As the scene fades in and the darkness turns to light, we see the home of Mike Laszlo...MY HOME! The trees are bare, the ground ice cold from the lack of heat on days other than today, a mild day for the middle of January. The air was mild, but the breeze felt like an icy cold dagger every single time it blew. Despite all that, there I was sitting on the front steps, hands folded hanging from where my wrists meet my knees. The camera zooms in and I look up from my posturing stance.
Alex, I don’t get it. Here I am sitting in front of my lovely, humble abode only to come to grips with the fact that you and nobody else wants to hear about my life?
I have to come to grips with the fact that my opponent this week is far more stuck in the past then I ever have been?
I was the longest reigning Honor, then X Champion, but that’s in the past. As the cool kids say, “that is sooooo last year.” Nobody cares about that anymore; just as nobody gives a rat’s ass about the X-Division Title. Nobody cares that you held it, nobody cares that Rob Diamond held it, and do you know why? It’s defunct. It has no relevance in today’s society. In all honesty, it’s a lot like you.
There once was a man named Alex. He stood there in his glory. He was one of those people that had his shot and failed. He is one of those people I told Roberto about a month or so ago. He’s one of those people that was able to climb the mountain on his own. He got oh so close. He could probably stick his tongue out from his face and perhaps get a taste of that gold plated belt…and yet…he failed.
Standing up from the steps I take a few steps down and hold my hand out toward the house of which I was in front of.
Do you see this Alex? Do you? I didn’t get into a house like this, have cars like that, and the garner the great life I have by becoming an “Almost Somebody” like yourself. No, no, no, no, no! I became a somebody by being successful at every damn venture I’ve ever stuck my hands into.
Take last week for example. Yes it took three times, but I did something that few men in this company have actually done…I defeated Xander Famularo in the center of that ring, one, two, THREE!
Some call it adaptation, other call it evolution Alex. The first time Xander and I went toe to toe, I didn’t know what to expect. People talked him up as the best wrestler to ever grace a squared circle, and I won’t lie, I may have been a little intimidated, and it led to my downfall. I was star struck as they say. Here I was the new guy, been here a year and all of a sudden I’m going one on one with the best the company had to offer at the time. So I lost and it wasn’t pretty.
Then came round two. Did I win? No, but I learned from the first time. I did what all of us great ones do, something you never could…I adapted. It was close, and in the end, Xander won again.
Then there was last week. Last week where the adaptation continued…the EVOLUTION continued. When I hit Xander with the Malicious Intent in the center of that ring and pinned his shoulders to the mat, the world knew what I already did…I was for real, and I’m here to stay.
The sly little grin with that little under the breath snicker that you all saw me do on Collision last week as I accepted Verona’s challenge, well it makes a cameo in this very spot as I then point into the camera to reference my opponent for this coming Sunday.
This brings me back to you Alex. It brings me to my point as to why I will beat you this Sunday and again prove to the world that I am now beyond the lower titles of this company.
You, will never be considered great. It’s no knock to the ability you possess in that twenty by twenty ring. It is however a knock to your mental psyche. You did the opposite of what you were supposed to do. You didn’t adapt. You didn’t evolve. You took your ball home. You “rebooted” your career. That’s a cop out and we all know it. Your “reboot” as you put it is simply another way of saying you couldn’t handle the top status of this company. You can’t be its flag bearer. You decided to “reboot” because you know what I know, and what the world witnessed, YOU CAN’T CUT IT!
So as you sit there and wallow along in the mid-card with your X title, of which I fear not you breaking my record for longest reign, know that the following is the way you are viewed in the wrestling world.
You’re not a has been. You’re not even a never was. You’re a never could be.
You need to know how the world views you Alex. They view you as the man behind the great woman. They see you as the one who stands in the shadows of your more successful WIFE!
Again I turn toward the front door of my house and outstretch my arms to show it off in all of its magnificent glory. I then return to the steps and assume the same hands clinched pose I had when we opened this little promo.
Alex, you said you didn’t want a glimpse inside my life. You said that you and the world didn’t care. The people care, otherwise they wouldn’t tune in each and every week. You don’t care, but then again, you’re a man who sits on a plateau and looks up to the top of the mountain where I stand and do battle, and you look on with jealousy and malice. Your opinion means nothing to me because you are simply put inferior to me. So no Alex, I won’t give you a glimpse into my life, not because you don’t want to see it, but because you don’t deserve to see it!
Getting up from my seated position, I begin to head inside. As I reach for the door handle I pause and turn back toward the camera.
If you were so “honorable” you wouldn’t need Verona by your side this Sunday. All that does is further prove that you know of your inferiority. You can bring Verona, you can bring your attractive and more successful wife, just know that none of it matters because in the end, you will lose. Why? Because I am the best thing going in this company right now and now…EVERYBODY KNOWS IT!!!
