The scene opens in a dimly lit bar. Shane Hunt is sitting at the table in the very corner of the room, alone. The camera is zoomed in on his face. He's looking down at something, but we don't know what it is as it's off-camera.
The look on Shane's face is one of anguish. He lets out a sigh, then parts his lips and begins speaking in a disappointed tone.
" I can't believe it. I can't believe I lost again. I was dominating Rob Diamond. I was throwing him around like a rag doll. Hell, I had him beat... But then it all went wrong in a split second. How the **** did that happen? How did I go from being ready to finish him off, to laying face up on the mat, out cold? I just don't understand how I was able to mess it up, when all I had to do was hit that Wolf Bomb and it would have been over. "
Shane's eyes close for a second, and he slowly shakes his head. When his head stops moving and his eyes open, he goes straight back to focusing on what's on the table in from of him.
" First it was A.C. Douglas who I had beat, but failed to put away. Now it's Rob Diamond. I shouldn't be losing these matches. I wouldn't have lost them a couple of years ago, that's for sure. "
Shane's eyebrows drop, and he now looks concerned.
" Surely that's not it. Surely I haven't lost it after just two years away from the sport. Maybe I have though. I mean, it'd explain a lot. It'd explain why I'm ****ing up, and am unable to capitalise on the opportunities I've had to win my matches. Maybe I should have stayed away from the wrestling business after I injured my knee again. Maybe I should have just... "
At this point, the camera slowly zooms out to eventually reveal what Shane has been staring at. It's a full bottle of beer. Shane's hand moves forward, clutching the bottle in it as they meet on the table. For the moment though, Shane's hand and the bottle remain on the table.
" Maybe I'd have been better off if I'd not left this behind. I mean, life was so much easier when I was constantly drunk. I had no ambitions, and no worries. I just went out, got drunk, slept it off again, and then repeated the process. It was a daily thing, the norm. It was the easy life, and nothing in it was disappointing. "
Shane lifts the bottle now, and brings it closer to his face. Watching the bubbles rise to the top of the bottle, Shane longs to drink that beer and go back to how things once were.
" This weekend, I have a match against Mike Laszlo. It's another match I should win. It's another match I would have eased through a couple of years ago. Now though, I'm finding myself wondering whether it's worth bothering with. Is there any point showing up for the match, when there's a voice in the back of my mind telling me I'm just going to fall short again? "
The bottle starts moving closer to Shane's mouth, tipping gradually in Shane's hand as it does so. Shane's hand stops moving when the bottle's millimeters away from his lips. Suddenly though, Shane's eyes widen as he realises what he's about to do.
" If I drink this beer, there's no turning back. If I drink it, I can kiss goodbye to my wrestling career. I can also kiss goodbye to the respect I've earned from the people who matter to me. The respect I earned by giving this poison up in the first place. "
The bottle now moves further from Shane's mouth. He takes one last gaze at it, and throws it at the wall. It shattered, and a mixture of glass and liquid fly in all directions. Luckily, there was nobody sitting at the table which the bottle impacted with the wall behind.
Shane slams a closed fist down on the table. At the same moment, his expression turns to one of focus and intensity. His next words are barked out in a strong, meaningful manner.
" No, I won't disappoint everyone who now believes in me! More importantly, I won't disappoint myself by giving up on my passion! I may be frustrated right now, but releasing that frustration with alcohol isn't the way I want to go. I want to get rid of it the way I know best... In the wrestling ring! I've done a ****ty job since I've returned to NCW, but that's all about to change. "
Shane's head jars sideward, and for the first time since the camera started rolling, his focus has turned directly toward it.
" Mike Laszlo, you probably think you've got an easy match this weekend, and will win for sure. You're facing someone who's lost two on the bounce, so why wouldn't you think that? Well, I'm telling you now that you can think again. Yes, I've lost two in a row, but this weekend I come to the ring not just as a man who's looking to get back into the game. This weekend, I come to the ring as a man on a mission. I'm on a mission to show all the doubters that I DO still have what it takes to get it done. I want to show them that I've not lost my edge, and that I can put away any wrestler on any given day. You Mike, are the unlucky first of many who'll experience what I can do when I'm on a mission. It's such a shame, because you bounced back so well after your loss against Rob Diamond. You beat three very experienced wrestlers, and you did so in such impressive fashion. Now though, it's my turn to bounce back from a defeat at the hands of Rob Diamond. It's my turn to impress, and I shall impress at your expense. "
Shane is now adorning a familiar scowl, which shows he means business. He stands up, and the camera has to refocus and adjust. Shane doesn't care about the camera focus though, as long as Mike Laszlo can hear what he's saying.
" The voice in the back of my mind, the voices of the doubters... They're all talking bull****! I'm not going to fall short this time round. Mike, when I get you set up for the Wolf Bomb, I WILL execute it in devastating fashion. I won't screw up like I have done recently. I'll slam you down on the mat as hard as I possibly can. I don't care if it injures you. Hell, if I put you on the shelf for good, then so be it! The more it hurts you, the better for me. I'll make an example of you. I'll show everyone in the locker room that Shane Hunt is back at his best, and that they should all fear my destructive power. The doubters, I'll shut up with brutal actions. One by one, they will fall by my hands. One by one, they'll learn to respect me. One by one they will.... Be victimized! "
Shane points at the camera.
" Starting with you, Mike Laszlo. You'll be the first victim of my fight for respect. I won't stop hurting you until you tell me that you respect me. I will break you down, until you're begging for mercy. You will never forget the name Shane Hunt, for as long as you live... And that may not be very long at all, if I don't hear you screaming the words " Shane, I respect you! " before I break your scrawny little neck! "
Shane's hands come together, and he pretends he's snapping someone's neck with as little as a forceful twist of the wrists. He then drops his hands to his sides.
" See you in the ring this weekend, Mike. You'd best be prepared to fight for your life, because I'm prepared to take yours if that's what's necessary to show others what I'm capable of. Fear me, respect me, but don't **** with me unless you want to be decimated! "
With a wolf like snarl, Shane has finished speaking. The time for words is done. Now it's time for Shane's actions to do the talking for him.
