The new year, full of people making false promises and planning on making their lives better. To bad they never get beyond the planning stage. Not me, I have many works in store for 2013, and one of the most noted and I personally can not wait for is the reopening of my beloved Casino. In fact I was contacted by the general contractor and my apartment in the building that will soon be the Casino is ready. So Preston and I had left the sanctuary that my friend and mentor Victor Taylor provided for the bustling Atlantic City, The Vegas of the East.
We open in Atlantic City, cruising down the main strip is a cab with Davey Ortega and James Preston. Davey is wearing sunglasses, and a nice suit while Preston is looking out the window, almost overwhelmed by the buildings and the people.
Preston: Oh wow, I had no idea Atlantic City was so beautiful...I mean it's in Jersey.
Davey: Why does this impress you? You used to live in Vegas.
Preston: Yeah but that was years ago...
Davey nods in assurance as the cab rolls on and after a few miles pulls into a parking lot that has a building with obvious signs of construction. Davey gets out of the cab with a smile on his face as he looks at his new building, slowly turning around to see the building across his own. Big names like Trump Tower and Bellagio surround him as he has a look of an arrogant owner, blowing them off as if they are not a threat to him as he walks towards the building with Preston just behind him. Davey opens the door to sounds of hammers, electric drills and saws. A man rushes up to them with his hands in front of him, motioning ''stop, stop''
Man: You need a hard hat to go any further...
Davey: You just let random people go through a construction site?
Man: Um, no..but I'm guessing your the owner since you have on the fancy threads.
Davey: Astute. I am Davey Ortega, and I guess I need a hard hat.
The guy grabs some hard hats hanging by the door and gives one to Davey and the other to Preston. Davey puts his on and looks around.
Davey: Now please, show me my apartment.
The man nods and begins to walk as Davey and Preston follow as Preston looks around and then looks up, noticing something very familiar...a mirror angled down. Preston stops and looks for a few seconds and then steps to it, catching up with Davey as they walk through huge room, presumably the main gaming floor that will soon house slot machines, Black Jack, and Roulette. They go through a door leading to a nicely done staircase. Half way up the stairs Preston stops and looks back, then forward.
Preston: This somehow seems very familiar...
Davey looks back and smiles, a grin peppered with arrogance as he turns forward and continues up the stairs, Preston soon to follow. They reach their destination, a landing with double doors that Davey gets to first, placing his hands on the knobs and slowly turning them, then throwing open the doors to his pleasure, and Prestons horror. It is the exact set up of his old office in the old Casino, a leather couch near the far wall with a plasma screen TV facing it mounted on the wall. A solid mahogany desk sits with a package on top of it. Davey enters the room, the construction going on downstairs could be seen as non existent since the room is sound proof. Davey turns to the large window that shows the gaming room. A two way mirror. Davey then looks at Preston who can not believe what he is seeing, almost like he stepped five years into the past.
Davey: So much has happened here...and so much is about to.
Preston: It's the same...it's exactly the same. Davey, this is not healthy. I though this was going to be a near year...a new Casino a new Davey...
Davey seems oblivious to Preston as he is at his desk, opening up the package.
Davey: Ah Victor, I can always count on you.
Davey pulls out a bottle of Brandy, much to Preston's dismay and immediate reaction
Preston: DAVEY!! Get rid of that immediately! It is a clear violation of your contract and can get you fired.
Davey: Calm down, I don't want to drink it. It is merely decorative and I really don't think that the staff would be concerned if I have this. They have their hands full lately and I am not a person of interest to them.
Preston: Yes, yes you are. At least until after Sunday you are. Right now you are a contender, a possible champion. If you slip up, get drunk and fail to perform your obligations then that's it. NCW is done with you for life. And whats worse is they will terminate my contract.
Davey: You're contract is tied with mine, so rest assured you are safe. I am not going to risk everything that I have going, my casino, my career, my year, my sobriety or my life for a double shot. I am beyond that, better than that. I have faced my demons, it took me five long years but I stand here in my resurrected Casino telling you it was all worth it. I'm not willing to forsake everything I learned to travel down a beaten path. I'm sober Preston, now and forever. I have too many plans in the works for a drunken mistake to ruin everything.
Preston: ...Plans? Davey I have known you for sometime, you have more in the works just then the tag titles don't you?
Davey smiles
Preston: Why did you interview Nathan Webb? Why did you lie? You intentionally mislead Carly Robbins and told Nathan a blatant lie. Even if O-TV has massive low ratings you will soon be able to bankroll it yourself. Why did you interview him and regurgitate stupid questions and feign stupidity?
Davey: I'm scouting him.
Preston: For what? He has nothing. He has no gold to challenge for, he is clearly uninterested in help with this war he has with the staff, which you have no reason to get involved with anyways. So what does he have that you are willing to interview him?
Davey: A sister...
There was only one question in that ''interview'' I gave that I wanted...and he answered it. He wants me no where near Rose, and I have to say that only makes me want to meet her and talk to her more. She is the most unique female here, with her speech patterns and the cute way she says ''Mister'' and ''Missus''
Preston: Of course, take away the booze and drugs the only thing left is women.
Davey: You mean pussy.
Preston: What?
Davey: You. You mean pussy. That is not what I am talking about. I want to get to know here because I think I can help her through this tough time. She watched her brother get demolished. I have been demolished. She needs to know that people can bounce back and flourish.
Preston: I'm pretty sure her brother provides that inspiration.
Davey: Really? The man who couldn't get it done at Breaking Away. The man who got his ass handed to him on the last episode of Collision in 2012. They man who will humble before our King in the first Pay Per View of 2013. Nathan, if you are listening I hope Adam wraps that chain around your neck and just squeezes, and I am sorry Rose has to hear this from me. You are stubborn, and simply ignorant thinking you can handle the staff alone. Collision truly proved you are outnumbered and yet you persist with the outlaw facade. You want to be the one man who takes out nCw's governing body, and yes even if you do you have no plan on how to make it better. Nathan think of this; Your war, your crusade has only made you miserable, and in turn made Rose suffer. I, on the other hand will soon have the means and finance to make sure she gets the help she needs after what you have done to her, and she will also get emotional support.
Rose Acantha, I think I will make you the one thing I never thought, my New Years Resolution. I will show all the nay sayers and your brother that they are wrong and prove to you that I am the best person to be in your life. Just do me a favor and think about it, you have plenty of time.
Yet only a percent of my focus is on her...
Preston: What else is on your mind?
Gib, Gib, Gib. I guess this is the part where I say ''how have you been? Good to see you'' but that would be awkward. The fact is this is the first time you and I have been in the same ring with one another.
So I'm curious how are you so confident that you are just gonna pick me apart? Did you watch my tapes? Does nCw have tapes on me? They must have, since you are so ready and eager to dismiss me. It's true that I don't have the most illustrious career, or the best legacy. You don't have to remind me that my only accomplishment here is building my Empire. It didn't last, you know it and they know it.
They know it all
My failures, my chokes. I'll embrace them. All my failures, all the times I was right on the cusp as you said and just couldn't get over..
It's my motivation.
Yet I am wiling to give the devil his due, and agree with you. Team America is the longest reigning Tag Team Champions at 267 days. That is THE accomplishment. You have set the bar so high you now think nothing can touch it, or you. What team could possible rise to your standards?
Ha...yeah...standards right Gib?
Well here it is Gib, the truth. Something that had plagued Team America for months now. You..are...obsolete.
Get it?
You no longer embody or represent a frenzied American crowed so desperate to dethrone the Un-Americanz. There is no one insulting the American way of life. Hell I will soon re open my Casino and Joe has aways been the defender of Old Glory. Two American dreams, and no foul play
All you now stand for is the American laziness thats haunts us. You are so desperate to shove your past greatness in my face. So willing to shove my past failures in my face that you think you can dodge the question. Now that you are here Gib, now that you have spoken let me as you the one question you don't want to hear.
What have you done lately?
That is what our industry is all about. You *were* a World Champion, dominating the roster at forty eight. Yet here you are now, against me... touting about past things that I didn't even see, much less care about. Yes, you are the currently one half of the Tag Team Champions, and I know you are so desperately clutching on that title because you want to remain on TV.
So tell me who was your competition in the 267 days you have been champion? Give me one notable, worthy team. How many novelties crossed Team America? How long has it been since Team America had a real fight?
Honestly, I don't care. I am going to enter Mind Games with the intent of giving you your last real fight...
