Have you ever stopped to wonder what the difference between you and I really was?
I mean have you ever just really gave it any thought?
Here let me help you out.
The difference is pretty clear in the final moments of NCW... you care way too much about little unimportant things. You care too much about beating me, about getting that one victory against Adam Knite. What does it matter Ace? Really. Think about it. Why is this so important to you? Do you really think this is going to change everything. You're a three time National Champion, you're in the hall of fame... get over it already. The difference between you and I is that I don't care. I don't give a damn about this match other than it's a nice throwback to a great NCW feud.
That's it.
Nothing more.
It is a nice present day flashback to the times when NCW was still a young up and coming company looking to make it's name on the world. You focus too much on the little crap Ace. You would think a man who portrays himself as having the perfect life, wife, and children would be more content with all the things he's managed to accomplish in his life, but yet here he is, still dwelling on his past inadequacies, unable to just move on with his life, unable to forget about the times that he's failed.
You realize a lot of people would say that kind of obsession is unhealthy Ace.
You should just move on with your life Jake. There is no reason to be stuck on this one thing no reason to have this eating away at you. Look as much as I enjoy seeing you in torment and pain this isn’t what you deserve. You made the NCW Hall of Fame because you’re a hell of a fighter. you’re not me, you’re not on my level, but so what? That doesn’t have to stop you from viewing your time in NCW as a complete success.
Who cares if I’m better than you?
Really? I claim a lot to be the best wrestler in the world, and that’s fine and all but we all really know that there is always somebody out there better than us, we know that you can never really be “the best” all the time. Alex Jones could never beat me, Angel I don’t think has many wins against me, and neither do you.... so what? Why do you care so much? Why does this hurt you so much?
What do you want me to say here Ace? Do you want me to come out and act like “The King of NCW” and tell you how you’re nothing but a peon under my foot? This isn’t a time for that, this isn’t about you and I, this is all about NCW and celebrating the history of this company. I don’t care if you are putting your entire life on the line to win this match, because to me it isn’t about you, none of this is about you or beating you.
I could stand here and tell you how you’re nothing and have never beaten me inside an NCW ring... but it would be pointless. If I win this match... it’s going to be bittersweet, because NCW will still be fading away thirty minutes later... and if I lose... the same outcome. There isn’t like there is a single thing I’m fighting for here... I’m just going out there and facing the man that I’ve fought more times than I can count, the man whom my fights with made me a household name... there isn’t anything for me to point at and say... that’s my reason for this match... that involves you... everything is about what made NCW great in my eyes.
and there is the difference. That is what separates a king from somebody like you.
I know when things are bigger than me and what I want.
I know when things are more important than my selfish desires.
That’s why NCW is closing, that’s why I’m walking away for a while.
Because I know there are things out there that are bigger than me... that mean more to me than wrestling...
You act like you have this perfect life...
and soon enough... I’ll be living one.
The difference between you and I is...
I don’t need this.
------PRESENT DAY-ish------
[Kelly lays on the doctor's office table with her growing belly exposed and her hand tightly clutching the hand of her husband. Adam looks at the sonogram monitor that is above Kelly's head, which is obviously not working as nothing is touching Kelly's stomach, but he stares anyway, nervously.]
“What are you so nervous about? You're hand is shaking.”
“You're hoping for a little boy aren't you?”
[Adam doesn't say a word, instead he just smiles from ear to ear as he holds Kelly's hand tighter. Kelly lightly giggles as she looks up at her husband and then down at her stomach where her star tattoos are already starting to stretch.]
“Just dont’ go getting your hopes up and end up disappointed in the end.”
“It’s going to be your and I’s child, I won’t be disappointed about anything. As long as he is healthy then I’m happy.”
“He or she.”
“Yeah that.”
[Kelly smiles as she shakes her head, the nurse comes back in and is ready to get this underway as she puts the warm liquid on Kelly’s stomach and starts the ultrasound.]
Nurse: “Everything looks good, your baby looks to be in good health. So are we wanting to know the sex today?”
Adam: “...”
Kelly: “He’s waiting on pins and needles hoping it’s a boy.”
Nurse: “Well then, lets see what we can find out then.... alrighty here’s a leg, here’s another leg.. and that right there... that’s ‘not a leg’.”
[Adam’s eyes go wide with excitement as he stares at the image on the computer monitor, Kelly laughs as she watches him pull his hand away and throw a fist pump into the air.]
“It’s a boy! YES! I’m going to have a son!”
[Adam in his excitment leans down and grabs Kelly by the sides of her head and begins to kiss her all over, much to Kelly’s amusement as evidenced by her laughter. Kelly finally pushes Adam off her, and fights back the giggles as she talks.]
“Adam get off me and let the woman do her job *laughs*”
“I can’t help it, this is great!”
[The nurse finishes up and leaves the room for a minute, leaving Adam and Kelly there to look at the pictures. Kelly sits up in the bed smiling at Adam pointing at the poor childs little tinker toy. She reaches down and grabs Adam’s hands and pulls them up to chest height as she stares at her husband, Adam lifts his head and looks at her confused.]
“What’s wrong?”
“Adam... are you sure we’re doing the right thing?”
“What do you mean? WIth the baby? We don’t have any other choice at this point.”
“I meant with NCW crazy!”
“Oh that... again.”
[Adam stops and thinks about what Kelly has just asked for what has to be at least 2.3 seconds before he turns back to look at her and nods his head.]
“Yes.”
“How can you be so positive about this? I mean we’re throwing away something that took six years to build. What about Ryleigh and our son? Are they going to taken care of, I don’t know what to do here Adam... what are we going to do?”
[Adam looks his wife in the eyes with a comforting look again, he smiles letting her know everything is going to be fine before he even says a word. Kelly sheepishly turns her head, Adam kinda enjoys seeing her show some weakness for once.]
“Everything is going to be fine Kelly. I wouldn’t do anything that I thought wasn’t the best choice for you, Ryleigh, and Ethan. We always come out on top... one way or another.”
[Kelly smiles, obviously a bit nervous but she does nod her head anyway as Adam pulls her hands to his lips and gives this a soft gentle kiss with his lips before we fade to black.]
I love NCW.
To even doubt how much I love this company is completely bat **** insane.
Nobody has given more to this company than I have, behind the scenes in front of the camera, whatever I have given NCW my entire life since before Leonard owner the company.
I also love my family, I would never do a single thing if I thought for a second that it wasn’t going to be the best possible thing for them. I’ve devoted myself to Kelly and making her the center of my world, I love Ryleigh and now my unborn son Ethan, more than I could even begin to express in this promo. To doubt that is just being totally ignorant. That or just looking for an excuse to sound cool by saying something so off the wall to try and troll for a reaction, which I will not give the pleasure to. It’s a simple fact, I love and care about what happens to them, more than I care about myself, more than I care for anything on this planet.
The closing of NCW has nothing to do with my love for it, it’s the fact that sometimes things just run their natural course and we felt it was time to pack it up and take some time away. That’s why we made sure every person on this roster was given an opportunity for a contract at two other promotions, that’s why we helped set up another federation for all of our guys to go to and wouldn’t be out of jobs long. You think somebody who doesn’t care would do that?
The facts are that...
I’m tired. Ryleigh is three years old, we have another child on the way, and I just want to rest. I made sure all of you had places to go, I made sure each of you could carry on with your NCW histories mattering, that’s why IWF was formed, for the sole purpose of giving you a place where you didn’t have to start over with a blank slate, but at the same time could make a new history for yourselves.
That is where you should be worrying about where your legacy is going to end up Jake.
That is where you need to focus your attention.
Not in a closing wrestling promotion against a man who is tiring of the sport altogether.
I will give you the match of your life Jake, just like I always have. I won’t come out there and treat this like just any other match because that would be silly to even imply. This is special, this is possibly the final meeting between Adam Knite and The Ace. The final showdown between two mega powers who were two of the biggest rivals in NCW’s history. That’s why I will fight, that’s why I will give this match everything I have left in the tank, because it means something to NCW.
It doesn’t mean a damn thing to me personally.
I specifically requested that your National title not be on the line for that reason.
I don’t want anything from this match other than the joy of entertaining the NCW crowd one more time, with a rivalry that was destined to end this way.
Never question my devotion to this company, never doubt how much I really do care. I’m the king of this wrestling company for a reason. Kings who don’t give a crap about their kingdoms rarely prosper.
There is no reason for me to beat you, I gain no bragging rights for this win, i gain no titles for this victory and I sure as hell don’t need one more win ticked off in my win column to make me feel accomplished in this company. There is literally nothing that I’m fighting for... other than the spirit of NCW.
This isn’t a fight, this isn’t any match... this is a celebration.
The sooner you can realize that, the sooner you can move past this hangup of having to beat Adam Knite, and maybe the closer you get to actually winning.
For one final time Jake...
Deal with it.
------LATER THAT DAY------
[Adam is in the drivers seat of Kelly’s car as she sits in the passenger seat with the seat leaned back and her feet up on the dash, relaxing. Adam looks out the windows, almost as if he’s lost in this part of Dallas before he unexpectedly stops. Kelly leans up and looks around, in complete confusion.]
“Where are we?”
“Come on, get out lets look around.”
“What are you...”
[Kelly doesn’t have time to finish her thought because Adam is already out the door. She jumps up and makes her way towards him where he’s standing in front of a large brick two story home. Kelly looks at him with her eye cocked, still completely confused.]
“That’s a beautiful house isn’t it?”
“It’s gorgeous. What are we doing here?”
“This is a nice house. Lets go in.”
[Kelly’s eyes go wide in shock.]
“Are you crazy!?”
[Adam walks up the nice walk way leading to the front door and Kelly quickly follows as best she can in her current state. Adam gets to the door and tries to turn the brass handle but it’s clearly locked.]
“Adam have you snapped? You can’t just barge in here... see, it’s locked.”
“Well it’s a good thing I have a key.”
[Adam opens the door, after unlocking the door, and walks into the house and a baffled Kelly follows, slowly starting to realize what is going on here. When they are inside and staring at the dark hard wood floors and off white walls Kelly begins to tear up.]
“Adam you didn’t...”
“Maybe.”
“This is amazing... it’s huge...”
“Well you were saying that our apartment was getting to be a bit small. There are seperate rooms for the kids, a huge backyard with an underground pool, and even a room upstairs for Zelda.”
[Kelly begins breathing heavily, she puts her hand on her chest and just looks around taking it all in. She turns to Adam and tries to fight the tears of joy in her eyes. Suddenly Zelda comes sliding down the banister on the staricase that leads up stairs and is down next to the couple. She looks very excited.]
“Oh my God Kelly, do you love it!?”
“I do.”
“It’s amazing... I call dibs on the first lap around the pool!”
[Zelda starts to sprint off but stops.]
“Oh yeah, Ryleigh is in one of the kids rooms asleep... bye.”
[She does sprint off this time, and a still visually shocked Kelly turns to look at Adam who is smiling from ear to ear.]
“I just wanted to prove to you that everything was going to be fine. I love you more than words can express, I will do anything to make sure that you’re taken care of and that our family grows with everything they could ever want. I would never do anything to jeopardize that and .... we’re going to be ok.”
[Kelly nods her head.]
“I know.”
[She steps forward and the two meet in an embrace with Kelly resting her head on Adam’s chest as Adam presses her tightly against himself. The two stand like that for several seconds before they pull slightly apart, just enough for them to start kissing for a short moment. Adam looks Kelly in her eyes, and Kelly looks into Adam’s and the two share what is possibly the last thing we’ll ever see them say to each other on NCW Television...]
Both: “I love you.”
[We fade to black, one last time.]
Goodbye, my friend, goodbye
My love, you are in my heart.
It was preordained we should part
And be reunited by and by.
