Kathleen Conway, her sister Tiffany, Caleb Lockwood and the two young children, Solitaire and Domino are all sat in the family room of their luxurious Las Vegas home as Jake Conway lowers a sheet of paper as he is stood in front of them.
Jake: So...tell me honestly, what do you think?
Tiffany: Pretty good...
Kathy: I still think you gave him a little too much credit, sweetie...
Jake: He was my mentor, honey...
Kathy: I know...still after everything you've been through, I think you need to remember this is going to be your moment, not his...not enough people give you credit at it is, don't sell yourself short is all I'm saying, you're better than people say you are...
Solitaire: I liked it, daddy...
Caleb: I'm with Solitaire...it was great...
Tiffany: You know, I still can't believe that NCW is coming to an end...
Caleb: Me either, it still hasn't quite sunk in...
Jake: Admittedly, it all seems a little too surreal at the moment...
Kathy: Yeah, as you guys know, ever since the press conference announcement, I've been looking into the smaller companies, there's a nice little start up wrestling company emerging, and they're looking for some corporate types so I applied...
Jake: And?
Kathy: And I heard back from them yesterday, they offered me the job to head up their female division...
Jake: That's fantastic!
Tiffany: Congratulations, sis...
Caleb: Well done, Mrs C...
Kathy: Thanks guys, but before you all break out the balloons, I think you should know that I turned it down...
Jake: What? Why?
Kathy gets up from the couch and walks over to her husband. She puts a hand on his face and looks lovingly into his eyes.
Kathy: For two reasons. First, I know you've been thinking about hanging up the old boots ever since the announcement, I know we've talked about it a lot over the past few days, but honestly wherever I go after NCW I don't think I could do this without you by my side. If you ask me you're in incredible physical shape for your age babe, and you've really only had a third of Gib's career. People regard you as a veteran already, and I think I know you well enough to know that deep down this isn't what you want either. You easily have at least another five years left in you, maybe ten...
Jake takes her hand from his cheek and grasps it gently before looking her sincerely in the eyes.
Jake: Maybe you're right Kat. Just know that I will not continue to do this without you, either...
Kathy: I know...
Jake: You said you had a second reason, what is it?
Kathy: Well, the situation with Kelly got me thinking. Remember how we talked about wanting more kids but not being able to because of our responsibility to the Starlets Division?
Jake solemnly nods.
Kathy: Well, it looks like we won't have that responsibility for much longer, and I think I'm ready. If Adam can shut down an entire company for his family, I have to wonder what you would do for us Jake. How much do you love us? How much do you love me? How much do you love Soli and Min really? Do you love me as much as Adam loves Kelly or more...and how do you intend to prove it to us?
Jake looks stunned by his wife's sudden questioning of his sincerity.
Jake: Do you still really need to ask me that?
Kathy: After I've caught you making moony eyes at Mercy and Emma over the last year alone, I think I have a right...
Jake: Please tell me you don't really feel that way sweetie...
Kathy tries to remain stone faced in her conviction as she sees the doubt and regret creep across her husband's face....but she cannot, and she cracks a smile before bursting into laughter.
Kathy: OH MY GOD! THE LOOK ON YOUR FACE! IF I HAD A CAMERA RIGHT NOW...
Kathy turns to the rest of the family.
Kathy: Y'all saw that, right? I totally got him!
Kathy then pulls away and starts swaying her hips in a victory dance, swinging her arms as she laughs proclaiming "I GOT YA GOOD!" The family burst out laughing, as Jake takes a deep breath.
Jake: What ya got honey is a five second head start...
Kathy stops dancing, squeals and bolts out of the room in fits of giggles as her husband gives chase throughout the house.
Trust me Gib, nobody was more surprised than me to see your name penned in across from mine this week. Now I could go the route everybody else seems to when it comes to you, but quite frankly I've had enough of being labelled a boring old parrot with nothing original to say. It is no fairer a label to me as calling you a washed up has been who is way passed his prime would be to you. I'm sure you still think of me as some kind of vastly inferior talent to you, and maybe I am. It's not every day that I have to step into the ring with a man who has two decades of professional in ring experience on me.
Contrary to what you may think of me and my motivations in this match Gib, I am not just another foil for you, I'm not just some spring chicken looking to show the world that your best days are behind you, and I'm certainly not in this match because Verona gave me my marching orders for the week. I respect and appreciate your age and experience for what it is old man, I respect it because age breeds wisdom and frankly there is not another man on the roster today who could teach me more about longetivity, both in and out of the ring. On Sunday, during the match, I want to learn from you old timer, I want to know how to go thirty years in this business first hand. Then when the match is over, and we shake hands and I help you navigate those tricky ring steps without falling over and breaking your hip, I want you to thank me over a few post match beers by telling me exactly how to still please Kathy in the bedroom when we're both in our sixties. Deal?
You see Roberto may have run out of uses and patience for men of the Famularo bloodline, but I still see a use for you. You still have a place in the company, and anybody who says different frankly is just embarrassed about repeatedly getting upstaged by a fifty year old man. You see to Bertie, this match is made as a matter of revenge and retribution for your son's transgressions against him. To Bertie, this is all about offering me a chance at redemption in return for never having beaten you. For me, this match is about so much more than a whole slew of buzz words that begin with 'Re'.
I'm not seeking a rebuttal for what happened over three years ago, I'm not looking to recoup that loss. What good is it to me now, nearly four years after the fact? Some people will insist Gib that you beat me at my peak whilst you were at yours, behind that mask, and you may be proud to count yourself among them, but let me remind you of one thing you seem to be glossing over here. If the World Heavyweight Championship truly was my peak here in NCW and Homeless Harold was yours, then what on God's green Earth are we still doing here in the NCW of 2013 as a three time National Champion and one half of the longest reigning Tag Team Champions in history respectively?
You ask me what's so different now compared to those days in 2009...well there you have it, Grandpa. We have both transcended our peaks, we have both proven our doubters wrong, we have both silenced our harshest critics who said there was nothing left for us, that we'd go no further than some arbitrary line in the sand they would have drawn for us, but here we are. Outlasting guys who have achieved so much more than either of us. When this company started, everybody talked about the Lance Ryans and the Spike Kanes, yet where are they now? This company is closing its doors not by remembering how it started, but embracing how it will finish...
Not with Spike and Lance.
But with Gib and Ace.
It's time to show the youth how its done once again.
And I'm game if you are, old man.
Jake: So...tell me honestly, what do you think?
