Awesome turns around and heads out the door leading towards the back. He walks outside and just before he reaches the side door to the garage, an odd rustle in the bushes catches his ear. Curious, he creeps up toward the sound and movement. He leans forward when suddenly from out of the bushes….something lunges for him!
“AHHHHHHHHH!!!!”
With a simple side-step Steve Awesome dodges the flying hug by a man slightly familiar to the nCw fans. The fro-hawked warrior himself…Jayson Matthews. Jayson falls to the ground in comedic fashion and all Steve can do is just stare in disbelief.
“Um…..what just happened?”
But Steve won’t get an answer just yet, as the excited JayMat starts marking out like a little girl while watching Twilight.
“Holy crap! Dude…..Steve…I seriously can’t even believe it’s you. I mean I did see your G-ride out front and I figured it could have been you but I wasn’t for sure. But now I’m totally sure it’s you because your totally standing right in front of me. I haven’t seen you in forever. HUG ME!”
Jayson instantly wraps his arms around Steve whose arms were down by his sides, turning the hug into a trap. Steve waits with an awkward look on his face until Jayson gets done.
“So let me get this straight…..”
Steve said, wiping off his shirt.
“You saw my car out front and thought I was here so you hid in my bushes and waited for me to come outside?”
Jayson nods his head like that scenario didn’t sound weird.
“Yeah. What self-respecting Steve Awesome fan would I be if I didn’t?”
Awesome opens his mouth to speak but instead he just laughs. It’s usually better not to argue with a kid like Jayson.
“It’s great to see you too kid. So how you been? You still wrestling?”
“Well I would be, if Johnny and I didn’t get fired from the company. Stupid NAZI! Suddenly gaining talent from out of nowhere. But enough about me, what about you? What brings you to the old stomping grounds?”
Steve points back at his parents home.
“My parents wanted to see me for my birthday. I should have known it was just a ploy to throw me a surprise party. I’m twenty five years old, I’m too old to be having birthday parties.”
Jayson gasps.
“A party? Really? Dude, I wanna come! Especially if they have party hats like that!”
Jayson points to the sponge bob party hat that was still on Steve’s head. Awesome realizes what Jayson was pointing at and he quickly snatches it off his head and tosses it behind him.
“Oh yeah….”
Awesome says sarcastically.
“….and there’s going to be cake and ice cream, pin the tail on the donkey , and a piñata too.”
Jayson grins and rubs his hands together excitedly.
“Sounds like my kind of party.”
Steve rolls his eyes. Jayson was an easily amused, innocent, nineteen year old kid. So of course he’s going to be down for a party like that.
“Yeah well, there wont even be a party if I don’t carry in all this stuff and bring it in the house. Wanna help me?”
Awesome turns and opens the side door of his parents garage expecting Jayson to be all for it.
“I would….but I can’t. I was on my way to pick up my sister from the airport. You remember Mandi right?”
Even though his back was turned you could tell that Steve did. How could he not remember her? They had so many memories together. He even took her to prom. Steve turns back around to face Jayson.
“Of course I do. You know what, you should bring her by when you come tonight. We have a lot of catching up to do.”
Jayson’s face lights up.
“Deal dude. Deal.”
He gives Steve a high five and then dives over the fence and runs off through backyards until he was out of site. Awesome just shakes his head and laughs as he gets to work, clearing out the garage.
Handi cam. Steve Awesome. Spike is a douche. Ready and Go.
“You know…..I’ve done some pretty horrible things in my past. I’ve hurt people, took them out completely for my own personal gain. I even practically had the world title gift wrapped and handed to me last year in my match against Trent. I shattered his wrist into a million pieces before we had the match and even then it was the interference of not only The Ace and The Empire but Adam Knite himself that got me the win and the championship. Trent was never the same after that moment. I took away the man I called “best friend’s” spirit all for the chance to become world champion.”
Steve looks away from the camera, the memories obviously bad for him.
“I’m definitely not proud of that. If there was a way for me to go back in time and stop myself I’d do it in a heartbeat. But unfortunately for me and Trent, what’s done is done. It’s in the past and in the past it shall stay. It’s always going to be there though, to haunt me whenever some douche bag with a God complex decides to bring it up to make me look bad.”
Steve shrugs his shoulders, not allowing it to effect him.
“I can’t make it better. I can’t change my actions from the past, but what I can do is make sure they don’t repeat in the future. I made a promise to myself a few months ago that I wasn’t going to act like I did before anymore. I was going to try and keep a level head, think things through before I acted on impulses of anger and spite. I promised myself that I was going to do the right thing. I was going to be a positive role model for all those that looked up to me. Somebody that nCw would be proud to have representing them.”
Awesome’s head snaps back to face the camera, a scowl filled with anger on his face.
“But I’ll be damned if Spike Kane isn’t making it real hard for me to keep that promise. Spike, your making it real difficult for me to resist the urge to throw the wrestling out the window and just straight up kick your cocky little ass all over Memphis this Sunday at Fallout. In all the years we’ve known each other Spike, I’m not sure there was ever really a time that we’ve seen eye to eye. Maybe a few blips of common ground we’re shared but at the end of the day we were never friends. We weren’t enemies or anything like that, but we definitely weren’t friends. You babble on about how I have a big head, how in my own mind I’m some type of superstar when in reality it’s you with the ego…not me.
And I could have an ego. I’ve had one of the biggest egos the business ever seen for years. Hell, there was a time when I thought I was bigger than the business. Of course I wasn’t, nobody is. Something you might need to learn…something I might teach you come Fallout. But I could stand here and ramble on and on about myself. Explain to you that my title reign was actually one of the best this company has seen right behind Lance and Adams. Sure, the way I won the strap was a little questionable but there’s no denying the competition I went through was head and shoulders above the talent level that you fended off. Two men that you supposedly mentored and paved the way for, Ace and Angel, were beaten by me. One by submission and one by straight pin fall. I was mere seconds away from beating Xavier Williams if it hadn’t been for your twin brother stopping me from doing so. I could brag about how most of the revered and feared in this company can’t even say they’ve beaten me one on one. Even Angel, the guy whose defeated everyone, the dude you’ve tucked tailed and ran from since the moment he walked into this company, can’t say he’s beat me one on one. Not even you Spike….in all the years we’ve known each other, you’ve never beaten me once.
“And your supposed to be a God?”
Steve chuckles, the irony definitely wasn’t lost on him.
“Pfft…stop kidding yourself man. You want the respect and the honor, you want me to take you seriously well guess what Spike. You don’t deserve it. I don’t even deserve it. But the fans AND my peers give it to me anyway because I don’t sit in my own little studio with my emo friends and demand it and threaten if I don’t get it. Instead….I earn it. I go out to that ring every day, and I give the people one hundred percent each and every night. And because of that, I’ve become respected like Lance Ryan is. I get cheers like Dave Holland does whenever he steps foot in a ring. And that right there is why we will never be the same. We may have came up on practically the same path, but we are two different human beings. Two VERY different human beings.
So go ahead Spike…let it all out. Show up to Fallout as the God of Xtreme himself, be crazy Spike. Give me everything you got and more and watch me shove it right back in your face. You wanna be dangerous? Go ahead, because I can be dangerous too. Hurt me Spike, beat me down until I can’t stand anymore. Till I can’t even breathe anymore. Then watch me take another gasp. Then watch me stand up. Then watch me OVERCOME.
Steve Awesome leans into the camera his eyes wide and you can see just how determined he really is.
“Because that’s what I do.
Steve sticks his finger into his chest.
You wanna kill me?”
Steve shakes his head, an angry yet confident smirk adorns his face like war paint before the battle.
“You can’t. Because the heart of nCw beats alongside my own….and you can’t kill nCw. Not now……”
Steve pauses. If ever the was a point where Steve was more ready for something then he is right now, he hadn’t seen it yet. He knew what he had to do to win, he knew what was at stake. He was ready for the fall out.
“Not EVER!”
Static.
“AHHHHHHHHH!!!!”
