Right then, to say I was excited about this would be obvious I've had my tickets for months now, much like I've already got my Rise Against tickets for Feb. But anywho...weirdly enough the closer we got to showtime the more awkward I felt, about me personally and my big gaping scars...I'm the kind of guy that loves to be at the front or in the middle of the pit. Sadly I knew I wouldn't be able to do either, unless I wanted to go to hospital so I ended up being in the disabled section...better safe than sorry, and the view was awesome. First up a little after ten minutes of the doors opening...
BLACK TIDE
These guys were amazing! I mean the music and vocals were top notch anyway (He doesn't sing as amazing as he does on the CD but it's still great) add to the fact he's like 16 or something and the wow factor goes up. Shockwave and Heroes of Time were the big songs that got the crowd hyped, the latter being their final song to cap of an epic opening set (despite the backing mic being quite quiet)
Next up....
BLEEDING THROUGH
Now...listening to these guys they sound like Early A7X + Early KsE + Trivium....you'd expect that to be pretty good right? No...they sucked, it was all just screaming bollocks that could have been anything because nobody could understand him. Don't get me wrong, I like bands that shout and scream, but he was trying too hard to sound like Shadows from A7X meets Jessie Leech former KsE....and then to top it off a son that glorifies suicide? Yeah...you suck...and the music, as generic as a metal band could be. Real let down considering how much Black Tide ruled.
Note: Also he's a dickhead for insulting the people in the balcony, i.e. about 5 or 6 people in a wheelchair, a guy in a damn hospital bed, and a few others including me. Aswell as telling everyone to crowd surf just to slap his hand. Umm...crowd surfing in the Academy = being kicked out...dickface.
Third support...
LACUNA COIL
I was really excited about this because I bought my tickets before they announced the support bands and I'm a Lacuna Coil fan anyway, so seeing them on the same bill was sweet. They came out to the biggest reaction of the night. I honestly don't remember what song they opened with, but they played all my favourites from "Enjoy the Silence" a cover of Depeche Mode, to "Our Truth' which was their end of set song. Christina Scabbia sure as hell has stage precense, even when she's not singing...when she jumped off the stage though to the gap inbetween the stage and crowd...she dissapeared....didn't realise she was so small, lol. Great band, performed flawlessly and realy got the majority of the crowd pumping...except this emo fag poser behind me who cheered like a girl for Bleeding Through, and boo'd Lacuna Coil....yeah, I was itching for a fight and the next song that came on....only pumped me up more, lol.
And finally...
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE
With the cheesiest 80's opening song played over the pa to the reveal of the drummer was funny as heck. Then the rest of the band came out and went straight into "Scream.Aim.Fire" my throat kinda still hurts....but it was amazing they even had pyros going off and everything. Luckily I couldn't hear the fag behind me anymore so it was brilliant. They played several songs off both their albums including all of my favourites such as "The Hand of Blood" and "Waking the Demon' - which was one of their encores in fact. They ended on a pretty epic and cheesy note with "Forever and Always" really really great show spot on with the vocals and music, even the solos were great. It was cool to the bassist getting into things as well, showing support to the crowd and specifically looking into the balcony and flashing the horns and stuff. The effects on the show were cool to using white lights to 'fall' when the chorus of "Tears don't Fall" was being done.
Truly an epic show with some amazing bands, if it weren't for Bleeding Through it'd probably be my best gig ever, alas that still remains with my first ever gig....Roadrunner Roadrage; Five Pointe O, 36 Crazyfists and Killswitch Engage (actually KsE's first gig with Howard Jones as their vocalist)
You have to go see this band live, you will not regret it trust me.
9/10 - thank you Bleeding Through for attempting to ruin a perfect score, cock.
