We fade in during the early morning, with the sun just starting to come over the horizon and the orange glow starting to shine on the ground…a morning that Seth Evans, who was sitting on a bench in a park in Austin, didn’t care much to see. His journey, his conquest, already became a failure. The winner of the match and the man that was stepping forward to face Rob Diamond, and Dirty Deal, was the man that he failed to defeat the previous week, but the man that he never officially had a loss to. Jimmy Zane. Seth put his arm across the top of the bench and just looked blankly in front of him… He wouldn’t be without a match, but it wasn’t the one he wanted. His time to hold a championship has not yet come, and it made him sick to his stomach knowing that he had let thousands, upon thousands of people down in Toronto. A promise that he couldn’t fulfill.
His promise was to not return to Toronto until he had that X-Division Championship over his shoulder. Seth continued to stare in front of him as the camera had panned out a little to see Seth from head to toe; still sitting in his wrestling gear. A few seconds more passed before he finally lifted his voice to speak.
“Yet again, I do what I’ve done best over the last couple months…ever since April…I let everybody down.”
His voice was low, full of shame, and his eyes finally looked towards the camera while he continued to speak.
“I told everybody back in Toronto that I was going to be coming back into the airport with that X-Division Championship around my waist, and what did I do? I couldn’t even become the number one contender! I choked! A second too late to make the save, and it cost me everything that meant something to me in that business.”
A sigh escaped from the pursed lips of the nCw wrestler. He slowly let his tongue run across his lips while letting this pause continue a few seconds longer.
“There’s a part of me that says I can let it go…I can go back to my home, and tell them that I’ll come back next time I have a shot at becoming the number one contender. I can make it right. However, there’s the other part of me. The part that says that I’m going to be a man of my word, and I am not going to go back to Toronto without that X-Division Championship. I…like that part.
Don’t get me wrong, Jimmy Zane, I’m not upset with you for winning. I congratulate you for winning! I’m not ashamed of a loss to you, I went out to that ring and I did the best that I possibly could to walk out with a victory…but a moment too late. I’m not going to bitch. I’m not going to moan. I’m not going to walk out. I’m going to get right back into that ring at Battlegrounds, or their little pre-show, Wired, and I’m going to step into that ring. What I am ashamed of is that I couldn’t keep my promise to the people of Toronto. I couldn’t keep my promise to every single one of those fans that were wanting to see me walking out as the number one contender for the X-Division Championship; the people that wanted to see me walk out of Battlegrounds as the X-Division Champion…I let them down.
That’s what I’m ashamed of.
A man of my word. That’s what I’m going to be, so I am going to have to say right here, and right now, that I do apologize to all my friends, and my girlfriend, especially; but I will not be returning to Toronto after this upcoming Sunday. After Battlegrounds. I won’t be returning. I made a promise to all of you, and I do intend to keep that promise…I will not be returning to my home without the X-Division Championship. Not the Xtreme Championship. Not the National Championship. Not even the World Championship.
The X-Division Championship.”
Seth adjusted a little in his seat, and sat forward. His eyes never strayed from the camera. His arms kept at his side on the bench, his hands gripping the edge of his seat.
“I guarantee that I will be back in Toronto, Ontario before too long. I will come back as the X-Division Champion. Whether I have to defeat Rob Diamond for the belt, or Jimmy Zane…whoever walks out of Battlegrounds as the champion, they better know that I have my eyes set on them. And Jimmy, I want you to keep one thing in mind; you never pinned me. You never made me tapped out. That doesn’t mean that the record books won’t show that you have the victory over me, and I won’t deny that you have a victory over me…the fact of the matter is that you never beat me to get that victory. It’s a strange fate, Jimmy, a very strange fate, indeed! We have had two matches together, yet we’ve never pinned the other. We’ve never made the other tap out. Two out of two. If you can do what you sought out to do, we will have our third match, and I promise you that you won’t have that victory.
Congratulations, Jimmy.
Don’t let me down.
Since I was unable to defeat Jimmy Zane and Gabriel Karras, considering Fergus Callaghan got removed from the match due to a previous attack…I got put into a new match. A step closer to being on the actual Battlegrounds event, but instead, I’m on Wired. No shame in that. I’ll be facing off in another Four-way match, assuming nobody gets jumped this time around, and my opponents will be Jackhammer…Xavier Williams…and Nathan Doe.
I’m not going to waste my time talking so much about my opponents, I’m simply going to say what I’m going to do: What I am going to do is do what I have done every single time I have gone out to that ring. I’m going to go out to that ring and give it my all; do the best that I possibly can! How I see it is that I need to essentially start back from the bottom… Those shots, the chances to become the number one contender for any of the championships, they don’t come around everyday. So, I have to start over, and I do wish you all the best of luck, but something’s going to happen this next Sunday that didn’t happen at Collision this week; I’m going to win.
My quest to become the X-Division Champion…it restarts…now.”
Seth stands up from the bench in the park, and gives a glance at the camera. Though he felt pretty broken about not being able to keep his promise to his fans, he felt a little bit renewed. He would have to convince administration by his actions in the ring to prove that he deserves another shot to become the number one contender for the X-Division Championship…he walked away from the scene knowing in his mind that the next time this came around, he wouldn’t fail.
