Chad Lights has been working as an interviewer in the industry for quite some time now, and throughout the course of his tenure as a broadcast interviewer for nCw has become acquainted with an assortment of characters that were as unique and eccentric as any person could possibly hope to meet.
So, given his experience, it was only natural for him to feel a bit skeptical when he heard through the rumor mill that the competitor known as Terminus was about to enter New Championship Wrestling. Oh, he'd done his research, and read the stories about how he had been a dominant force in different federations; and he was well aware of the man's reputation for maintaining his cool even in the face of severe adversity.
On the surface, it was pretty impressive; but Chad had witnessed countless others enter this fed with similar amounts of hype, only to fail miserably as soon as they stepped inside the ring.
With that in mind, Chad figured it was best to avoid getting caught up in the hype, and continued to do so even after he had the chance to interview the man himself at the Battlegrounds Pay Per View.
He had to admit that he was intrigued by the masked man's assertion that his main reason for entering nCw was to honor his friendship with Brad Kane, and also had to grant that he was kind of impressed with the matter of fact tone in which those words were stated. Still, he knows very well that the passage of time and the pressure to live up to expectations can change a person's attitude in a hurry, and he's interested to see if that might have happened with Terminus since they last talked.
So, that's why he's standing outside the door of his locker room, and rapping his knuckles upon its surface even as he hears the voice of Natalie Snow hissing curses from the other side of the room. After a moment, the door files open, and Chad views the masked man's lovely wife standing at the entrance with an incredibly annoyed expression upon her face.
Natalie: Oh, for the love of all things unholy...What in the bloody hell do you want, you...!?
Chad watches Natalie stop herself in mid-sentence, and then smooth her features to stillness as she stares at him.
Natalie: I'm sorry, Chad, but I'm certain that you'll forgive me when I tell you that this might not be the best time to conduct an interview with my husband...
Chad: I understand that, Natalie...But I think the viewing public would like to hear he might have to say about the opponents that he'll be facing in tonight's Fatal Four Way Match, and about his experiences to date in New Championship Wrestling...
Natalie: Look, Chad...I know that you're just trying to do your job, but...
Terminus, calling out from inside the room: Who's at the door, Natalie?
Natalie: Chad Lights...He wants to ask a couple of questions.
Terminus, after a few seconds of silence: That shouldn't be a problem, Nat. Feel free to let him in...
Natalie sighs, but nods her head, and Chad watches her step to the side while regarding him with a pleading expression on her face.
Natalie: Please be brief, Chad.
Chad: I will, Natalie. I promise.
Chad steps into the room with his camera crew in tow and regards the sight of Terminus seated in the bench before him as he finishes wrapping the final layer of tape around his wrists. After a moment, the nCw newcomer looks up at Chad and nods in his direction.
Terminus: Hello, Chad...I understand you wanted to ask me a couple of questions?
Chad: That's correct, Terminus.
Terminus: Do these questions pertain to the match that I'm about to have this evening?
Chad: Um...Some of them do, anyway.
Terminus, arching an eyebrow at the interviewer's reply: I see. Well, what would you like to know?
Chad: Well, I guess I should begin by asking the obvious question...What are your thoughts about engaging in a contest where one can be defeated without being pinned, and how do you prepare yourself to deal with the onslaught of three other men who seem just as determined to gain the victory as you appear to be?
Terminus: That's a good question, and I don't think that there's an easy way to provide an answer.
I guess the best that one can hope for in this type of match setting is to be able to make certain that they are able to remain aware of where each opponent is at all times, and to anticipate the next action that they might wish to take...
Chad: That's easier said than done, Terminus.
Terminus: True, but I can say with all honestly that in the past, I've been able to keep my focus in these types of situations, and to watch as others lose their concentration for the split-second needed to allow me to secure the victory. Really, I see no reason to believe that this match will be any different from those other affairs.
Chad: I'm certain that you're opponents might have something to say about that...
Terminus: Oh, I'm certain that they will, Chad.
I'm certain that throughout the course of the discussion that we're about to have, Freakke the Clown will make arguments that are designed to prove to me that he deserves to be taken seriously as a competitor.
I'm certain that Alex Jones will make similar arguments, while attempting to prove to me that his change of name might really be the catalyst needed to resuscitate a career that has been on life-support for quite some time.
And, I'm also certain that Curtis Kanyon will argue that is something more than an inbred idiot, and that he's capable of doing something more than insulting the intelligence of everyone around him whenever he opens his mouth to speak.
For, I consider it to be an insult to my intelligence to have to listen to Kanyon claim that his involvement in his team's victory last week was any greater than it was. Kanyon insults the intelligence of the average kindergarten student when he tries to distract others from the fact that it was Xavier Cross who actually secured the victory for the team, and that it was Cross who saved Kanyon from being choked into a state of unconsciousness when was he was trapped inside Corvis' Blackout.
Kanyon insults the intelligence of a mentally challenged parakeet when he boasts that I am somehow relying upon hope to win this match, rather than the massive advantage that I possess over him in terms of speed, skill and smarts. He insults everyone's intelligence when he attempts to intimidate me, or anyone else with his foul mouthed diatribes and non-stop barrage of B.S...
But, what truly insults my intelligence is that he actually seems to think that I will happily stand there and allow him to drive his shoulder into me with his so-called Dirty Demolition, rather than meet his charge with a kick that shall penetrate through that thick skull of his and cause even more damage to that barely used lump of muscle that he was the unmitigated gall to refer to as his brain.
Still...I'm prepared to listen to what Mister Kanyon and the others have to say, and to absorb each and every one of their arguments, before I go about to business of making my own points during the course of this conversation.
I'm prepared to make my opponents understand that just because I'm new to this particular federation does not mean that I have the capability to end this contest in the blink of an eye, and to do so at their expense, regardless of how experienced or accomplished they might be in nCw.
I'm prepared to do whatever is needed to ensure that by the end of the match, these three men understand just how much of a threat I can be, and just how determined I am to make my own vision of the future come to pass.
And, regardless of whatever they might have to say, I'm prepared to make damned good and certain that by time this discussion has been concluded, I will have been the one to have had the Last Word.
So, if you'll excuse me, Chad, I think I should now depart to make certain that happens...
Terminus nods to his wife and they begin to rise to their feet, only to stop when Chad quickly asks another question just as they begin to walk through the locker room exit.
Chad: Actually, Terminus, if you don't mind, there's one final question I'd like to ask of you, and while it doesn't pertain to the match itself, it's something that I think a lot of people want to know...
Chad watches Natalie roll her eyes, but Terminus simply turns around and stares expectantly in his direction.
Chad: I realize that you've only had one match in nCw, but I'd like to know how the experience of being part of this federation might have changed you, in terms of the way you approach your matches, and the goals you wish to achieve.
Chad watches the expression of the masked man grow contemplative as he considers his response, but any answer that he might wish to provide is cut short by the sound of a female voice calling out to him from down the hall.
"Go ahead, Evan...Answer the question.
Chad watches Terminus and Natalie turn their attention to the sight of a red-headed young woman who is staring at them through eyes that blaze with a mixture of hatred and anger.
"Tell this interviewer how much you've changed ever since you've entered this federation, and how much you've benefited from this experience...
Tell him anything you want, Evan...But deep down, we both know that's a lie, don't we?
Deep down, we both know that you haven't changed one bit, and that you're the same inconsiderate jackass that's completely incapable of keeping his word to anyone!
Chad hears a low growl emerge from the throat of Natalie Snow as she prepares to charge in the direction of the woman, but Terminus places a hand on her shoulder to restrain her, and then whispers something into her ear that causes her to calm down, at least to an extent.
The nCw broadcast interviewer then turns his attention back to Terminus, who smiles slightly through his mask as steps forward and speaks into Lights' extended microphone, all the while keeping his eyes fixed upon the woman down the hall.
Terminus: Actually, in a sense, my friend Mary Katherine here might be right...
There really hasn't been been much change in my attitude since I've arrived in nCw. I'm still determined to fulfill the promise that I made to myself, and prove my worth as a competitor in this federation, and as a friend to the Kanes...
And, indeed, if there's been any change at all, it's that I'm even more willing to do whatever is needed to make certain that happens...
Whether certain people like it or not.
With that, Terminus and Natalie spin on their heels and begin to make their way toward the arena entrance, while a clearly infuriated Mary Katherine continues to shot after them.
Mary Katherine: I'm going to enjoy watching you fall, Evan Andrews!
Terminus, without bothering to look back: I'm certain that you will, M.K., but I think you might be waiting quite some time before that happens.
Chad Lights can only stand in the corridor as he watches the couple turn the corner and walk out of view, and when he turns to look in the other direction, notes that Mary Katherine has disappeared as well.
So, he's left there by himself, shaking his head as he processes what he's just heard and witnessed, while realizing that he still doesn't have any further idea about who this guy really is, and whether he'll be able to live up to his hype...
But, Chad does know one thing for certain...
It will be interesting as hell to watch him try.
