So I get a call this week from the front offices, the same front offices that haven’t booked me for two months after I humiliated the number one contender to the title, the same front offices who are scared to put me against anyone because they ultimately know what the outcome of the match is going to be. They ask me if I want to wrestle in the last ncw show ever, and they ask me if I want to wrestle a man that I have never faced before in Davey Ortega.
What the hell, why not humble one last person here? I mean, there have been so many people, legends, up and comers that have ridden in here, high on a horse only to fall at my feet writhing around in a puddle of their own self loathing failure, if I were to string off the people I have defeated around here, it would be a whose who of all the top stars this company has had. So, what do I have to prove now? Why come back for one match?
I honestly don’t know, I just want to feel it one more time. I want to feel the exhilarating rush that I feel when I walk to the ring; I want to have the electricity tingle the ends of my arm hair when my song plays over the PA. Walking to the ring and competing with someone is the greatest feeling a person can have, it is win or lose, best man walks away with this hand raised in the air.
Of course, I am usually that man.
See, I don’t know what is next for me, I don’t know if I will follow the others to another fed, another place, same people, same situations or if I will move on completely and find a new group to be involved with. It is a long and arduous process figuring these things out, I think we all know though, that wherever Xander lands, those people better be on notice, they better be ready to step aside and let the best pure wrestler in this business make his way to the top, otherwise they will merely be added to the pile of victims, the victims that lay in the gutters in both sides of whatever road I travel.
Davey, this is my last stand in ncw, one last night to prove that the past has no influence over me. The last time I saw you, you were getting the crap beat out of you by my old man, there is no way, not a single chance that you are going to be able to survive a full one-on-one match against me. At best, you were a sideshow around here whereas in my short couple years here, I amassed a record that was only joked about; I went on a year long winning streak in singles matches.
I proved, time and time again that I am the very best wrester, and Davey wrestling you, it isn’t going to threaten me, it isn’t going to faze me. I get to add one more head to my wall, one more trophy to my case.
And you will leave ncw the same way you spent your time here, substandard; an attraction, not a feature.
{Scene opens, Xander sits next to Jennifer on his father’s back porch, the porch overlooks Lake Ontario, the sun slowly sets over the horizon leaving a orange and yellow gleam over the water.}
Xander: So about this wedding, we should just do it. I mean, my dad is married now and he seems happy. We should just get married and have it done with. I have enjoyed the last couple months away from the ring, spending time with you traveling around and stuff and after this match I have no idea what I am going to do. I don’t know where my life will travel but I know one thing for sure, being that you are such a good business woman I can attach myself to you, and be pretty much unemployed and live off you. You can be my very own sugar momma.
{Jennifer laughs and snuggles her head on the shoulder of Xander. Gib and the new Mrs. Famularo come out on the back porch, Gib is wearing a bathrobe with a speedo under it and the Doc is wearing a long shirt, likely Gib’s.}
Gib: So, what the hell is going on children of mine? Damn life is good, I have a beautiful and successful wife who is going to allow me to retire and spend all my time building this fortress for her to invade while she picks brains apart, I have a son who has a fiancé and isn’t gay after all, and that aforementioned fiancé is freakin’ hot, and I really hope to walk in on her while she is showering soon.
{Everyone has a good laugh at this.}
Xander: You know what, I am ready. It is time. I know that I am young but I found a woman who loves me, a woman who accepts my slightly odd family, a woman who is really, really hot. I think that we should just do this, let’s make it a night to truly remember Jenny. I think we should, in front of the ncw fans get married. What better way to say goodbye to the place that made it possible for us to get together, the place that made our relationship happen. The place that provided the ups and downs that strengthened our bond…
{Jenny looks at him and smiles}
Jenny: It is about time…
{The four laugh at this as Gib enters the house, he returns with a cheap bottle of drugstore champagne, he holds it in front of his nether region and shakes it back and forth before popping the top off and hitting a money shot to a bird nest that is in a tree. The bird nest falls to the ground. He drinks from the bottle and hands it to his son who stands, a proud Famularo marrying two hot chicks of different races, Famurlaro’s ain’t go no time for racism}
Well, A Night to Remember is certainly going to be one for the ages, one of the biggest cards, some amazing former superstars and many who will continue forth to be the future of wrestling somewhere else. I cannot even put into words how difficult it has been, I have tried so many times to plan out what to say here, or think of the perfect way to tear Davey Ortega apart but I realize that in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really matter does it. What matters is that above all the fans get a last amazing show, one for the ages, one that will be remembered and one that will cement the legacy of ncw forever.
Davey, when I come to our match, I am playing for keeps. I am not going to let the last memory of Xander being on the losing end to some guy who is trying to finally get some glory. I mean, the term reliving your former glory doesn’t even apply to you because to relive something it had to have happened in the first place right Davey. What you have this weekend is a chance, a chance to erase the memory of you that everyone has, a chance to eliminate the stereotype of underachiever that has plagued you career. You have a chance to go out on top, defeating a man who was rated one of the top five ncw superstars of all time, the only man to go a year without losing a singles match and one of the few two time ncw world champions.
So what are you going to do Davey? Are you going to use this week to help propel your future? Are you going to try and use this match with me as a catapult to find another place to perhaps forge out a destiny of your own? Or are you going to give it the “Davey Ortega” treatment, coming to the ring uninspired like a poorly performed STF? Are you going to walk to the ring without a care in the world, face off against the best wrestler you have faced and get the **** pounded out of you like you have so many times in the past.
Davey, I challenge you to come ready for a war, I challenge you to be the very best wrestler that you are capable of. I challenge you to be ready to face the person that hasn’t been able to get booked for the past two months because no one wants to face him. I challenge you to give me a challenge, and not just to roll over.
Take the rustic path Davey, life isn’t always peaches and crème sometimes you have to challenge the unchallengeable, sometimes you have to knock on the door to heaven and if they won’t allow you in, you barge your way in.
Davey, I wish you luck, because you are going to need it. I am not one to make threats because this is only a wrestling match, but if you come unprepared or unfocused, you are going to leave this place on a stretcher.
See you Sunday
