You used to think that it was so easy
You used to say that it was so easy
But you're tryin'
You're tryin' now
Another year and then you'll be happy
Just one more year and then you'll be happy
But you're cryin'
You're cryin' now
You used to say that it was so easy
But you're tryin'
You're tryin' now
Another year and then you'll be happy
Just one more year and then you'll be happy
But you're cryin'
You're cryin' now
The scene opens up inside of Joe Everyman's locker room. He is sitting on a chair, watching a television. As the camera pans around the room, the video on the screen is shown to be from Sovereign, 2008. The match; Lance Ryan vs. Spike Kane vs. Jack Manson for the nCw World Heavyweight Championship. The match is right at it's end, where Lance Ryan wins the title for his second time. He is shown standing victorious. Joe stares on with content while the video plays and eventually stops. The camera pans around to Joe who has a very calm look on his face, considering what he just saw on the video screen.
Joe Everyman: What I just witnessed, alot of people say is one of the greatest moments to ever happen in nCw history. It was the victory that basically cemented the fact that Lance Ryan is in the nCw Hall of Fame. It was his second World title reign's beginning, something he is very proud of. And do you know what I have to say to that? Oh...f*cking...well. See Lance, I am doing what you asked. I'm not going to say that you are washed up anymore, because you have since proved to me that you aren't. But there is something still that you can't change. There is still something you can never really alter, no matter how hard you try. You are still nCw past. No matter how you try, and no matter what you do, you will always be the past of nCw. And I believe it is about time you stepped aside and let the up and coming wrestlers take the spots you have held back for so long. It is finally time that you relinquish your spot to someone who really deserves it...like me. I know it seems a little egotistical of me to say something like that, but you and I both know it's true. You will eventually give up your spot at the top, and I am more than ready to take that spot...forcefully or not.
Joe picks up the remote for the TV and hits next. The next scene starts playing off of the television, and it is from Picture Perfect 2008. It is the closing moments of Joe Everyman's battle for the National Championship against JFK.
Joe Everyman: Do you see that Lance? You keep saying that I haven't done anything nearly as impactful as you. And you keep running your mouth, saying that you will always be better than me. And yet, I look at this video and I see one thing...greatness. Every single person who witnessed this match said it was the match of the night by a large margin. You say that I always fall short of what I promise. Well, I said I was going to take two things from JFK in that match; his pride and his title. I took both of those, and then some. I took his career, because as I was beating him to a bloody pulp, I broke his f*cking leg. How can you say that it wasn't lasting? How can you say it wasn't impactful? How can you say I didn't follow up, when clearly I did. Lance, you really need to check your facts on a few things. To be honest, you are a little rusty on that whole remembering thing. I realized all of this after watching what you had to say this week. You really need to get your stuff together, because after watching it, I was only able to say one thing...bullsh*t!
The scene on the television plays over the end of the National Championship match, with Joe standing over the visibly hurt JFK with the National Championship in his hands. Joe smiles when he sees this, a sight we haven't seen in quite some time. In recent weeks, Joe hasn't smiled at much...besides when he took off Lance's head with a steel chair.
Joe Everyman: I am extremely impactful Lance, as I have shown you before. You can call what I did to you a cheap shot all you want, but I call it a good advantage. When I took you out earlier this month, I did it out of spite and because I had to teach you a lesson. I wasn't doing it merely to attack you, I had a good reason for it. I had to get the fact in your head that I was just 'little Joey' anymore. Lance, I have since grown up since I was the young, blue chipper when I joined this place. I have since gotten stronger, faster, smarter and by far, better. Lance, I believe you are just afraid of the fact that I am going to surpass you. I can see it in your eyes. You can talk all the sh*t you want, but when it comes down to it, you are afraid of what is to come. You are afraid that your grand legacy is going to die out just like the other greats here. Nobody even talks about Dave Holland anymore. Jack Hammond has lost alot of his flair. Spike Kane is all but forgotten. And now it is your turn to join these men. Lance, you know that you will never be what you used to be. All of your greatness is in the past, and it is dead forever. So many heroes are dying, and it is finally time for me to step up and gain my way into that group of nCw legends. Lance, you can talk all day until your face is blue about how you will win the nCw World Heavyweight Championship for a record third time, but I will win the title before you even set eyes on it.
Oh? And how can you be so sure about that?
Joe Everyman: Who the hell is in here?
I am not in the room.
Joe Everyman: Then where is that voice coming from? Who are you?
Suddenly, Joe's phone starts ringing.
I hear voices in my head
They come to me
They understand
They tell me things that I will do
They show me things I'll do to you
They talk to me, they talk to me!
They come to me
They understand
They tell me things that I will do
They show me things I'll do to you
They talk to me, they talk to me!
Joe picks up the phone and looks at it and silences it quickly. He looks around the room, a tad bit paranoid now. He turns off the television and then stands up. He paces around the room for a moment before speaking ahead.
Joe Everyman: I said...who are you?
Joe...I am you.
Joe Everyman: So...I'm talking to myself? How is that possible?
It is because I say it is. Joe, I am your inner self. Your inner fire. I am here to offer my guidance.
Joe Everyman: So...you're my subconscious?
I guess you could say that.
Joe Everyman: But...why are you here? Why are you talking to me?
As I said...I am here to offer you help, and to offer you my guidance. Joe, I am the thing inside of you that has been building for so long now. I am your inner evil...and I am going to be the part of you that defeats Lance Ryan.
Joe Everyman: Do you think that I can't do it on my own?
It is not that Joe...it is just, this is a moment you can't just give up. This is a kill or be killed moment. You have to take it by the horns and drive it into the ground. The time has finally come to drive Lance Ryan down, and finally put a stop to his story tale comeback.
Joe Everyman: I know what I had to do...I know exactly what to do to beat Lance Ryan...
Do you really Joe? Look deep down inside yourself, and ask yourself...do you really have what it takes to defeat the Icon, Lance Ryan?
Joe Everyman: Yes.
Good...that is the fire that grows in you. Thoughts like that are the ones that feed me. Those thoughts are the one that fuel your inner fire, and it is thoughts like that, which have lead you to countless victories over your rivals. You beat Milo Holland, you beat JFK, you beat Spike Kane...now all that remains is Lance Ryan. You must defeat him...to much is riding on it to just let him walk out the winner. If he wins, he will go on to win the nCw World Heavyweight Champion. He will be cheered upon for countless more years, and he will have accomplished everything he set out to do. But while you, if you win...
Joe Everyman: If I win, everything Lance Ryan has said since he came back will be one, huge lie. Everyone will realize that Lance isn't worth the hype. They will realize that he deserves nothing more than what a returning "legend" should get. He will be kicked to the curb faster than a blink of an eye. He will be pushed under the wheels of the bus once and for all. All of his fans will turn their backs upon their fallen hero, and they will finally realize what I realized so long ago...that Lance Ryan is the past. They will realize that it is foolish to scream and yell and cheer for someone that has no future in this business. They will eventually see that I am the future...I am the future Lance. Everyone else sees it, but I guess I'm just going to have to beat you senseless until you finally see the truth!
Yes Joe...let it out...let it all out.
Joe Everyman: Lance, soon enough this future will be in full effect. You fans will flee, your family will weep, and your peers will forget. Every single person who has cared for Lance Ryan in the past will realize two things...that he was wrong, and I was right. Lance, I have been truthful all along. You are just too *** damn blind to see it. Everyone is too blind to see it. But after Battlegrounds, the truth will be so bright, nobody will be able to look past it. So many have already accepted this fate, and now it is your time to accept it as well. Lance, all you are now is dust in the wind. You will be seen for a few seconds, but after that, you are forgotten. Do you really think the fans gave a sh*t about you while you were gone? No. Do you think the wrestlers cared what so ever while you were gone? No. To be honest, I am doing all them favors. So many of them hate you Lance, and all I am doing it cleaning for the trash for everyone else. This is the future, this is destiny...and there is no possible way it will be altered.
Yes Joe, that is true. Lance Ryan will soon realize he never should have crossed paths with you. You are the future, and Lance will soon accept his defeat.
Joe Everyman: And then soon, I will become the nCw World Heavyweight Champion. I will further distance myself from Lance Ryan. I will show him that his career is dead. Alot of heroes are dying...and it is only a matter of time before new ones are born.
And that hero will be named Joe Everyman...
Joe smiles as the voice fades from the room. Joe looks around for a moment before sitting down in the chair. He gets lost in his thoughts as the scene fades out.
But you know he'll always keep movin'
You know he's never gonna stop movin'
Cause he's rollin'
He's the rollin' stone
And when you wake up it's a new mornin'
The sun is shinin' it's a new morning
You're goin'
You're goin' home
You know he's never gonna stop movin'
Cause he's rollin'
He's the rollin' stone
And when you wake up it's a new mornin'
The sun is shinin' it's a new morning
You're goin'
You're goin' home
