(This scene is one of curious nature. It is all of the thoughts, not actions of Shaddix as he races on his street bike to get to his hometown to try and free himself from this crime that some say he has commited, though he knows he did not. Every bit of dialogue will be thinking not speaking.)
Shaddix: Everyone says the same thing week after week, who am I? My whole life has been shrouded in controversy and crime. Not many people know my true story. But, I feel that it has come time to tell everyone who I truly am. Time for me to tell my story, and along the way, reveal the truth about the crime of which I am trying to get free from.
(On the outside, Shaddix is riding the open midnight streets, getting closer to his destination.)
Shaddix: The story begins. I was born into a hard working family, I was abused a lot. Growing up I never had the courage to tell anyone what my father would do to me. He would beat me senseless and make me work until I could truly go no more. Night after night I would lose hours of sleep because of the pains I had. The kind of pains like I will induce on my three rivals at Picture Perfect. Horrible pains. That is until...
FLASHBACK
(The sun is beating down hard on this summer day. A young Shaddix, 6 or 7 years of age, is carrying a bundle of logs towards a shed. He stumbles and the logs fall from his hands. He bends down to pick them up.)
Shaddix: Whoops, gotta be more careful.
(Shaddix giggles a little bit. Just then, his father steps in and smacks him in the back with a belt. He screams. His father continues to hit him, and begins to yell.)
Father: You think this is funny! This is unacceptable! For being so stupid your doing double work today!
(From a few yards away, a friend of Shaddix walks over. Another young boy, wearing a t shirt and jeans.)
Friend: Hey, you want to come over and play?
Shaddix: Sorry, I-
Father: He can't do that. He has more work to do.
Friend: I was just wondering because you have been working all weekend and-
Shaddix: I know, but I don't think my uptight father will let me go.
(Then the dad turns angry, he grabs the belt. He starts wailing on Shaddix, with no sign of stopping. He continues and continues.)
Friend: Stop! What are you doing?
Father: You want some! My son has been working all weekend, and he will continue until I say he can stop!
Friend: You can't hit him like that! Your mean, very mean!
Father: I may be, but you can't do anything about that can you?
(A voice breaks in, startling the father. It is deep and commanding. It is the police officer from down the street.)
Officer: No, but I can. Sir, I am going to take your son with me for a bit. I am going to have a talk with him. If he tells me what I think he is going to tell me. You are going to jail for a while.
Father: But, I-
Officer: Shut up, I don't want to hear it. Good day, sir.
(He takes Shaddix and the little boy with him, forever sealing the man's fate.)
END FLASHBACK
Shaddix: Then, my father was arrested and my mother was killed in a car accident. I was an orphan for a while. That is, until I was adopted by my current parents, one of which is still alive. I loved it there. They treated me like a king since they heard of how I grew up. It was completely opposite of what I had lived through before. I lived with my parents until I was nineteen, then they told me to try and find an apartment, which I did. Even though I lived like royalty at home, I had a fair share of enemies outside of my home who tried to beat me up because of my size. Therefore, I learned how to fight.
(Shaddix runs into a bit of traffic on the outside, so he swerves between it.)
Shaddix: Those skills helped me a lot, especially now. I use those skills to my advantage when I had to deal with punks like the ones I will face Sunday, a lot of people who wanted to hurt me. I had heard about an opening of the most popular job in town, being the bouncer at the AAA Bar. Paid great for a bar, and was a great way to meet people. Naturally, I went for it...
FLASHBACK
(Shaddix walks into a bar, seeking the owner who works there. He sees him behind the counter and approaches him, walking through the crowd of people.)
Shaddix: I heard you were looking for a new bouncer.
Owner: Yeah, we sure are. Why, do you know someone who's interested?
Shaddix: Your looking at him.
Owner: I'm sorry dude, but we were looking for someone a little "tougher". No offense, but you don't look too tough. So, move along.
(Shaddix is angry at the man. Another person who views him as weak. He slumps over to the bar and asks for a drink. A group of three boys approach him. He recognizes them as "the gang". They went to school with him years ago and always gave him a hard time, pushing him around and insulting him. They start aggravating him.)
Boy 1: Aww guys, look at the baby. All sad cause he is weak and can't get a job. Maybe we should comfort him by hugging him.
Shaddix: Get the hell away, I'm not in the mood.
Boy 2: Feeling feisty are we? Looks like we might need to push the nice back into him.
Shaddix: If any one of you touch me, I'm gonna hurt all three of you.
Boy 3: That's a little bold coming from such a wimp.
(The third boy pushes Shaddix, almost knocking him off his chair. Shaddix pops back up to his feet.)
Shaddix: Big mistake.
Boy 3: Oh no guys, I made a mistake. Oh well, guess I'll have to pay for it.
Shaddix: Yes you will.
(Shaddix grabs the full beer bottle from the bar and smashes it over the boy's head. The boy holds his beer drenched head and Shaddix kicks him in the chest, knocking him to the ground. The second boy runs at him. Shaddix moves aside and grabs the boy's head and slams it face first into the bar.)
Boy 1: Hey, you're getting it now.
Shaddix: Seeing as I just took out both of your friends, try me.
(The boy grabs a beer bottle and throws it at Shaddix. He ducks and the bottle smashes into the wall behind him. The boy runs toward Shaddix and tackles him. Shaddix knees the boy in the face and stands to his feet. He reaches and grabs the pool stick from an onlooker. As the first boy stands, he breaks the stick on the boy's back. The three boys are all laid out on the ground as the owner walks over. He points at Shaddix.)
Owner: You. Come with me.
(They walk into an office in the back of the bar. He motions for Shaddix to sit down on the couch as he sits in his office chair.)
Owner: Boy, I don't know if I approve of what you did back there, but you did it.
Shaddix: What do you mean?
Owner: I mean that you showed more toughness out there than most men would have, so you got the job.
Shaddix: Wow, thank you sir. You won't be disappointed.
Owner: No, thank you for being my new bouncer.
END FLASHBACK
Shaddix: From there I was the bouncer for a while. Then, "the crime" was commited. My family went over to my grandparent's house for a visit, big yearly family reunion. My uncle had invited a friend. Strange looking man who never took off his sunglasses, ever. He was always looking around. Anyway, the big dinner started and I brought the wine to the table. We toasted and my aunt ran off to her room. We heard screaming and minutes later, we found her dead. My uncle's friend started yelling that it was me, that I spiked her wine to kill her. Before anyone could object, he called the cops. My parents knew it wasn't me, so they took me and we left to go to my home.
(On the outside, Shaddix exits off the freeway and onto the streets of New Orleans.)
Shaddix: The next night, the whole family came over to yell and try and turn me in. That man had everyone but my parents convinced. My father told me to leave. I headed to my bar, and on my way back I saw the fire trucks on their way to the fire. Well, you know the story from there. Now, I'm going back. Back to where the crime happened to look for clues to clear my name and set everything right, maybe find out who really did it.
(Shaddix comes to a stop in front of a house as dawn breaks on the horizon. The home belonged to Shaddix's grandparents. Ever since they died in the fire, it has been empty. Now, he will search the home, trying hopelessly to clear his name.)
