Sydney’s face turns red as she blushes and seems very embarrassed at her little outburst, Simon however just smiles and laughs it off. He extends his arms and encourages her to take the box. Sydney smiles and grabs it and opens it up and inside is a small white gold ring with a little heart on top made of gold and small diamonds with a twist deisgn coming from it making the band. She grins at it and looks back at him.]
Simon: The guy at the shop told me it was a “promise ring”.... I didn’t know what the hell he was talking about... but apparently it promises that I’ll be faithful to you and intend to.... You know, when the time is right.
[Sydney looks like she’s tearing up again and Simon smiles.]
Simon: Well?
Sydney: I love it. It’s cute.
Simon: Awesome, I did something right for once, come on, put it on lets see how it....
[Simon can’t finish his sentence before Sydney leans forward and grabs him by the shoulders, pulling him towards her where they begin to kiss passionately. The two kiss for a minute, caressing each other before Sydney lays down and pulls Simon down with her, the scene fades to black as Simon takes his hands and begins lifting her shirt... the end.]
I’m putting everything on the line for this Kelly....
I told you I was sorry... and yet here we are still, coming to this. I don’t know what else I could do, I didn’t want to face you again, I didn’t want to bring things to this but you just kept pushing, just kept trying to break me inside.... but you couldn’t could you? You’ve resorted to trying to take the one last thing I have to offer, you resorted to the one and only thing you know I couldn’t part with... and now we’re here.
I don’t care anymore Kelly. You’ve pushed me around for the last time. I made a mistake... a MISTAKE. Now it’s time for you to be the one to get over it. If I lose... I’m ok with it, maybe I can’t work in NCW ever again, maybe I can’t wrestle for a company without a mask ever again, maybe I’ll never see my mom’s pendant ever again.... but at least I know I stayed true to who I was this time. I didn’t betray myself.
I made so many mistakes when I thought i wanted to get married, have kids, and retire because I thought that was what a normal person would want, I thought that’s what it would take to finally be normal, but now...
I know I’m not normal...
and I know that’s what makes me special.
See no matter if you take my name, no matter if you take my face...
I’m still that person.
I’m still the video game loving geek...
I’m still the light saber wielding, fun loving, hyper active nerd...
and you can’t change that!
Win or lose...
I AM ZELDA KNITE.
A match result will never change that....
