*The scene opens backstage in The Ace's locker-room, moments after the Xtreme Warfare match has concluded, the show goes on, but right now our focus is on Leon Wesker who is doing his best to clean up the blood and pull out the splinters of broken wood from The Ace's back as a result of going through the table.
Kathy is also there looking on a little concerned, her thoughts turn to her unborn child as she lays a hand on her own stomach, it was all so painfully clear to her now that The Ace should not be putting himself through this Hell if he didn't want to end up crippled before their second child was born.
She watched The Ace grimace with the removal of every splinter and her heart cried out to tell him to just walk away, just walk away. He didn't need to do this anymore. They had enough money. Just walk away, not for his own sake, not even for hers, but for the sake of the life they had created together.
But no, The Ace was as stubborn as a mule, Kathy knew that much of her husband, this wasn't just another devasting loss to him now, no, now this had become a matter of pride.
The Blonde Stallion was not one who took failing to jump the last hurdle lightly, he had not come this far to simply be denied the prize, no, now he was out to make a statement...*
Damn the selfish bastard.
But I still love him.
And I always will.
*After all the splinters were removed, Kathy spotted the staple between her husband's shoulder blades and winced as she imagined his pain, Leon removed it quickly so the pain would be short and sharp. The Ace grinned as Leon set it aside and cleaned the wound...*
Clearly that was the staple that broke the camel's back...
*The Ace chuckled*
How could he make jokes at a time like this?
Leon: Well it's good to see you haven't lost your sense of humour. Most of the guys in the back tell me you don't usually take losses this well...
Pah, it was only the Xtreme title, besides with Road To The Gold coming up and a performance like that I'm sure to be a shoe in once the brackets are announced, besides Xavier may have won the title but in the end I was the last man standing just like I was at last year's tournament and just like I will be again this year...mark my words, The Ace is going straight back to the top baby!
*Leon spots the staple in The Ace's left buttcheek and raises an eyebrow...*
Leon: Well I'd say you've certainly got some cheek...
Nonsense, I'm a staple of this company...
*Leon pulls the staple out as The Ace grits his teeth*
Owww...besides they can't afford to leave me behind...
Leon: No I suppose not...
*Both men laugh*
*Kathy reaches over and grabs The Ace's cellphone from a nearby table*
Kathy: It's from Chris Diamond...
Must be details of my first round tournament opponent...read it please babe....
Kathy: So close, yet so far away hey Ace? Just to tell ya keep your chin up, you got Burns next week in Xtreme Rules on Suspense...
WHAT? BLOODY HELL, I'M NOT SUPERMAN, ALL THESE XTREME RULES MATCHES, WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO DO, KILL ME?
Kathy: I hope not...
Leon: Ouch, that's a tough one, looks like I'll see you again in a week, but I have to say I thought they'd save the tournament matches for Trauma and Collision...
Me too, but you have to admit, there's something rather poetic about starting this year's tournament with the two men who ended last year's, the cycle continues, I like it...
*The scene fades away as Leon continues working on patching up The Ace for his next match, a mere five days away...*
I hate it.
*It was Monday, and just like the morning after the night before, the realisation of the greatest oversight in nCw history finally set in. The Ace was not in this year's most prestigious tournament, and neither was Burns.
Instead their spots had been squandered away to a worthless jobber and an inept former Xtreme Champion who would be more suited to the catwalk than the priviledge of becoming World Champion...*
How could they?
No. I'll go one better.
How DARE they?
*The Ace sat on his hotel bed and eyed his wife, who was across the room, as if she had the answers. Kathy knew better than to answer him when he was in this mood so for the sake of a little peace, she lent him her good wife ear and just listened whilst her ambitious husband vented his frustrations...*
Is my last name Kane?
Do I look like the type of person who can simply be the victim of an oversight?
And that nobody would pay for it?
Somebody will pay for your incompetence here Diamond, and somebody will pay dearly. Believe me, you will regret not giving me my rightful spot in the tournament this year - the tournament you know I'm more than capable of winning because I did it only last year....
The spot I earned by my performance in Xtreme Warfare last night.
The spot I deserve.
Instead you award it to Sexy Jason.
The very man I made my b*tch last night.
I ended his record setting Xtreme Title reign.
I ensured you a new Xtreme Champion.
And yet I am not rewarded?
Instead the man I destroyed reaps the reward and gets the ultimate consolation prize?
The man just lost one title and you give him a shot at earning another?
Gee, Chris, where was your generousity when I lost my World Title?
Mark my words sunshine, this will be the most costly mistake you've ever made.
You can hide in that suit.
You can say you're retired.
You can book me in matches that you think will break my resolve.
You can send as many of these eager piddly asses as you want to stop me.
But in the end they'll all fail.
In the end I will have what is mine.
Nobody can stop me.
Not you.
And certainly not Phillip Burns.
Burns, we've been here before, we've danced around all of this before, it all started two years ago when even as a rookie I beat you one on one in one of my very first matches for this company. Two months later, you beat me at Transgression. Then last year I whooped your ass in the Road to the Gold finals...
And so the cycle of our epic singles encounters continues.
Honestly, I can understand why you're not in the tournament this year. You have your National Championship shot, a shot that isn't even on the line this Friday because this company is so fundamentally biased against my attaining any sort of success. Instead I have always had to bite, scratch, and claw my way into any and every title picture...
Whilst all the loveable unreliables like Jason, Hexx and even you Burns can simply afford to get by on someone else's charity.
Before you deny it Phil, let me ask you this one very simple question....
What are you going to do now Angel's gone?
He was the only man who made you matter again after months of languishing in obscurity.
Now you have no Angel watching over you my friend.
You are no longer one half of the longest reigning Tag Team Champions in nCw history.
You are just Phillip Burns.
And I am not impressed.
I never have been.
You won your match by putting someone through a table.
I lost mine by being put through a table.
Burn Notice?
Russian Roulette?
Which shall prevail?
And so our cycle - is now in Suspense.
See you Friday.
*The Ace grins as he mockingly waves goodbye to the camera before it fades...*
