The handi-cam Is rolling once again. Steve Awesome finally shows his face after a four week absence. He stands against a black background, in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. The effects of the past two months shown in his eyes. The ware and tare on his whole being by one man obvious in his stance. But yet, he still seemed like a blank slate.
“For the past week I’ve been trying to think of something that I could say.”
He looks around himself, searching for the right words.
“Something simple that I could say that could express the way I feel. But there’s just so many different ways I could go with it. So many different feelings, each one with a million things to say attached to it. And if I said it all and just got it all out, I might run longer than an Ace promo, and Lord knows…nobody has time for that.”
He runs his hand through his slightly longer but still short hair.
“So now you see my problem. Now you see why it’s taken me so long to say anything this month. What can you say? What would you say to the man who blackmailed your own sister to betray you? What would you say to the guy who sent you hurdling through a glass window and then eventually the ring post? What do you say to the guy who had every intention of eliminating you because HE felt that you didn’t deserve to have a family?”
He shakes his head.
“There’s nothing you can say. There’s nothing good enough. This is one of those times where the only thing you can do is let your actions speak for you. Actions speak louder than words and Harold your going to hear my message loud and clear, you got that big man?”
That blank slate is starting to get filled. Chiseled rapidly into the state of anger.
“Because I’m tired of running. I’m tired of looking over my shoulder. I’m tired of feeling down on myself. Harold you think you’ve won this thing, you think that this time it’s just going to be the same as last time. But wake up! Harold this time it’s completely different. Because this time….I have nothing left to loose. You’ve beaten me to a bloody pulp, you took my family, my title. You just kept dangling it all in front of my face, begging me to make the wrong move, taunting me to say the wrong thing. But this time, I have nothing you can take. All I have is one thing…..
His eyes narrow, his eyes on fire.
….a goal…..
He holds his index finger up.
“One goal Harold, that I have committed my entire life too. Every ounce of energy, every bead of sweat, every ounce of my blood, up until the last gasp of air in my lungs……
A smile that makes you uneasy appears on the hall of famer’s face, as he thinks about it.
“……retribution.”
As he thinks about it, he starts to breathe quicker and his fists clench.
“Homeless Harold, you took it upon yourself to try to take my life from me for the simple reason that you didn’t have your own. You past judgment on me and took the punishment into your own hands. And now, I’m going to do the same. In Steve Awesome’s courtroom, we believe in an eye for eye. We believe that what goes around, comes around. You want to beat me to a bloody pulp and take the people I care about? The people that kept me sane during my rehabilitation from my hard lifestyle? I’m going to the same. At Picture Perfect I am going to beat the high holy HELL out of you Harold…..I’m going to show Jackie and Hope I still love them by destroying you and I‘m going to take them back home to Michigan with me! But before I go….I’m going to take away the one thing you care about. I’m going to take away your mask!
“And then whoever is REALLY underneath that mask will finally have to look at himself in the mirror.”
Static.
The scene opens as Steve Awesome rains hard lefts and rights into one of those human replica fighting dummies. He just keeps drilling the head and body with hard jabs and haymakers, really breaking a sweat. Until finally he finishes up his work out with that ruthless round house kick that saw Bad Luck Chuck forget the fourth grade last week on Collision. Awesome grabs his towel from the bench nearby and it knocks the water bottle down to the ground and it rolls toward the door. Steve pats the sweat off his head as he walks over to retrieve it. When he leans down to grab it, a pair of long sexy legs appear in the doorway. Steve follows them up and realizes that they belong to Kelly Karn. Happy wife to former nCw superstar James Franklin Karn. Yup, she’s taken.
Kelly Karn: So your really doing it eh?
Awesome unscrews the cap and takes a swig.
“Doing what?”
Kelly Karn: “Fighting Harold again. You really want to put yourself through that again?”
Awesome walks over and starts positioning the fighting dummy for another workout.
“Yup.”
He said, more assured then hes been in a long time. Kelly walks in and sits on the bench.
Kelly Karn: But why? The guy is huge. And now that he has everything he set out to take do you honestly think he’s just going to let you take it back?”
“No.”
Steve replied without even skipping a beat. He knew it was going to be an uphill battle. But one he would fight until one of them couldn’t fight anymore.
Kelly Karn: Then why?
“Because I have too. I don’t care if he’s bigger than me. Stronger than me. I’ll figure out something. But I just can’t sit back and allow him to walk away from this. I can’t let Harold win this…not when it’s my own flesh and blood on the line. The National Title? It’s just secondary at this point. But I wasn’t there for Jackie and Hope when I should have been and I’m going to make up for it by being there at Picture Perfect. And I’m going to beat Harold…..or die trying.”
Kelly smiles and nods.
“You sound pretty committed.”
Steve just shrugs before throwing another relentless roundhouse kick into the head of the dummy.
“It’s all I can think about. So if you came to give me a pep talk I think I got it handled.”
Kelly Karn: No I came to see if you’ve herd from JFK today?”
Steve shakes his head.
“Why is something wrong?”
Kelly Karn: No…nothing.
She lied to him. JFK had been missing for a few weeks now. She didn’t want to add that to Steve’s mind right now.
Kelly Karn: Anyway…I’m going to get out of here. If you see him, tell him I’m looking for him.”
Kelly walks out of the room and shuts the door behind her. Just then her cell phone rings and she places it to her ear. What she hears from the other end, makes her soul cold.
Kelly Karn: Wait? What do you mean he’s…..out?”
Fade out.
