~*~*~They say that the loss of a loved one can change anyone. They say that that experience is like none other that you can experience in the span of your life. This is the experience that everyone dreads and yet everyone must face within their lifetimes, much more than once, and much more than you could ever hope for. Death sadly is a part of life, an untimely end is something that everyone must face, and no matter how young or old you are when you go, you will always have goals and experiences that you did not accomplish.~*~*~
~*~*~For almost a year now it has been debatable but not really questionable that Lance Ryan has been the cornerstone of nCw. He has held the World Title for more time between his two reigns than any other wrestler. He was recognized as the first hall of famer in nCw history, and he has indeed beaten anyone and everyone that has come across his path. It has been said that Lance truly fears no man and is afraid of no fight. Lance is one of the true blue performers left in the wrestling industry that goes out to entertain regardless of that means cheers or boos, and goes out to put on the greatest show possible. It isn’t about winning or losing for Lance anymore, it is simply about doing what he loves and helping others to improve their crafts and perform at a higher level.~*~*~
~*~*~Another signature of Lance Ryan however is drama. It seems that no matter how much he strives ahead in his life, there is always that obstacle standing in his path. The obstacles that tend to throw him off his kilter are not the competitive kind, but the emotional kind. We have seen this many times throughout his nCw career even. In his year here, Lance has had a child, had his girlfriend leave him with his child, had his older son track him down, and now he is faced with truly the most difficult obstacle yet, the loss of his father figure, his grandfather, John Ryan. Lance has been preparing for the past month now for what many are calling his most difficult challenge to date, his World Title match against Trent Helms and Steve Awesome. These two men are men that epitomize the wrestlers that Lance Ryan tries to create. Two men that put everything on the table, two men that hang it all out for everyone to see and two men that will never hold anything back, two men that could easily walk away from Picture Perfect as the new nCw Champion and the future of this company. All of this however has taken a backseat mentally in Lance’s life however as he watched a very close man pass away three weeks ago. His son Jamie passed on the news to wrestlers, wrestling fans and everyone at the same time…Lance is missing. He has been missing mentally for three weeks now, but more importantly he has been missing physically since he last cut a promo from the gravesite of his late grandfather. For a man that has been citing the fact that he will now be a family man this is frightening. From a man that vows that he learned how to love from his grandfather, this is downright scary. Lance Ryan has not been seen for nearly half a week now, and the greatest worry is not that he will not show up at Picture Perfect, but rather what has happened to the man himself. The wrestling world is holding it’s breathe in hopes that the nCw Champion will resurface and whether mentally capable to wrestle or not, be alright.~*~*~
~*~*~Matthew Ryan is sitting at a kitchen table and is surrounded by Jamie and Zell, who is sitting in his high chair. The table has multiple cell phones on it and papers spread out everywhere. Matthew and Jamie are showing the effects of sleep deprivation as they have dark bags under their eyes.~*~*~[/i]
Matthew: This is really starting to concern me. I mean for a few days I figured that perhaps he decided that he needed some time to himself to deal with all of this, but now it is growing into a real concern. In all of the years of my life I have seen Lance take a day or two in solidarity, but never has he disappeared for four days without giving so much as a word. I’m really starting to worry about where he is, what he’s doing…you know? All of this talk about family and how important it is, and yet he doesn’t even bother to call us and let him know what’s up. Where on earth could he possibly be?
Jamie Ryan: I have no idea. I keep watching that last promo that he did before he disappeared. I mean, he seemed to be doing alright, he kept talking about how he was going to come back strong, how he needed to do what he loved and how he realized more than ever how important his family is and how important life is. I see nothing that showed that he was in any more distress than he had been in the days leading up. He even said that he was about to go on a tear and that the world was about to see a Lance Ryan that they hadn’t seen in a long time. He said that his star was about to become a supernova…
~*~*~This last word makes Matthew look up at Jamie and he has an ashen look on his face.~*~*~[/i]
Jamie Ryan: What? What did I say?
Matthew Ryan: Supernova. He said that he was going to become a supernova. Do you realize what that means?
Jamie Ryan: A supernova is a star that explodes and fades out…****…why didn’t I see that before? None of what he said before that even matters…he was saying that he felt like he had exploded and it was now his time to fizzle out. But…what does that mean?
~*~*~Without answering Jamie, Matthew picks up the phone and dials a number. There is a pause and then Matthew quickly asks someone if they can come and look after Zell for a bit. Matthew hangs up the phone. He looks over at Jamie.~*~*~[/i]
Matthew Ryan: Grab your coat Jamie, I am pretty sure I know where he is, at least I hope that I know where he is, because if he isn’t there, the outcome of this could be brutal.
~*~*~There seems to be a cut in the tape and the screen fades to snow. Suddenly we hear some music playing and the lyrics come up on a black screen.~*~*~
I was scared in a moment
You went in a blaze.
I felt so helpless
being so far away.
The skeleton frame
is holding my memories.
And God only knows now
what's ahead of me.
~*~*~Finally as if spliced back in we now see Matthew and Jamie standing at a front desk of some establishment and Matthew is waiting for someone to come to the desk. After about a minute a man comes up and he is dressed in all blue, like that of an orderly.~*~*~[/i]
Orderly: Hi there. Can I help you?
Matthew: I hope so. We are looking to locate my brother, and I have a good feeling that he may in fact be here. Do you have a patient by the name of Lance Ryan?
~*~*~The orderly looks down at a book in front of him and flips through a few of the pages. He stops and then looks up at Matthew.~*~*~[/i]
Orderly: Yes we do. I can go and get one of our doctors if you would like to speak with him, I am unsure if your brother is willing or able to take guests at this time.
Matthew: That would be great. We will have a seat here and wait.
~*~*~The orderly nods in agreement and walks off camera. Matthew and Jamie have a seat and Jamie looks inquisitively at Matthew as both men take a sigh of relief at finding Lance.~*~*~[/i]
Jamie: So, now that we can breathe easy and we know where he is, maybe you can tell me how you knew that he would be here? I am trying to piece it all together but I have no idea of his history with this place.
Matthew: It’s a long story, but I can give you an abbreviated version while we wait for the doctor. About ten years ago Lance and I lost our younger brother Joshua after a gang attack. Joshua was left beaten badly and by the time he was found and sent to the hospital, there was nothing that anyone could do to save him. Lance took this very hard because growing up he was always the guardian of Josh and I. He felt responsible for both of us, since our parents were never around. Lance beat himself up mentally and emotionally and I have never seen Lance cry aside from that funeral. After the fact it got so bad that Lance told me that he had failed and that he had two choices, he could either seek help or he was going to kill himself.
~*~*~Matthew stops to let the gravity of his last statement sink in on Jamie, and to make sure that he should continue. Jamie takes a slow swallow but looks at Matthew wanting to hear the rest of the story.~*~*~[/i]
Matthew: I advised him that if he felt that those were his only two options than he should indeed seek help. He looked in the phonebook at some options and when he came across the Psychological Help Unit of Lakeridge Hospital he decided to drive himself here and check himself in for assessment and help. In the end, I truly believe that this place saved his life. He came out renewed and fired up and he learned that it was not his fault and that there was no way that he could control the situation that took Josh’s life. It was when he came out of that hospital that his wrestling career really took off, and he took me with him to manage his career, intent to not let anything happen to me. The bottom line is that when you mentioned that line about the Supernova, I knew…the only time that I ever heard him state that he was feeling like a Supernova was after Josh’s death. He told me that he felt like he was exploding on the inside. That is where his trademarked phrase came from, after that he always looked at his life like a star that was given second life, and he vowed to always let his star shine brightly.
Jamie: I see. So this is bad then?
Matthew: It could be, it could also be very good. The fact that he brought himself here means that he is still in control somewhat, but I think that the death of our grandfather may have brought forth some emotions that haven’t been there for some time now. I am unsure whether to tell you if this is good or bad yet.
~*~*~Jamie rests his head in his hands for a moment and then looks up as a doctor walks into the room. He takes a seat beside Matthew and the two shake hands.~*~*~[/i]
Doctor: Hi there. I understand that you are Lance’s brother. I can’t stay out here for long as I have a couple of patients, but I will give you an idea of what is going on. First of all, it is important to note that Lance brought himself here, just like he did once before. He realized that he was on an emotional downward spiral and he knew that he needed help. That is a great thing. However, he is in rough shape. Since he arrived here he has not spoken more than a few words to anyone, and he has kept to himself, electing to stay in his room rather than to mingle with the other patients. Usually we try to limit the number of guests that our patients have, however given the situation and that he is alone, combined with the condition that he is in, I am willing to let the two of you in to see him. I feel that seeing family may in fact help him along.
Matthew: Ok. That is good news. Is there a timeframe for how long he is in here? I know that it isn’t really a priority but he does have a World Title Match coming up on Sunday, and frankly I simply need to know so that I can inform the company on whether or not Lance will be available.
Doctor: Well…that’s a hard question. Lance is free to come or go as he pleases seeing as he checked himself in here and it seems to be more for his protection rather than the protection of the community at large. Thus, it is my opinion professionally that it would be better if he not leave here that soon, especially to wrestle, but that is strictly his decision and his alone. Now, if you will follow me, I will take you to him.
~*~*~Matthew and Jamie rise to their feet and start to follow the doctor. The scene suddenly splices off again however and we again get a black screen with words.~*~*~
Now words can't describe it.
There was nothing to say.
The ashes have dried now.
They've all been blown away.
I close my eyes
and I try to remember when
the pictures in my head
were all I had again.
~*~*~Again the scene shoots back at us and this time we see Matthew and Jamie standing outside of a large window. The doctor has since taken his leave and the room that they are looking into is nearly pitch black save for a small light that is plugged into the wall and at that it is very dull. The camera zooms in to try and focus and we can only make out a dark silhouette of a man that is sitting on a bed in the corner.~*~*~[/i]
Jamie: This does not look good.
Matthew: You would be shocked actually. Generally when Lance goes solo and introspective it’s a good thing. Of course under the circumstances I am unsure if that will be the case here. I suppose there is only one way to find out.
~*~*~Matthew slowly opens the door to the room and he and Jamie quietly enter followed closely by the camera. Matthew closes the door and the latch makes the shadow of a figure jump to his feet. He then backs into the corner further now and is facing Matthew and Jamie.[/i]
Matthew: Lance, it’s alright. It’s just me, your brother, and your son Jamie. We came to see how you are holding up. Are you doing ok?
~*~*~Lance mutters something incoherently in response.~*~*~[/i]
Jamie: Dad? We have been worried sick about you. Why didn’t you tell any of us where you were going? What you were doing and feeling?
Lance:…Clues…I left clues…discernible clues…
Jamie: Well, I’m glad that we finally followed the trail, you had us concerned all week. When you didn’t show up at Collision we knew something had to be up.
Matthew: I am going to call up Kelly and let her know that you will not be able to wrestle at Picture Perfect and let her know that she needs to make that match a simple one on one bout for the vacated title.
~*~*~This announcement appears to hit Lance and he takes a few steps forward. His face and his visage is still hidden by the dark but he speaks loudly and forcefully.~*~*~[/i]
Lance: Don’t you dare!
Matthew Ryan: Listen, a long time ago you made me your manager and I don’t believe that it is in your best interests to be in that ring on Sunday.
Lance: …never back down…never give up…must go on…Steve and Trent will fall.
~*~*~Matthew seems concerned by the short and somewhat broken speech by his brother and steps forward and tries to rest his hand on Lance’s arm. Lance quickly pulls away and retreats back into the corner. Matthew seems shocked by this reaction and backs up.~*~*~[/i]
Jamie: Dad, is there anything that we can do to help you?
Lance: I will fight…I will win…I must win…the star must continue to shine…
Matthew: Just make sure that the star does not become a Supernova Lance. We are not ready to see you pack it all in. You have a lot to live for, you must live for your children, you must live for me, you must live for your fans and you must live for yourself. You still have so much to give and if you aren’t ready then you need to admit that. There will always be other chances and other times.
~*~*~In the dark we can see Lance straighten up for a moment, showing that he still has the fight in him and the will to be the nCw Champion.~*~*~[/i]
Lance Ryan: This is my time. There is no time like the present for we never know what the future holds, or if we have one. The proof is in Josh and in Grandpa. I am the nCw Champion and I will continue to be the nCw Champion. Trent Helms and Steve Awesome are fantastic talents but they have no idea what it’s like to be the leader of this company. The odds may be stacked against me, the votes may be against my favor, but let’s be honest. Nobody expected me to be ready for Dave Holland, I beat him. Nobody expected me to beat Reckless Jack, I did. Awesome and Helms are just two more names that you can add to the list when the picture comes into perfect view. Nothing can hold me back from my destiny and my destiny is to continue to be the World Champion. The world looks at me now and they see a broken man, a man that is hurting and holding on…Sunday…I remind them why I am the World Champion and why real stars shine in the dark.
~*~*~As if exhausted from his tirade Lance slumps back down onto the bed and again hangs his head low and Matthew and Jamie are left staring at the man that they know as family and we all know as champion.~*~*~[/i]
Matthew: Fair enough. Is there anything else that you want us to do for you? I will tell Kelly that you will be there on Sunday…anything else?
~*~*~Lance again mutters under his breathe and then lies down on the bed. Matthew looks over at Jamie and the two men leave the room, closing the door quietly behind them. The scene again cuts and we again see words run across the screen.
Everything’s been taken from me now
Well I don't believe it.
When everything that you had just leaves
Then you just rise like a Phoenix and fly.[/i]
