{Father Karras stands at his pulpit, though the congregation is not present, given that it is Saturday night. Sister Desiree is preparing their bags for the trip from Montana to Tennessee. The Daredevil promo is on the television that usually shows him the security camera of the church. It's on pause as Karras waited for them to set up the camera for his promotional video. Now that they are finished, he presses play. And one sentence rings out in the air.}
Daredevil: So you believe me to be an idiot Karras?
Karras: You have no idea, Daredevil. None. You reject everything you should be embracing because the voice in your head told you it was more fun. You reject the ideals that make men like me worth a thousand of you, because the voice inside your head.. told you it was fun. You see, Daredevil, God speaks to me. He doesn't waste his time telling people like you anything, because frankly you don't deserve His love and support. You think the voice inside your head cares anything about you? Satan is the father of lies, my confused simpleton. He manipulates you into doing his bidding, all under the guise of fun. I'm delivering God's word to you. But let me ask you something. Have I ever once ordered you to go to church? Have I ever once demanded that you pray every day and night for forgiveness and tithe and repent? No. I'm not here to peddle religion, you mindless twat. I'm selling God. If you're not buying, you're not worth anything to anyone.. ever.
Your enemies will be clothed in shame, and the tents of the wicked will be no more.
Job 8:22
Karras: That's what you are Daredevil. A wicked man clothed in shame and disgrace. You wear a mask to hide your identity because you don't want people to know who you are, or who you once were. Now because you have this anonymity, you believe yourself to be free from judgement. You believe that your sins won't matter because you simply can take the mask off and nobody will know what either of your personas have done. But God does not blink. He is always watching, and he knows all of your secrets. Whether He reveals them to the world, is entirely up to Him. But I assure you, if He does, it will be when it would hurt a heathen like you the most.
I will break down your stubborn pride and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze.
Leviticus 26:19
Karras: Pride, Daredevil, is the one thing you have in spades. But your pride is in everything that never lasts. I said before, Satan has no power over the realm of earth. He cannot help you, he does not protect you, he does not care one way or another should you falter and fail. He needs you to do his bidding. God merely asks. You think I'm hiding behind something? I'm sitting here, telling you what you should already know, and informing you that I'm going to beat it into you. And suddenly I'm hiding. Empty words from someone backpeddling away from the truth. I don't need His help to break people like you. And since you question my manhood, I will be more than happy to do so. It's all well and good to accuse someone of being fake, but I'm here, in a chuch, where does a child of Satan have to be? Nowhere. You have nothing Daredevil, and no-one.
I do not sit with deceitful men, nor do I consort with hypocrites
Psalm 26:4
Karras: You will find yourself unmistakably alone in this world Daredevil. I have tried my best to help you, but if you reject my hand, then you reject His, and there is no salvation at the end of your life. My calling requires me to break an unrepentant sinner should I come across one, and while Mac Bane was close, you are the very first I shall have to save by force. It doesn't matter if you want to be saved, it doesn't matter if you don't like what I stand for, when this is all over. You will respect His power. I am a man of God. Father Gabriel Damien Karras, and you are the first of the wicked. Burn or believe, the choice is yours.
Amen
{Karras shuts off the television, and walks back through the door into their living quarters. On one simple bed is one duffel of Karras's things. On the other more luxurious silk sheeted bed, is three suitcases. Father Karras sighs.}
Karras: Are you sure you need all of that Sister?
{Desiree looked up from packing, a naughty undergarment in her hands. Then she recovers and quickly stuffs it into the suitcase under her other clothes.}
Desiree: Yes, Father. I'm never quite sure how long we'll be gone for.
Karras: Well, as much as it pains me to wrestle on the sabbath, it is in my contract that I must, and I know the Lord will forgive me. But we shall return the day after, no later than noon.
{Karras walked over, inspecting the three suitcases, one of which was open. He began to rummage through them.}
Desiree: I understand. In truth I forgot where we were headed, so each of these has different sets of clothing for different weather.
Karras: Tennessee, Desiree.
Desiree: Now I rememb..
{She stops midsentence as Karras holds up a black leather bodice, one of her relics from her olden days. Desiree drops to her knees, hands enfolded in prayer.}
Desiree: Forgive me Father. I know I should have discarded all the relics of my past when I joined, but.. I can't.. Forgive this, your child, in her moment of weakness.
{Karras kneels down before her, and wraps an arm around her, pulling her close.}
Karras: It is alright, Sister. God has already forgiven you for your past transgressions
Desiree: Thank you, Father.
{They part and both stand, Karras nodding and leaving the room, leaving Desiree alone with the camera. She watches him go, then sighs, picking up the bodice and placing it back into the suitcase, under the 'normal' clothes.}
{Fade.}
