“HE’S IN THERE?..GET HIM AWAY FROM HER!....YOU’RE A DEAD MAN AJ....A DEAD MAN!.......”
My words echo through the hall way as AJ glares out from Shelly's room. I don't know what he thinks about whats going on but they won't let me see my wife, Chris told them not to, but last time I checked I was her husband, not Chris. And thats when AJ bent down, he kissed her on the cheek and my rage started to boil over as the doctor tried to push me away from the door..
I don't know what happened, I threw the doctor out of my way, his head bashing against the wall and his body collapsing to the floor. AJ looks up, momentarily terrified as I come racing into the room, throwing the full weight of my body against him slamming him back against the window, the glass spider webs, but doesn't break. I can't control my hands as they start to rain down on AJ, fist after fist against his face, the blood begins to pour and I let out a scream that would frighten even the devil himself. I look behind me, I see the body of my wife and I see AJ and I wrap my hands around his throat, I squeeze, the air starts to come slower from his lungs as his mind slips away from him, his eyes turn upward, soon he stops struggling...[/color]
"Mr. Blake? Mr. Blake sir, I'm gonna have to ask you to sit down over there."
I snap back to life from my day dream. AJ is still in her room, and I'm still not allowed to see her or know anything about her. Apparently they admitted her as 'Shelly Taylor' and didn't mention a word about her husband. I'm told someone will be in to see me.
"And I'm sorry about your loss."
His words don't even register with me as I walk into the waiting room, the cold, white waiting room, my virtual prison inside of this hospital. Its got the usual set up, ten or so chairs, a table with old magazines, a soda machine and a candy machine. My hands are shaking, I've been on the road for hours, just to get here, just to be locked out. I haven't eaten or drunk anything, so I get a 'Diet Coke' and sit down on the bench. I'm trying to remember how it all started, how we got to where we are when I look up and see Chris Diamond.
"Hey man."
"Hey."
"Sorry about..."
"Why can't I see her?"
"I think you know why Angel."
I stand up to look Chris in the eyes, which is still pretty hard since he's six inches taller than me.
"Fair enough, tell me what happened."
"From what AJ told us..."
AJ?
"AJ!?"
"Yeah, AJ. He was over your house, Shelly needed to go to the store, he let her take his car... a... uhh.... Camaro I think it was, classic car, stick shift, rear wheel drive."
Oh god...
"She can't drive standard."
"Apparently not. From what the officers on the scene said, it looked like she lost control of the car in the rain and collided head on with a city truck going about 55 miles per hour."
Shelly would never admit when she couldn't do something. AJ probably didn't even know... AJ... AJ's car..
"So, how bad is she?"
"She's very lucky actually, she only has a few broken ribs, and she broke her left wrist. It's just, when she hit, they think her head hit the steering wheel, she hasn't been awake since the accident."
"She's in a coma?"
"Yeah, for now, but the doctors are very optimistic about her waking up soon."
"Good, now can I please go see her?"
I think Chris wants to say 'yes' the look in his eyes say 'yes' but he doesn't. He just stares at me suddenly, feeling sorry for me, then he looks away like he's trying to think of the right words.
"I know AJ called you and told you to come here, which he didn't have the right to do, you don't have a right to be here Angel, you walked out on your wife, you turned your back on her, and you've acted like she doesn't exist. Unfortunately the law says you can be here and the law also says that since you and my sister are still married, Hayleigh is yours not our responsibility."
Hayleigh, what must she be thinking about all of this.
"You have the right to take your daughter and get out of here, but I'm begging you Angel, don't. She's upset, she's confused, and she needs to be with someone who can care about her needs and her needs alone right now."
Hayleigh needs her daddy, she has to, and I owe her that much. She didn't do anything, she didn't cause this, she doesn't deserve to be punished.
"Now, she's out in the hallway with Rob and Mike, you can see her, but please let us take her back to my parents where she'll be happy, and you'll be able to focus on AJ Phoenix."
It all sounds well and good. I give up my rights to my daughter in this dire time, then when the divorce hearing comes around they'll bring this up, they'll use it against me, and they'll rob me of my daughter.
"I think I'll be taking my daughter now Chris."
"Angel, please don't, I see the way your looking at me, what you must be thinking, please let her stay with people who love her."
Meaning I don't?
F*ck you Chris.
I'm not really sure what happened, Chris moved and I must of flinched, allowing my anger to escape for just one second, long enough to have cold cocked Chris Diamond, the self proclaimed enforcer of nCw, and I've knocked him on his ass. Something I've wanted to do for at least seven years now. Rob and Mike run into the room, Honcho tries to hold me back, I don't struggle, Rob puts my daughter down as he helps his brother back up.
"Come on Hayleigh, we're going.
My beautiful little girl looks up at me and runs over, hugging my legs. I pick her up and start walking to wards the door.
"See you Sunday Chris."
"Yeah, love you too Angel"
Ah, the Family Diamond, gotta love'em. Hayleigh holds tight to me as we enter the elevator and descend to the first floor lobby. She looks at me, having recently cried it seems.
"Where's mommy?"
"She's sleeping baby."
"Can we go wake her?"
"No baby, not today."
"Ok."
She doesn't say anything else, she just looks sad, tired, and before we even reach my car she falls asleep. I strap her down to her seat and then I just stand there in the parking lot, looking up at the blanket of stars over Hartford. The rain has stopped for now, the clouds are gone, and the moon is out.
The memories of our life together come flooding back to me, but then something interrupts them, something the doctor said to me when I arrived.
"And I'm sorry about your loss."
Sorry about my loss? Shelly is alive, she's in a coma, but she's alive. What loss? What the hell was he talking...
"No..."
She couldn't of been. The realization hits me like a ton of bricks.
"But.. she would of told me... right?"
Chris, Rob and Mike are walking out of the hospital now, heading to wards their own car.
"CHRIS!"
I shout and he turns, I can barely stand up as he comes running over.
"CHRIS!"
He runs a little faster as I drop to my knees.
"What is it Angel?"
"She... She... was pregnant?"
His face turns pale, he looks terror stricken, they weren't supposed to tell me, I wasn't supposed to know.
"......yes....."
I vomited on the ground, it's all I could do, just purge myself some how of this feeling. But it wasn't going away, it wasn't getting any better.
"AJ..."
Thats all I can say. All I can think.
"Angel, it wasn't his, she's been pregnant for over a month now, she was afraid to tell you."
"AJ..."
He was at the house, she wanted him there, she drove his car, she crashed his car.
"Relax man, here I'll drive you home."
His car.
"Don't blame AJ, it wasn't his fault."
His car. His fault.
"Then who should I blame? The car is gone, she's in a coma, and the rain doesn't have an opinion. Who's fault was it Chris?"
He doesn't have an answer.
"This is AJ's fault, all of it, and unless you do the smart thing and cancel our match, I'm going to make him pay, do you understand me Chris, I'm going to beat this out of him."
He has a cold and contemplative look on his face.
"Do what you think you gotta do brother, but don't get so engulfed by anger and guilt that you forget about the little girl who needs you."
"Guilt? The only guilt I have is not doing what I should of done two weeks ago, and that's killing AJ Phoenix when I had the chance. I won't make that same mistake again, do you understand me?"
"I understand you."
"Good."
He helps me up, but I mostly just use him to pull myself up. The two of us exchange one last look as I get in my 67 Impala. Another classic car...
"She was pregnant, with my child, a pure, innocent soul, and that child was lost due to ignorance, due to jealous envy of something you could never have. This all falls on you AJ, no matter how you try to justify it to yourself. Maybe you knew, maybe you didn't, but the point is you know now what you did. You murdered my child in cold blood Monday night, all because you wanted to make me hurt, you wanted to steal my family, you... wanted... to be... me..."
He called me a husk of a man, an empty shell with no soul.
"Now your going to see first hand exactly what I have become AJ, and trust me when I say, you are definitely not going like the monster you, as well as Adam and the rest of nCw have created. Welcome... to my nightmare..."
My words trail off into the night to deliver my message to the man I have to kill on Sunday.
I am become death.
My words echo through the hall way as AJ glares out from Shelly's room.
