~*~*~One month ago, things seemed so unclear, but unclear in almost a pure way if that is even possible. Lance Ryan worked together with The Empire to get rid of the half-ass leader atop their group, Davey Ortega. We all watched on in shock as Lance set up his opponent, and The Empire knocked him down. Everything was so unclear as to where the war between NWS and The Empire was going, but one thing was for sure, it seemed that at least a mutual respect between Lance and Spike would keep this war from becoming out of hand. ~*~*~
~*~*~What a difference a month makes. Spike Kane and Lance Ryan seem to have completely forgotten that they once had respect for one another, and their war has in fact become bloody, brutal and harsh for both men. More than anything else, it has become personal. We watched on as an invigorated Spke Kane pushed all of the buttons that he knew would work with Lance. Saying that the champ’s son was his, making Lance cry on national television. We then saw a dejected Lance cost NWS an important tag team match on Collision. From there, Lance was reinvigorated, he struck back at Spike Kane, we found out that Lance was indeed the father of Cassandra’s baby, and then Lance struck a blow at Spike, and named his son after the dead son of Spike Kane. Finally, we were left with a somber image the last time that we saw Spike Kane. Spike lit his home, and the bedroom of Zell Kane afire, torching everything that reminded him of his son, and we were left to wonder. Left to wonder if there really will be a winner in this war that is going down this Sunday. Left to wonder if either man will be able to walk away after the 3 count falls on Monday. Most of all left to wonder what is actually left of the mentality, and the mental toughness of both men. This feud has broken both men down mentally, and on Sunday it most assuredly will break both men down physically.~*~*~
~*~*~They say that every man has his equal, that everyone has a doppelganger, and that no matter how great you are, you will always find someone greater. That brings to mind two questions within this feud with Lance and Spike. Who is great, and who is greater…but perhaps that is the wrong question. In the world that is wrestling, there are good guys, and there are bad guys. That is what makes the world go around, that is what brings the money feuds, and that is what characters a man is given to play. In this feud, Spike was labeled ad the bag guy, Lance, the good. But after analyzing the information before us, perhaps the better quote is that: No matter how bad a man is, there will always be someone that is worse. It seems that in the lead up to this title match, Spike Kane and Lance Ryan have brought out the worst of one another, but this Sunday, it is expected that they will bring out the best. Two men, two stable leaders, and most of all, two human beings, they have dragged one another through the mud, tarnishing their name’s, ripping open wounds, and causing irreparable damage. One of these men will in fact leave with the World Title on Sunday…the other, will fall, knowing that he is great, but not the greatest.~*~*~
~*~*~The scene opens and we see Lance Ryan, he is sitting in a darkened arena in a wrestling ring. We can gather that he is at the site of Retribution. The ring now ready, the arena set up, but the action, still to come. Lance is sitting in the corner alone, dressed in his ring gear and staring straight ahead. One can only gather what is crossing the mind of the nCw champion mere hours before he goes to physical war with Spike Kane, after weeks of psychological warfare. The camera focuses in on Lance, he cracks his knuckles but doesn’t say a word. The silence is broken as we hear footsteps and Cassandra comes onto the scene. She is outside the ring. She puts a hand up and lays it on Lance’s shoulder.~*~*~
Cassandra: I thought I may find you here. Seems to be a tradition before the big match. What’s on your mind? Did you see what Spike did?
Lance: On my mind? What kind of champion would I be, if the answer to that was anything other than Spike Kane? Yes, I saw Spike taking the torch to his son’s personal effects. It was a fitting scene for what has gone on in the past few weeks. I won’t be out here for much longer, I will meet you at home. I need to have a few more moments to collect my thoughts, and get my mindset straight.
~*~*~Cassandra leans over and gives Lance a kiss. She then leaves without saying a word. Lance sits in silence for about a minute, and then lets out a deep sigh. He then starts to speak in a very calm and even voice.~*~*~
Lance: It has been quite a ride hasn’t it Spike? We have ripped and tore at the being of one another. I missed the birth of my son, you lit fire to the memories of yours. I must say, that fire seems to be fitting for this roller coaster that we have been on.
You see, in literary works, fire is used as symbolism for destruction, chaos and war. That is what this has become has it not? Chaos. The two of us, two men that have claimed to respect one another…sinking to a level such as this, what has become of us? This is not respect. This is indeed war. There is another thing that fire represents Spike, purification. Call me crazy, but I think that my life has been purified through all of this. I discovered that I was living a lie, that I needed to become a man in my personal life, and that I needed to learn how to bottle my emotions. In fact, you helped me to become a better person Spike, you helped me to overcome my emotions, something that has been destructive to me for years. In essence, I cannot speak for you, but I think that I have done the same for you. You may not see it now, but that fire…that was not simply an act of rage, it was the destruction of, as you said, one of those things that is holding you back. You see Spike, through my career, my goals have been two-fold. I want to win, as everyone does, but I also strive to make my opponent better. Look at Davey, you and I lit the fire under him. Now, you. Win or lose Spike, we are both changed from this feud. I think that as much as we have damaged one another, we have also aided one another. This Sunday, we will both be bringing our absolute best to the table. May the best man win, as the saying goes Spike.
~*~*~Lance is interrupted as Matthew comes down to ringside and is holding Lance’s child. Matt climbs the steps and enters the ring. He walks over to Lance, and hands Lance his child.~*~*~
Matthew: I have to head out, and I couldn’t find Cassandra, I hope you don’t mind.
Lance: I don’t. But please, leave me.
~*~*~Matthew leaves the ring now as well, leaving Lance with Zell in the corner.~*~*~
Lance: You know Spike. My child is the lucky one. He did become a pawn in all of this, much did your son who is no longer with us. However, he has no idea what is going on. His primal needs are milk and sleep at this time. He has no idea what this feud is all about, and to be fair, I question if we do as well. The two of us have run headlong into this thing, tearing lives apart, and for what purpose? For a world title? For a stable feud?
~*~*~Lance pauses for effect after those questions.~*~*~
Lance: None of it makes sense Spike. It was less than one month ago, we were working together, and now look at us. We have dragged every piece of our lives through this mess. Well, what’s done is done I suppose. The past is the past, and this Sunday it will all come to a physical head. Don’t think that I am not furious still. I missed the birth of Zell, and you are right, I will live with that for the rest of my life. You also nearly cost me my relationship. For that, I can never forgive you. But all hatred, and all anger aside, there is one thing that will be true when that bell rings. The two best wrestlers in nCw, and perhaps the best two wrestlers on this planet will be in that ring fighting for the industry’s top prize, and Spike…this may seem out of place, but good luck. I truly mean that.
~*~*~Lance grabs the ropes and pulls himself to his feet. He is standing now with Zell leaning on one side and the world title draped over his other arm.~*~*~
Lance: Spike. It has been a wild and crazy ride, this Sunday will cap it all off. Call me crazy, call me insane, call me unstable…I look forward to our match. It is a culmination of some of the best build that any man could give, and all of me will be into that match. Sunday, fire will be a part of our match. Will it be the flames of war? Will it be the flames of purification? Time will tell.
~*~*~The scene fades out, and we are left speechless. Respect? Good luck? Is the champion truly of sound mind? Is he lulling Spike into a false sense of security? Sunday will be war…will it not?~*~*~
