(Darkness)
Hope doesn’t ask about you.
She doesn’t even think of you. She asked me to get rid of her Steve Awesome memorabilia, she asked me to destroy her DVD collection, I wasn’t going to push it, she is a young person with an impressionable mind, and trying to brainwash her isn’t my thing. I knew that she would come to terms with her feelings about you eventually and she has. And soon your sister will, and then your fans will be next to follow. Unfortunately Steve, for you this roller coaster ride is far from over
You got me thinking Steve; you got me wondering the other day. Does he deserve another chance to prove that he is truly happy for what he has, does he respect his life, the life that every other person on this planet wishes they had? Has he learned his lesson? In your tear-filled monologue I thought maybe, just maybe you understood, maybe I should pull back…
But then you said you were willing to die… And that filled me with a glee I haven’t felt since I opened my first GIJOE figure at Christmas, so many years ago. To think that your hubris still lives to think that ultimately you have a choice in what happens makes me smile.
You said you would protect them…
You said you would care…
You crossed your ****ing heart…
(you are taken aback at this rare curse coming from Harold’s mouth because despite his constant threats and masochistic promises he never really curses.)
And you even put all that information on video, so that you could someday look back and tell yourself how cool you were to take your sister under your wing after the unfortunate death of her husband. The video doesn’t tell the story, the words are meaningless without action just as the things I say to you would be meaningless if I didn’t back them up…
But I think I have proven time and time again that I back them up each and every single time that I speak. I think your brain knows after the constant beatings I have placed upon it, but they aren’t done, they aren’t done by a long shot. I want to expose you, I want to show the world what really lies behind Steve Awesome’s false front. You are nothing more than I, the only difference is that I embrace what I have become and you act like you are above it.
(Suddenly some light appears, Harold’s face is shown in a parking garage. He walks slowly stepping behind a column an elevator lies behind him)
You want to know when the lessons stop, you want to tell me you are cured, you are sorry for your wrongs, you are sorry for what you have done, but that isn’t what I want at all. I want your appreciation, I want you to show me that you truly care, I want you to fight, I want you to battle. I am waiting for you to snap, to be something greater, to truly understand but you haven’t you have missed the point entirely, and for that you are going to pay and pay dearly.
I don’t want your hair…
I don’t want your title…
All I want is the perfect life you had, the life that you threw away. I did the right things. I ran to the ring, I pumped my fist, I played the crowd and they loved me. I tried to be a good husband, I never, not once cheated on her despite my life on the road and what did I get for it? What did I get Steve?
I got a wife that died of cancer at a young age, a wife who never smoked, who rarely drank a pure woman that was nothing short of a saint, and she died, and someone has to pay…
Someone has to understand…
Someone has to feel what I felt for so many years.
Because the only way for me to release this is to force it upon someone else, I am nothing more then an equalizer, I make things even. I take from those that have everything and don’t look at them, they don’t study them and they take them for granted. Is what I want too much? Is happiness something I am not granted?
When this ends, you will have nothing. You will have no title, you will have no family, you will have no friends. I want you to feel what it is like to hit rock bottom, then I want you to rise again, I want you to stand proud, but to truly understand the hardships of life you must experience them to the fullest, and that is what I am going to give you. I am going to give you the same thing fate took from me. You will know what it is like, or I will leave you nothing more then a vegetable, a man drinking from a straw with no one to visit him or change his diaper.
This is the reward your life of excess will reap, and until you understand that I am not the enemy, until that moment of enlightenment occurs, until you embrace the dark side of your soul you have NO chance of defeating me.
You talk about how you regret the actions you took with your ex-wife, well I intend to see if your feelings for her are still lingering somewhere deep within.
(Suddenly the dinging of an elevator sounds and the rushed sounds of footsteps approaching are heard, heels clicking on the ground. A very nice, and familiar looking woman passes by wearing a name badge stating the name of some television station passes… You realize who she is after a moment, when Harold steps out from in front of her. She drops her purse to the ground.)
Hello former Mrs. Bates… I was wondering if I may have a moment of your time….
(The look of fear comes over her face as Harold sneers, he looks to the camera and says one final thing…)
I take what you throw away Steve…
(The scene fades as Harold takes a step towards Steve’s ex-wife.)
