There are some powers in this world that can't be explained. Some powers that can't be understood or sometimes even recognised, so subtle their movements and actions may be. There are peoples in this world who suffer... no.. suffer is the wrong word.. who endure the same such characteristics. In their dealings they may find people who claim to understand or explain them but what they do understand and what is explainable are only very surface facets of the whole being. Even those who are completely open with their feelings are often misread. Doubts are cast, people are unsure of the motives for such behaviour and emotions. But then... everything changes. When you put a man inside a box... when he's placed within an awfully specific box.. people are shocked when he jumps right out and behaves as any other man outside the box. Some people just can't be categorised... some people just can't be predicted. Some people... are a lot better at what they do than anyone would ever have predicted.
*The road is dark. Of course there's the street lighting but the poitn is that it's night time. The street is dry which is unusual for a promo like this. Most people like to give the heartfelt speech as they stand out in the rain. Footsteps can be heard as a couple walk along the pavement.*
"Life goes on. It's a concept wasted on many people, especially those in our business... but the truth is that life goes on. The will to live, the desire to exist.. it's one of the strongest forces in the entirety of creation. No one knows for certain what's coming after... some believe in some theories more than others but the truth is that unless you are actually dead, you cannot know for sure. The point is that no one wants to even find out until they've done all they want to in life before it's all over. Every man has his dreams. Those that don't are liars or truly the lost ones of our society. Some people dream of materialistic posessions... some of more real treasures.. a family, that kind of thing. Some people dream only or recognition.. simply of being seen and rewarded for their efforts. Some... well... they just dream of tomorrow. And then there's men like me.. who dream of all of that. Maybe not so much the materialistic posessions but hey... 3 out of 4's not bad. And for now... I can indulge the fourth. As part of the recognition I do want that heavyweight belt round my waist. My usual belt's starting to look a little ragged now.. a nice gold one would be lovely."
*The camera starts to catch up with the people walking along the pavement. Their sillhouettes cast upon the city backdrop. One is a man, wearing a 3/4 length coat with fairly short har, and he walks beside a heavy set woman wearing a dress of some sort.*
"But I dream of tomorrow this night. I dream of it more than I have ever dreamed of any day in my life.. save only the day of my marriage to Melanie. Because tomorrow evening, I step forward for three very special occasions. It's my first match for the nCw heavyweight title, only my second heavyweight title match ever... and if that wasn't enough my match is also against Lance Ryan, one of the best to step into the ring anywhere. I'm stepping into this match that will be one of the greatest to be ever shown ever. Two men, just doing what they do best.. doing it so much better than everyone else in sight. Everything else is a matter of circumstance but the heavyweight gold kicker makes this just that little bit mroe special... And thirdly.. I'm stepping forward.. into Lance Ryan's final match. Not potentially final match.. absolute, final match. That's not a threat... that's confidence. I know what I'm capable of, Lance knows what I'm capable of, otherwise he wouldn't even be entertaining the idea that I'm the man that will retire him. I know Lance will say otherwise.. say that he's still got it and that while I'm a talented young man, I'm still just not as good as he... but I know that's not what he really thinks. Not unless he really was playing mind games with his recent comments... but I don't want to go down that road again... we'll see how it goes with that."
*The camera finally catches up to the couple properly. It's Dave Holland and Melanie Holland-Black. They stop momentarily under a light to share a kiss.*
Dave: Thanks for tonight. I really needed it.
Melanie: It's just a meal away from the hotel. Nothing too special.
Dave: I know... but with everything that's been going on around me, I just needed to clear my head.
Melanie: Then, you're welcome.
*Dave kisses her again.*
Dave: God, you're beautiful.
Melanie: I know.
*With a smile she places Dave's arm about her shoulders as they continue walking again. Dave lets his mind wander again.*
"She is beautiful... They say behind every great man is a great woman. It's not always true but in my case.. it's definately true. She's been so good to me recently.. put up with everything I've done in nCw.. stuck by me as I reigned over the tag division, cared for me when Milo left.. helped me come to terms with being alone again and realise that I actually wasn't. Dealing with me coming home bruised and tired every night as I fought the Revolution... just being their with a damp sponge for the nights when blood had been drawn. The little things.. just listening when I need to vent, talking me through it when I'm too tired to think. Reminding me that no matter how hard life gets.. how tough the opposition becomes.. how stifled and persecuted I may feel there are places in this world where they can't touch. There are things that are completely immune to their influence. Inside. Deep within. Places made, not of stone or steel. Places that can't be visited at will but are gone to instinctively when they are most needed. Places built of hope and belief. Places that will become all the mroe important as I stand across the ring from my greatest challenge in my adult life."
Melanie: What're you thinking about?
Dave: Nothing.
Melanie: Liar... You're thinking about the match.
"Damn.. I forgot I could never hide anything from her."
Dave: Yeah... I'm sorry.
Melanie: It's ok. It's natural to be nervous about a fight.
Dave: Woah, woah, woah. Nervous? I'm not nervous. Worst case scenario, I lose the match and life will go on as it did before, but I will have at least attempted what many men are never permitted to do. What I feel is anxiety. I'm edgy.. I want to get it done and over with one way or the other. I can't stand the waiting is all... There is absolutely no fear involved at all.
Man: Maybe there should be... don't move.
*From nowhere there has suddenly appeared a pair of thugs. The man that spoke has drawn a knife. Dave instinctively steps in front of Melanie, shielding her and his child from any attack that may come.*
Man: Give me your money.. and her jewellry!
Dave: You picked the wrong person.
Melanie: Dave! Don't..!
*Dave squeezes Melanie's hand gently to assure her he knows what he's doing.*
Dave: Do you know who I am?
Man: No.. and I don't care. You're either going to be a man who just got robbed.. or a man who just got stabbed and then robbed. Now, the cash.. now!
Man 2: Wait a minute... I know you.
Man: You do?
Man 2: yeah, man.. Dave Holland... nCw..?
Man: Yeah? So you're a wrestler huh? Big fake dancer being worshipped by people who don't know any better.
Dave: Sounds familiar.
Man: Maybe I should do Ryan a favour and skewer your ass right here!
Dave: You could, I won't deny it. But for one thing.
man: What's that?
Dave: Him.
*Dave points to the right. The two guys look as does the camera... but there's nothing there. The camera quickly looks back as do the men to a confused Dave Holland who's still looking that way.*
Man: Nice Try Holland.
Dave: I could've sworn he was... Oh.. no.. there he is.
*Dave points to the left and the men look but the camera doesn't have time to as straight from the left comes charging Terry tate. He tackles the guy in the background to the floor. This distracts the man with the knife long enough for Dave to spig into action. He grabs the arm holding the knife and strikes a pressure point releasing the knife to the ground. He pushes the man back before nailing a Magic Touch on him, sending him to the ground unconcious.
Moments later the sound of sirens can be heard as a police car pulls up.*
Dave: Still think it's fake?
Terry: WOOO! This **** just got real!
Dave: Language, Terry.
Terry: Sorry Mr Holland... was just caught up in the moment.
*Dave turns to Melanie and is met with a vicious slap to the face. Dave rolls with it instinctively before looking back witha look of shock and upset.*
Melanie: I told you not to do that! How could you be so.. so.. idiotic, maverick.. so reckless.. so stupid...
*She kisses him. As she pulls away the upset is gone but he's still shocked and now a little confused.*
Melanie: So.. heroic. Thank you.
*Melanie starts to walk away. As she does so and the cops take away the two men, Terry stands beside Dave. He half shouts after her.*
Dave: Ok, what the hell?
Terry: Women... the final great mystery of the universe.
*Dave now shoots a confused glance at Terry.*
Terry: I mean.. err... WOOOO!
*Dave and Terry walk to catch up to Melanie as the camera looks up to the skyline and away from the scene*
"I don't know for certain what tomorrow will bring. No one does. But we can all hope that tomorrow will bring joy and happiness. Those who rely on tomorrow will never see it... and so I have to make tomorrow into today. Make what will be into what is. Everyone talks about me being the future of this company.. being the future of wrestling. I don't want to be the future... I don't want to be some old man limping down to the ring after too many injuries, with skin sagging from my flabby or skeletal physique, using the same old tired moveset just for the nostalic pleasures of fans who weren't there when I wrestled for real. I don't want to be wrestling to hear people saying I should give up. And the truth is that while I am the future.. what people don't want to realise is that the future is now. Tomorrow is the the first day of a new era.. an era that has been looming for a long time and now... just over 24 years from when my path was chosen for me.. I will accomplish the feat many said I would never do.. but many many more said I will one day do. Tomorrow.. will become today. The future will become the present.. and the winds of change will blow fiercly for one more night. Of 5 competitors who have seriously contended for that belt.. 2 have won it. When I take the belt from Lance Ryan, I will make it an even 50%. It's a fraction that doesn't do the belt justice but I can fix that myself in the months to come."
*The camera starts to speed the ascent. The stars begin to shine and then hurtle past the camera. This shouldn't be possible without some form of space shuttle but it is.*
"Because I am pushed on by the forces within and the forces without. The crowd chanting my name, willing me on.. silently begging me to come through.. signs reading 'Dave Holland, Please Don't Die' among others. I've seen many but that one stuck in my mind when I saw it. Pushed on by the same traits I have talked about all week. Defiance against the Revolution, whether Lance wants to be a part of it or not.. The will to never give up.. never fail.. never fall.... And the greatest, most powerful thing in the world. Hope. Hope that Lance is telling the truth when he spoke to us last... Hope that together we will put on the greatest match to ever be witnessed without some manner of crazy gimmick... Hope.. that I will be World Champion before my son is born. That when he opens his eyes and sees his father for the first time.. he will know that he is born of greatness... and greatness will follow him throughout his life."
*The stars have all passed out as the camera turns back to face the world beneath, now a blue circle below upon a black backdrop. The black soon turns to gold and we can see that the circle is the picture of the earth upon the world championship belt. Once the belt is in full view, the faces of Dave Holland and Lance Ryan appear on either side, staring at each other, facing off across the screen before the big match.*
"The hope that you will realise what I offer you. The service I am doing for you and the whole of nCw. Either you will once again reassert that you deserve to be champion... that the belt is around the right man for the right job... or it will be handed to the right man. I believe that I am the right man... I hope that I'm the right man... it's up to you to prove me wrong."
*The shot stays as it is as the scene ends.*
*The road is dark. Of course there's the street lighting but the poitn is that it's night time. The street is dry which is unusual for a promo like this. Most people like to give the heartfelt speech as they stand out in the rain. Footsteps can be heard as a couple walk along the pavement.*
