Charlie made his way to the gym to do his daily routine. He made his way out of the locker room and began his excersizes. The owner of the gym was an old friend from his first promotion and they often talked about the 'Good 'ol days' like it was yesterday. Charlie thought it was funny to think of it that way but they were old, and they were good. Maybe it was just that Charlie was only twenty five and Jake 'War Machine' Krauss was only thirty four and they were talking like old men already. Today wasn't much different. Charlie went from punching bag, to weight machines, to jumping jacks and the conversation went from 'that one match where...' and 'remember when...' and 'I still can't believe that happened'. They talked about Jake's new job as a backstage persona for Defiant Wrestling and Charlie's involvement with nCw. It was about the time when Charlie made it back to the bench for a break when his next match came up.
"So, what is it this week? Tables? Ladders? Chairs?"
"Oh my!...no. Four way. Three guys who can hold their own all fighting each other me. Been fun so far. Freakke's a good gimmick."
"Bah, Xombi was better I bet. Remember when you and Mike were the Graveyard Boyz?"
"Oh, there was some good news. Korpse and Xombi. The two ugliest tag partners ever. Mike was a little hotheaded on stage. He was always a good friend off stage though."
"When was the last time you saw him? He still wrestles for Defiant. Same gimmick that you left him with too. As hotheaded as ever. Management is thinking about letting him go though."
"Why?"
Jake sighed and shook his head.
"They wanna go with a more a less violent image. Less hardcore and his angry gimmick is too much. He's too recognizable in the company to give him a different one either."
"Ouch. Their gonna regret losing him."
"So whats your plan going into this match? I know you, you always have something up your sleeve."
Charlie laughed and Jake cracked a grin.
"But ref, I ain't got any sleeves."
Jake sat quietly and waited to see what his old friend would say. Charlie sighed and stood up.
"Well, gimmicky clown tricks won't help. I've been banking a little hard on the clown in ring. I think I'm gonna let all the gags drop when the bell rings and do what I always do. Give the fans a match to remember."
Charlie left shortly after, but not before hearing more from Jake concerning life and wrestling.
