So isn’t this quite the interesting little triple threat match we have on Collision?
The brain trusts that are the NCW booking committee, took the three number one contenders of the year, the final three number one contenders, and put us all in one match with a nice little bow on top.
Gentlemen, and I use that term loosely, we all have one thing in common, we’ve all failed to win the most coveted title in this company be it for one reason or another. No matter the reason, there is another thing we all have in common, resolve.
No matter how many times we failed, we’ve gotten right back up and tried our hand again. My attempts at the World Title ended in controversy before there was finally a definitive ending. Will Washington’s did the same, and as far as the “Gladiator” is concerned, he too will probably end up failing in his endeavor.
One may look at what I’m saying right now as the white flag. They may see it as me giving into the fact that Roberto Verona is the best champion that this company has ever seen. Well you who assume that would all be wrong.
Verona may have the longest title reign, and he may now be unstoppable, but I tell you this now, and I mean it with every fiber of my being, if there was a different bounce here or there, Verona wouldn’t even be champion today as I utter these words.
No matter.
The past is the past, and there is no way of changing it. I don’t have a Delorean and I can’t go back in time and right the wrongs of NCW.
What I can do is learn from past mistakes, and do my best to help others achieve what at the time…I could not.
That brings me to door number one, holding the first of my two opponents, the 2013 NCW Gladiator, Alex Jones, who I still think lucked into that win by the way, but that’s another story for another time.
Alex, I see what’s happening and it is history repeating itself. It happened to me, and it happened to our opponent Will Washington. For you to be victorious at A Night To Remember, I want you to heed this warning.
You, like myself, and like Will got into Verona’s head. You split his face in two with his own title belt, similar to how I’ve done multiple times. You’re in his brain. He’s thinking about you. This is where the learning from mistakes comes in handy…DON’T LET UP!
So what if you cracked him in the head with his own belt. So what if you cost him a match against Gib for in the end, neither means a damn thing.
Alex, the end result is all that matters, and if you aren’t standing in the middle of that ring at A Night To Remember with the World Title held high, all of this will be for not. Nobody remembers the loser Alex…NOBODY!
I hope you take those words and use them wisely, but ultimately it is up to you to do as you please. Learn from the mistakes of others, otherwise the past is simply doomed to repeat itself.
Speaking of the past doomed to repeat itself…Will Washington.
Like myself, you had multiple opportunities to take that belt from Verona, and like myself, you failed. You can say I had three turns to your two, but unlike you, I actually won one of my matches.
It feels good, really it does. I can finally have a match where the other participants can’t dip into the well that everyone else has gone to over the last month or so. They can’t really go into my multiple failed attempts at the World Title because they’ve all been through the same misery as I have been through.
Sunday night on Collision, the three men who have or will challenge for the World Title are put in the same ring with one another and I show the world that I am indeed the best of the three.
====================
Title: Who Could It Be?
Location: Austin, Texas (Collision)
Time: 10:30 PM Local Time
I just pushed my way into a victory, and I mean that in the most literal sense of the word. My time was set, my opponent however, remains a mystery. I took on two worthy opponents and I came out on top. I now have what I wanted. I knew I couldn’t get into the World Title match at A Night to Remember, but now I will be able to create my own “Memorable Moment” on the biggest stage NCW has to offer. The question still loomed in my head as I came out of the shower, drying off my hair before putting on a pair of cargo shorts and a plain black t-shirt. Alexis was finishing packing her belongings before we headed out of the arena. On the drive to the hotel I spewed the unanswerable question.
Mike Laszlo: Who is it?
Alexis looked up from her “Words With Friends” game.
Alexis Caffrey: Who is who?
Mike Laszlo: My opponent?
Alexis Caffrey: I don’t know, they haven’t released next week’s card.
Mike Laszlo: I’m not talking about next week. I’m talking about this mystery opponent at a Night to Remember.
Alexis Caffrey: OHHHHH! In that case…I still don’t know.
Mike Laszlo: Well, I guess it wouldn’t be a mystery if you knew would it?
Alexis Caffrey: Guess not. Who could it be? I would assume it’s somebody from the past.
Mike Laszlo: Maybe a Hall of Famer? A lot of these old guys are returning just because the place is closing.
Alexis Caffrey: I know right? Freaking glory hogs. A Night to Remember should go to those like you who have been busting your butt this entire time. Not to a bunch of part-timers who thought it would be nice to give NCW a “proper send-off”.
Mike Laszlo: So let’s see, the only people I can think of for a “high profile spotlight match” are Falcon, Lex Sense, or Charlie Velez.
Alexis Caffrey: What about Ricky Johnson or even Brad Kane one more time?
The thought of each man crossed my mind as each was an admirable foe. Falcon, a Hall of Famer, maybe like the others, he would like his shot to give NCW it proper send off?
Charlie Velez?
He and I were going to align once upon a time, but something better, at least in his eyes, came up, and now look, he’s unemployed.
Lex Sense?
He and I have some unfinished business that I would like to continue. I wouldn’t mind standing across the ring from that freak of nature.
Brad Kane was part of the most memorable feud of last year with Lex Sense, and Ricky Johnson was wrestler of the year last year with his incredible “fairy-tale ending” that wasn’t. Either would be a challenge worthy of being called a high-profile match.
Alexis Caffrey: Does it really matter?
Mike Laszlo: What do you mean?
Alexis Caffrey: This is your moment, not theirs. This is your time to shine, not theirs. This is your “Night to Remember”, not theirs. The way I see it, it doesn’t matter who is standing across the ring from you, because you’re better than them. There’s only one person who can stop you from making NCW’s final show a positive memory for yourself, and that’s you.
Mike Laszlo: I knew I liked you for a reason.
Alexis Caffrey: You mean the puppy dog innocence face, or my cute smile weren’t enough?
Mike Laszlo: Oh they were, this was just icing on the cake.
The cute smile flashes across her gorgeous face as I flash an equally mischievous grin on my own. She was right, this was going to be MY night to remember and there wasn’t going to be a damn person living or dead who could stop me.
====================
In the end this match is truly meaningless. I mean, don’t get me wrong, proving that I’m the better man means something to me, and the entertainment value that the fans will receive means something as well. In the grand scheme of things though, it truly means nothing.
There’s not a title on the line.
I can’t win Alex’s Gladiator status and become the Number One Contender.
All that’s on the line is pride and maybe some bragging rights.
The outcome of this match has no bearing on Alex Jones challenging Roberto Verona for the World Title at A Night To Remember, barring unforeseen injury or some other tragedy.
This match has no bearing on whatever the hell Will Washington will be doing at A Night To Remember.
This match will have no bearing on my match at A Night To Remember.
It won’t reveal who my mystery opponent is. It won’t name me a stipulation. It does nothing and therefore it means
NOTHING!
To each his own though. I’ll gladly take bragging rights over the last two challengers as the best challenger of the year 2013. I’ll gladly hold bragging rights with a victory over the two men of whom I will face.
One thing is more important than all of that though. I’ll damn sure put on the best show of the night because that’s what I do, and that’s all I care about.
Bring your best.
Bring your so-called “A” Game. Hell, bring a game for every letter of the alphabet. The fact remains that none of it means a damn thing because I’ll play your games, and I’ll beat your games.
That may sound like arrogance to you.
That may sound like I’m full of myself to you.
You know what it sounds like to me?
