The scene opens up on an empty stage…two spotlights shining at separate sides of the stage. Enter stage left! Seth Evans comes out wearing some pretty tight pants, a black shirt and a vest over it, buttoned up. On his feet were no ordinary shoes. They were tap shoes! Enter stage right! Out comes Michael Flatley comes wearing the same kind of tights as Seth Evans, almost exactly like him, in fact…a little more colorful, and also wearing a headband. Seth shrugs his shoulders at him for a moment and suddenly music from the Lord of the Dance starts to play and both of them are completely in sync with their tap dancing as they go back and forth on the stage. Seth pauses for a moment as Michael Flatley takes his dance solo, and almost forty-five seconds, he gestures for Seth to take his turn. Seth jumps to the middle of the stage and starts to do his own dance solo! About twenty seconds into it, Michael Flatley kicks him in the back of the head sending him to tumble forward and off the stage! He’s glaring angrily at Seth Evans, who is holding the back of his head in a bit of pain as some of the stage crew run up to check on him.
Michael Flatley:
“No one upstages me on my show!”
We fade out with the crew helping Seth Evans out of the building. Seconds later, we reopen with Seth Evans walking out of the hospital, squinting his eyes a little and using his hand to cover his eyes from the sun for a brief moment. He stopped at the end of the sidewalk as a few people were walking past him, and rubbed his hand through his hair and scratching the back of his head right where Michael Flatley had kicked him. He slowly shook his head while thinking about what had happened but ultimately decided that it would be best to forget about what happened, and focus on his opponents coming up at Battlegrounds. Nathan Doe, Xavier Williams, and Jackhammer.
"I hear it over, and over again: A second…too late.”
Seth shamefully turns his head to look down the sidewalk, slowly turning his body to go in the same direction as the way his head was facing. Slowly, he walks forward with his hands tucked into his pockets as it was starting to get rather chilly, while the clouds were overhead blotting out the sun. His voice carried over to the camera, that was at his side, as he continued to walk forward.
“A second too late at a chance to walk into Battlegrounds with one of the biggest opportunities that I would have in my still young career.”
Still walking forward, Seth slowly walked onto a bike trail leading into a wooded area.
“A second too late to have my opportunity to get a shot at the X-Division Championship.”
Along the path, he came to a bench and seemingly collapsed into the seat…though the camera could not see it, the darker, more twisted mind of Seth crept along the path and casually took a seat next to him. His eyes gazing at his counterpart, while Seth just leaned back on the bench and thinking about what he had let go due to his failure. What he had let go due to a promise. Part of him still looking to the future, and seeing another opportunity to prove himself at the pre-show to Battlegrounds against these three other individuals.
“My goal, my dream, crushed all by one second…it’s amazing what a huge difference one second can make. I shouldn’t say that they were crushed, though, what I should say is that they have just been postponed. Postponed by an undetermined amount of time, because of one second.
I can accept a defeat added to my record…what I can’t accept is that my name was tainted. Tainted by the words of Jimmy Zane, by talking about how arrogant I am…talking about how much of an asshole I am, because I came into New Championship Wrestling with something on my mind: The World Championship. Something that’s on the mind of all of the people that have ever signed a contract to any professional wrestling organization, around the world, you want to ask any of them what they’re in it for; they will all tell you that they are in it for the World Championship! How have I become an asshole because I admit to it?
I lost to a man that is simply living in the shadow of the Punisher. Someone who is simply trying to fill some shoes…and I can’t take anything away from him. From the very first time that I stepped into the ring against him, at Collision, I knew that he was a very talented athlete…he went on to prove it in the following week by being able to be one second ahead of me! I lost to a man that can’t even admit his true passion for stepping into that ring each and every night. It’s the World Championship.
The X-Division Championship…that’s what is now haunting my dreams, it’s what keeps waking me. The thought that I could have finally walked out with a belt around my waist, and just to have it ripped away from me. Yes, my mind is on the World Championship, but I can honestly say that I wouldn’t want it more than the X-Division Championship at this particular moment. Why? Because I promised myself…I promised everybody in Toronto that I would not return without the X-Division Championship.
Not the Xtreme Championship. Not the National Championship. Not the World Championship.
There is no substitute for the X-Division Championship, just as if I was fighting for the World Championship; there is no substitute! That’s why it is going to be the X-Division Championship that I walk out of the ring with, one day. As I told you, Jimmy Zane: Whether it’s you holding the belt…or Rob Diamond…I am going to be taking that X-Division Championship when my day comes. That day is going to be coming. Whether it be immediately following Battlegrounds, or whether it comes two years from now. I will be the X-Division Champion.”
He paused for a moment, folding his hands together and slowly lifting his head to stare directly into the camera. His counterpart still sitting there, unbeknownst to Seth, and the camera…he had placed his feet up on the bench just staring at his more respectful counterpart, the actual Seth Evans that we could see, and the one that was speaking. The future. Seth had to keep his mind on that, he couldn’t focus on what Michael Flatley had done to him; he couldn’t focus on his previous match against Gabriel Karras and Jimmy Zane, where he was unable to complete what he sought out to do…he had to focus on his three upcoming opponents.
“I’m still living in the past, it seems…still constantly thinking about that loss that I endured against Jimmy Zane, and seeing him just take away my chance at walking into the pay-per-view with a shot at the X-Division Championship. What I should be doing is focusing on the people ahead of me; the people I know are ahead of me. I’ve thought of them very little over the past couple days, and wrongfully so…they should be at the top of my mind. I should probably be at the training center right now and watching all of their previous matches, so I can be prepared for this battle.
I step into that ring against these three men, and I think I need to do what I couldn’t do at Collision. I need to win! This is a chance to prove myself…make people see that I wasn’t just someone who can walk into that ring and defeat two people that were deemed as rookies in the eyes of everyone else.
I have Xavier Williams, a former three-time X-Division Champion, and a former World Champion. Do you expect me to take him lightly, in the least? I don’t. I won’t. He’s probably the favorite walking into this match with all of the previous experience that he does have within New Championship Wrestling, since he was able to walk out with those championships…if I were a betting man, I’d even put my money on this guy. However, I’m hoping to cause myself an upset if I were to bet on this. Because I don’t aim to lose.
Another individual is Jackhammer, who…as I have pointed out, is injured after his match at the last pay-per-view against the Xtreme Champion, Sexy Jason. However, he has a lot of strength to back himself up and still be a very big threat when we walk into that ring at Wired. Battlegrounds. Whatever I choose to call it. On top of him being injured, and having all that strength to back himself up; he is also a former Xtreme Champion! I can’t take this guy lightly, in the least, and so there’s no reason that he may not even be the favorite in this match over even Xavier Williams.
Last, but certainly not least, is Nathan Doe. He is like me, at least in nCw…he does not have any former reigns as any champion, so it kind of puts both him and I as the underdogs in this contest. Hell, our story is pretty much the same! I got put in this match after I was unable to defeat Jimmy Zane in a triple threat match at Collision. He got put in this match after his team was unable to defeat The Syndicate in their contest. Both of us were denied the right to fight in the Champions versus Challengers at Battlegrounds. Both of us denied the right to face Rob Diamond and Dirty Deal.
The same story.
As I said, though: I’m aiming to get my head back in the game…I’m aiming to move forward from a loss that I suffered at Collision, and earning a shot to face either Jimmy Zane or Rob Diamond. Xavier Williams, Jackhammer, Nathan Doe…don’t expect me to be a pushover. I won’t be expecting anything of the sort out of you guys.”
Seth stood up from the bench, and looked down the trail for a brief moment and tucking his hands back into his pockets. After a couple of seconds, Seth did turn his head back towards the camera, and let out a sigh as his mind continued to think about the loss, but a smile reassured him that there would be brighter days. Better days. A sincere smile came to his face.
“Good luck.”
Seth continued his walk down the trail…his counterpart also getting up and following along, but a little distant as it seemed Seth did not need him. The scene faded.
