{Dinner. Karras sat at one end of the table, having a last meal before he hopped the plane overnight to make his way back to Texas. This time it was Houston, and a pay-per-view no less. The Carbonara was delicious. Say what you want about Desiree's attire, or her less than porn star looks, she could cook with the best of them. Didn't matter what either. She came back into the room, taking the seat that been recently vacated of dishes. She looked at him as he stared at the table. He hadn't said a word during dinner, and barely three words during the day. Something was on his mind.}
Desiree: Centisimo per vostra pensai, Padre?
Karras: Your Italian is impeccable, as always.
Desiree: Well? What are you thinking about?
Karras: A lot of things.
{Pause.}
Desiree: Like?
Karras: Where I'm going.. is this really worth it.. why does Spike hate me so much.. things like that.
Desiree: Texas.. yes.. and he's a douche. Seriously, he hates you because he doesn't like the entrance music. This from a dude who says you shouldn't listen to metal music, not realizing that his favorite band write songs steeped in religious overtones. What the **** did he think Chapter four was actually about? He's named Kane for christ sake.
Karras: It runs deeper than that. He's a tormented soul, steeped in hatred for those who ignore his self worth. He's earned his accolades, so this event confuses me as much as it does him.
Desiree: That's great for him. What does he expect to get out of it by killing you? Suddenly Leonard Fox is gonna walk out and hand him bricks of gold and a crown? He's delusional, taking his anger out on you because you're here, and that's mistake number one.
Karras: Maybe.
Desiree: What do you mean maybe?
Karras: Exactly what I said. Maybe. I don't know if I have the strength to overcome Spike Kane. I represent God, I'm not him.
Desiree: Well, use your words, that's what he's expecting.
Karras: I suppose.
'Do not hate your brother in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in his guilt.
Leviticus 19:17
Karras: I mean that a little less literally than you may take it, but it stands. I wish I understood the reason for your enmity Spike. Just who exactly do you think I am? I'm not Joel Osteen, or Pat Robertson. I'm not out here on TV every week sitting in a big air conditioned cathedral while talking about the human suffering of the world. I'm bringing God's word to you, as it relates to you. I trained to be a wrestler, like you did. I train every week to keep in peak shape to compete, like you do. The only difference between us is that I see you for what you are, and you chastize me for something I'm not. Look in the bible and tell me where it says "Thou shalt not listen to heavy metal music." You can't find it, because it's not in there. God doesn't concern himself with what kind of music you listen to. So why is my musical taste something to be condemned, while you sit there and enjoy it? You talk about my corruption, but hypocritism is the most vile form of it. Do not condemn me for something you, yourself do.
You came back and wept before the LORD, but he paid no attention to your weeping and turned a deaf ear to you.
Deuteronomy 1:45
Karras: That's what this is about for you Kane. The fact that you don't think anyone pays any attention to you. No, that's not quite it is it? You're angry at the fact that no-one will pay attention to only you. As far as you're concerned, you are the only person that really matters, right? You should be in the main event of every show, no matter when or where. You should be the only one allowed to speak freely and challenge the people who work hard to give the world good quality programming. As far as I can tell Spike, the only leech here is you. Leeching off the good nature of a company that welcomes you back after each time you abandon them. As soon as you're not the focal point, you've run. It has nothing to do with talent, it never has. As soon as something doesn't go your way, you're gone, off to find some other company to sponge off of. You and Brad are more alike than you'd like us to believe. I've never asked anyone, in my congregation, in New Championship Wrestling, in the whole damn world.. to follow me. They do, because they believe as I do. You put a knife in the back of anyone who's ever wanted some of your light. I wonder how long will it be before you turn on Falcon, Cameron and Robert? Despite being jerks and loners, they're all decent guys at heart. But you... you're a sin incarnate. And no, that's not a good thing... ever.
Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him.
Exodus 23:21
Karras: I'm asking you to listen Spike, because I'm here for your own good. How many wrestlers retire happy? None. They're all miserable because they live the life of excess and at the end of it all, they have nothing. God has seen to that. That's why invariably they all return at one point or another, to try and get a piece of that back. I offer nothing more than salvation. I ask nothing of you other than to be a decent person. If you won't, then you will feel the fist of retribution. I'm not here to win titles or matches Spike. I'm here to open your blind eyes to what you should have already seen.
But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish.
Psalm 49:12
Karras: As for Hammond and Victor, they.. well, they have very little to say it seems. Hammond is still lost, digging through his own life to find where he should be. He looks here, then he looks like he doesn't know where he is anymore. I cannot help him. Tommy Victor does not know if he wants to stay or go, fight or die, fight or flee. Time is something I must allow him. God's time and patience are infinite, mine are not. I won't waste more words on the matter. We will all perish someday, and everything you've obtained in your life remains behind. The day you cease worrying about what you deserve, is the day you start earning for the next life.
{Karras went back to his Carbonara, the sermon apparently finished. Desiree stared at him for a long minute, swilling the dinner wine in her glass.}
Desiree: Cosi torrido per a te, Padre.
Karras: Such thoughts are unbecoming of a nun, Sister.
Desiree: Maybe. But God will forgive me.
{Karras looks at her, stone faced for a moment, then he lets a smile out.}
Karras: I'm certain he will. Once he realizes that it's me, and not some stranger in a night club.
{Her cheeks flush red, and she looks away.}
Karras: I know. You're trying.
{He reaches across the table, and touches her arm. She looks back at him, and places her hand over his.}
{Fade.}
Desiree: Centisimo per vostra pensai, Padre?
Karras: Your Italian is impeccable, as always.

Karras: A lot of things.
