Scene up on some kind of local gym located somewhere in around Phoenix. It wasn’t to big in size and it really didn’t look like it was frequented to often. But it had one of those humble appearances to it. Nothing to fancy, not to over the top. Just a straight gym. Witch is why it was strange that your beloved tag team champions had decided to work out there. They had just finished there reps and were sipping there waters in the locker room. Both men were unusually quiet as they sat on the bench. Probably just a lot of things on there minds. Mainly this upcoming pay per view. Both men have a big challenge to step up too this Sunday.
“I see you pushed up a few more reps out there. Getting ready for the big Coliseum match?”
Ace nods his head as he finishes another gulp from his water.
“You better believe it. I’ve been doing everything I can to make sure I’m ready for it. Too bad you didn’t make the cut.”
Awesome smirks as he reaches into a locker and pulls out a t-shirt. Sliding it over his head and down his chest.
“Pfft, why would I want to fight in a giant cage filled with steel and chains and five other guys who want to use them on me? All for a chance at a title I’m bound to win eventually anyway? I’ll pass thank you.”
Ace raises his eyebrows and nods. You could tell he never exactly thought about it that way.
“Good point.”
Awesome nods. Fixing his hair in the reflection of his sunglasses.
“Besides, I’m way to pretty to fight in a match like that anyways.”
“Yeah. You got your hands full enough as it is with Reckless Jack.”
This makes Awesome smile. He has been waiting for another opportunity to face Jack in the ring.
“Here’s a fun fact. Jack and I are tied at one win a piece and a draw. This match should be the rubber match I’ve been waiting for.”
“Too bad your going to lose it.”
This comment catches the blast of class off guard. His green eyes dart in the direction of his tag team partner.
“Wait…what?”
“Jack is in that Age of The Revolution thing now. Anybody who faces them end up with the numbers stacked against them. When you face Jack and his goons it’s rarely a fair fight.”
Awesome just shrugs. Letting the obvious threat just fall off his shoulders like he normally did.
“Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been jumped by a bunch of self important jackasses. Won’t be the last either I’m sure.”
Awesome said as he messed around inside his locker. Turning his back to his partner. But Ace stands up and places a hand on Steve’s shoulder.
“Well you know it doesn’t have to end up like that. I’ll have your back if need be.”
Awesome turns around, facing his partner with a waving index finger.
“No, no dude. I can’t have you risking your health before your big match. If Jack and his boyfriends decide they want to jump me this Sunday then so be it. But I’m just going to do what I can to make sure the match is done and over with before that happens.”
“Yeah well….big match or not I have your back. Whether you like it or not. No group of zealots with daddy issues is going to jump my tag partner without having to deal with me as well. We are in this together bro.”
Ace glares at his friend in a way that shows Steve he meant what he said and there wasn’t much that he could do about it. Ace extends his arm for a handshake and Steve accepts with a grin.
“Yeah. I figured as much.”
In that moment the sparkle from The Ace’s wedding ring catches the light and Steve’s attention.
“So your really getting married?”
Ace looks down at his ring affectionately.
“Yup. I have to say dude, I’ve never been this happy before in my life.”
He says with a look that emphasizes that feeling. Awesome looks to be impressed.
“I never thought I’d see the day. Jake Conway is getting married. I still remember going out to the clubs in the towns where we would wrestle and have our fun with any chick who gave us a wink. You remember those blonde twins in the mini skirt?
Ace laughs.
“Some of the best times in my life bro. But I love her. And no cute blonde with a nice butt is going to come between her and I.”
“So does that mean no more late nights partying at the nightclubs?”
Steve says with a look of fear in his eyes.
“Well I didn’t say that. I’m getting married…..not dieing. So when are you going to tie the knot?
Steve backs up.
“Me get married? Yeah right.”
He says indignantly.
“You ever at least think about it? I mean it’s probably going to happen eventually. What about Layla?”
“She’s cool I guess but lets not jump to anything ridiculous here. I’m not really the husband type."
“So your never going to get married?”
“Well maybe one day."
He conceades.
"But not anytime soon that’s for sure. I’m just waiting for the right girl.”
Ace stares at his partner.
“Dude. You’ve been with countless girls.”
Steve chuckles.
“Yeah but none of them have been the right one. Just the right one at that moment if you catch my drift.”
He elbows his partner playfully.
“Spare me the details. Your scared of commitment aren’t you? You just can’t bring yourself to actually love somebody can you? Dude you have to settle down eventually otherwise your going grow up old and alo-”
“Can we please talk about something else?”
Steve says quickly ending the topic at hand.
“……Like Reckless Jack or something.”
“What about him?”
Ace says. Complying with his partners request.
“I’m going to kick his ass.”
“Good.”
The two continue to talk as they walk out of the room.
“You know I was all set to cut a promo on you Jack. I was already to stand here and rip your life to shreds. I was going to look into this camera lens and tell you about how much you suck. Maybe toss in a has been crack in there. Say how crazy you are with this whole saint thing and then explain how I would kick your ass this Sunday then end it with one of those flashy catchphrases of mine.”
Steve Awesome stands in what appears to be your basic nCw backdrop. His green eyes glaring out from underneath a black zip up hoodie. Unzipped of course revealing a Tom Petty T-shirt and his nCw tag team title around his waste.
“I would have done all that but to be honest with you dude, I don’t think I could say all that with a straight face. I could say it until I’m blue in the face but the world knows that you Reckless Jack do not suck. As a matter of fact I’d say you were anything but. I mean you’ve been a world champion all over the world. Well….except GWC….ain’t that right K-Hard?”
Your hero grins before continuing.
“I guess what I’m really trying to get at here is that as a wrestler, I guess I respect you. I guess that I should give the devil his due and say that your one of the better people I’ve ever seen step foot in that ring out there. I know what I’m up against this Sunday. So I was going to sit here and wish you good luck but also politely inform you that I was going to give you my best shot and not hold anything back. Since you know we are still technically even since you know……
He arrogantly stops to look around to see if anybody was listening. Then leans forward cupping his hand around his mouth as if to tell a secret.
“You couldn’t beat me before.”
He backs up with a smirk on his face. That same “your beneath me” look that’s obviously directed at Reckless Jack. Wherever he was at this instant it definitely got a reaction out of him.
“But then you had to go and open your mouth, Jack. You had to go and explain how much you hate me. Like I’m the daddy that never cared. You had to explain all the things you hate about me like I’m the bitch that left. And it hurt me Jack. To know that you just hate me. I mean I actually liked you, dude. I thought this whole Age of The Revolution thing was interesting. It was peaking my interest watching you three beat up on all those other douche bags I don’t like. Very scary “thing” you got going there.”
He pauses for a moment.
“But I’ll be damned if I’m all of a sudden an object of hatred for you and your anti-social buddies. I don’t know why you don’t like me. I mean I just like living my life. I like to spend the money I earn on having some fun. Flying in jets, riding in limos, running from the paparazzi, going to the parties, driving fast cars and running with even faster women. And you three hate me because of all that? You know I don’t really care if you hate me but that sounds a little less like hate and bit more like jealousy. You envious bastards.”
His smirk just beaming. You can see the reflection of the lights on his sunglasses.
“But no matter how much I’d like to just walk down that ramp at Sovereign and show you exactly why you couldn’t beat me before, I know that it’s not going to be a fair fight. Regardless of what you say Jack, I know that your goons are never lurking too far behind. And I know that you’d do anything you could to ensure that you get a shot at this.”
He rubs the title belt that’s fastened around his waste.
“So if your plan is to jump me to get the victory like a lot of your past shows it doesn’t matter. I say bring them on but don’t be surprised if one or two of you go down with me. But if you want to make this a fair fight and settle our little dispute like men then I’d be happy to meet you in that ring this Sunday. And when I win, maybe me and Ace will still give you a shot at the straps. If your good.”
Static
As Steve Awesome walks off the set, Layla comes walking up. She is excited and she leaps onto her boyfriend with a hug.
“Oh my goodness babe. That was a great promo.”
He grins as he hugs her back.
“If your good. It just came to me.”
They loosen the hug and lean back but keep a hold of each other at the waste. They look into each others eyes.
“I love you.”
She says, quietly but loud enough to hear it.
And this......just blows his mind. He remains silent for a minute or two just to let his mind process.
"Did you hear what I said?"
He nods his head slowly.
"Well do you have something to say back?"
"I uh......I think....... I left.......... something in my car. Be right back."
Awesome bails out of the door and in a window you can see him hop inside a limo and leave. One of the cameramen walk up to console Layla as she watches her boyfriend leave and starts to cry.
"What am I going to do now?"
She says in tears.
Cameraman: "It's going to be okay. He just needs some time to think."
"No....that was my ride home."
She buries her head in her hands as the scene switches to...
static.
For real this time.
