Death.
Mere mortals fear it. So much that man will separate themselves from it as to not have to think about it. Not I, I do not fear death. I walk it, talk it, live it, see it! So why fear it? It happens. You can’t fight it. You can’t stop it. It’s inevitable. Much like life is the beginning, death is the end. And while many ponder the end as a dark, painful end filled with the horrors of the untold, I laugh at this. I see death as the promise land. With death comes freedom. The suffering no longer suffer when death tolls. I need not be afraid, for I am the being to be afraid of. And I’m completely fine with that.
Steve Awesome watched intently at the things that were happening in the latest Jack Manson promo. The freaky head trip, the car crash, the interview, everything. Even the whole beating up on the doctor thing, wich by the way, was SO last week. He watched it not with his usual cocky, dirt off the shoulder grin, but with a careful eye as not to miss a single word that Jack Manson had said. Not to miss pinpointing a single weakness that he could exploit in hopes of beating him easier at Cross Roads. And as much as he hated to admit it, everything about Manson looked solid. A great in-ring competitor and meaner than a cracked out hooker with one tit. But for however many good points Manson had in his favor, there was still one point that Awesome could pick out that could almost ensure victory.
Our hero let out a small chuckle as the Manson tape was slowly coming to an end. Awesome sat casually on a sofa in he and Layla’s hotel room. Dressed in a pair of sweat pants and no shirt he leans next to Layla.
Awesome: “Okay. I watched it….Can we do it now?”
Steve makes an attempt to kiss her neck but she pushes him off.
Layla: “How can you think of sex at a time like this?”
He grins.
Awesome: “It’s actually quite simple. Watch”
He pauses for a second, smiles, and then goes back to try and kiss Layla again. She bops him on the nose. Awesome leans back, holding his nose.
Awesome: “Be careful with the merchandise.”
He says as he wiggles it to make sure its still in working order.
Awesome: What’s wrong with you?
It’s obvious something was wrong. Layla sits looking forward, with her knee up to her chest. She only does that when she is unsure.
Layla: “I’m worried about this first blood match. Manson brought out the Maniac and he is going to end your career. And all you can think about is sex!”
Awesome: “Well if he is going to kill me, I might as well have some goodbye fun before the big day.”
She pushes him away.
Awesome: “Oh come on Layla. You don’t actually believe all that crap do you?”
She looks up at him with those big brown eyes and she lets out a tiny nod followed by a cute little sniffle.
Awesome: “Manson isn’t going to end anybody’s career. That crap you just saw in his promo…it was a scare tactic. He is trying to get inside my head. Mind games. Although those only work on the weak minded.”
She glares at him.
Awesome: “No offence of course. I mean do you really think that Manson’s dark reflection has taken over his body? Where are we? In a cheap episode of Charmed? He is just talking out of his ass, as usual. I mean the last time he “brought out the dark side” he lost to Spike. So hell, maybe he is doing me a favor with all this, who knows?”
Layla: But he looked so scary walking around that hospital.
Awesome cringes.
Awesome: Yeah he did. It’s called a stylist Jack. Get one for God’s sake.
Layla: And all that stuff he was saying…
Awesome: Manson was in the hospital AGAIN this month. The guy can’t keep getting hurt, can he? First he had to step away in the beginning of the month, then I busted him open with that chair, and now a car accident? Sounds like Manson is accident prone. That works out well for me.
Layla: So what are you going to do?
Awesome: Nothing. What do I have to be afraid of? Manson may have two minds that are equally boring, but he has the same body. The same limitations, and the same moves. The only problem now is that he is more vicious. And all I have to say about that is….FINALLY….Finally, Jack has decided to step up his game. It’s about time too. I was getting tired of constantly knocking him back a few pegs. Because I’ve been vicious all along. I’ve been licking my chops in anticipation for this match all month. Waiting for the opportunity that I won back at Meta. And now it just so happens that not only will I win the National Title but I’ll also beat the man into a bloody pulp.
Layla contemplates this for a few moments. It actually sounded quite legit. And she finally smiles.
Layla: “Thanks baby. I feel a lot better. But you have to promise me something. You can’t let him end your career. If you get hurt out there, I don’t know what I’d do.”
Awesome: “Don’t worry. He couldn’t even if he tried. I’ve already made him bleed remember? I’ve already drawn first blood. Those stitches in his head are only a week or two old. He has been in a car accident, arguing with himself. Meanwhile I’ve been training and getting myself mentally prepared. I have Jack’s number.”
Layla: Okay.
She says, leaning up and planting a kiss on Steve’s cheek.
Layla: I’m going to make dinner.
Steve nods as she walks off. He takes a good look at her ass as she walks away and then once she was out of sight he turned his attention back to the camera.
“Jack, Jack, Jack. So the face of Ultra-Violence is back in the flesh eh? You finally gave control over to your more sadistic side. Then you went and you let him say all those mean and nasty things in the hall of the hospitable. But I have to ask you, dude, what exactly were you hoping to prove by doing that? Were you hoping to somehow gain the advantage because now your more crazy? More sadistic? Because now you want to end my career and all that spooky scary stuff that you weird masochists like to say before big matches like this. That **** may work on Layla, but it doesn’t work for me.”
Steve shakes his head, slowly.
“Do you know how many times I’ve herd those words uttered out from somebody’s mouth? I’ve faced the masked killers, the hardcore warriors, the death defying high flyers, the street fight brawlers. I’ve faced them all. They all told me that they were going to end my career. They always tried to explain to me the evil, sadistic things that they are going to do to me and I always just listened on with a smile. They ask me the same old question, “What are you going to do now”? What are you going to do now, Awesome? Now that I’ve gone to my dark place I’m unstoppable. You can’t beat me when I’m nailing you in the ribs with a two by four wrapped in barbed wire. First of all, chief, thanks for the heads up on the two by four thing. I’ll be looking out for that. And second of all, I’m going to do what I always do here in nCw. And that’s walk out to that ring, whoop the ass of whoever is in it when I get there, pick up the win, and walk out.”
Awesome holds up his hand as if he were stopping someone from speaking and the continues.
“Now hold up, Jack. Don’t get your panties in a bunch here. I’ll play along with you this time. Yes, you switched control and let the maniac out to play or whatever other mumbo jumbo you expect us to believe. Your probably going to try and do things now that may or may not end up being a bit uncomfortable for good old Steve Awesome. Because your all crazy and sadistic now. But guess what man, I’ve been that way since the beginning! I’ve been knocking lumps into you since after Meta. I’m already sick! I’m already ****ing sadistic, man. I don’t need to give anybody in my head control to have fun while I make you bleed. I’m sitting here licking my damn chops in anticipation, Jack. Ever since I tasted your blood the first time, I’ve wanted more of it. And when I saw you lying in a pool of your own crimson, I haven’t been able to shake the thought. I want to do it again. And I get the chance this Sunday."
“You say that Cross Roads is going to be different. Were going to face off one on one for the first time. And because I don’t have a partner to watch my back, I’m going to lose? Jack…you had partners too, and you still lost! Trent and I beat your amazing tag team with Ortega. I’ve BEATEN you already. And now at Cross Roads…I have you all to myself. And honestly, I think the thought scares you. I think that you remember what I’ve put you through this month so your searching for any edge you can find. Switching to this evil side of yourself. And even that won’t help you. What happened last time? You kidnapped Spike’s sister and then he kicked your ass in a barbed wire cage match. And that’s what I have to look forward to from the face of ultra violence?”
Awesome snorts in response to his own question.
“Any way you chop it, Jack. Your still the same guy. You still have that same weakness. Yourself. Your so busy fighting yourself, treading that line of good and evil that your not taking me as seriously as you should. Do you really know what your up against here? You think I’m afraid of death, Jack? You think I fear the end? No. I am death. I am the end. Your end. I’ve already proven who the hungrier man has been. I’ve shown you how bad I want that National Title, and you haven’t shown me anything except that you like thunderstorms and you apparently can’t drive a car.
Awesome shrugs his shoulders. He knew that he had a huge plate in front of him at Cross Roads. But he wasn’t going to let that deter him from his victory. Steve had already made jack bleed once before. All he had to do was do it again. And he was going to do it. He felt it.
“So tell me Jack, what are you going to do? What are you going to do when you realize that everything you have won’t be enough. That everything you throw at me will come back ten fold. What are you going to do when you realize that the Awesome Style beat down was inevitable. NOTHING! Your nothing to me Jack. It's all over for you this Sunday. And if you didn't know that by now......
Awesome shrugs. His flippant attitude being shown off for the thousandth time. But behind the sunglasses, deep down inside he knew what he had to do. He knew what he was capable of and if Manson couldn't see that, then he really did already win. He knew the weakness of Jack Manson. He knew what it took to drop Manson like a bad habit. All it took was....
