~*~*~Words are so easy to utter. So simply they come from between our lips and roll off our tongue. Lies, truths and everything in between come pouring out when we open our mouths. Words can hurt, words can cause one to fall in love, words can cause a myriad of emotions and can cause others to react in a myriad of ways. Words leave a lasting impression, and can change lives.~*~*~
~*~*~Lance Ryan is standing backstage after an nCw house show. He is still dressed in his ring gear and appears to be fired up as he is pacing back and forth in front of the Night of Champions logo. Beside him Chad Lights is trying to get into position.~*~*~[/i]
Chad Lights: Testing…testing….
Lance: Come on Chat, get that thing working! I need to let the world know what’s on my mind!
Lights: Lance, just give me a second, it takes a moment to set up the interview area. It doesn’t just all come together on it’s own.
~*~*~Lance finally has enough and he grabs the microphone from Chad’s hands, shoves him out of the scene and looks into the camera.~*~*~[/i]
Lance: Is this thing on?
~*~*~The camera man nods his head.~*~*~[/i]
Lance: Good! Joe, I have a few things to say to you. I have been walking around now for the better part of week after listening to your pointless drivel, and let’s be honest, all that ever seems to come out of your mouth is rehashed comments that reflect on history and memories that you have combined with the lies that you make yourself believe. In fact, I am going to rehash something for you that you seem to live off of, something you bring up all the time. It’s a quote that you have carried with you now for a long time…a quote by me.
~*~*~Lance unravels a piece of paper and reads it aloud.~*~*~[/i]
Lance: People look at Joe Everyman and see a man that has always seemingly been on the cusp of something great, but someone that has always fallen short when the opportunity arose. Joe Everyman’s name really sums up exactly who he is. He represents every man, woman and child in the world that has a dream, a dream that people laugh at when they express it, a dream that may in fact seem impossible to the majority of people. Those people however are what are generally called the unbelieving public. These are your atheists that believe that there can be no God because he cannot be seen in the world around us. These are your hurting teenagers that feel as though they cannot live any longer because their lives will always be horrible. They believe this because bad is all that they have ever seen. These are the people that will undoubtedly look up to Joe Everyman when all is said and done. These are the people that will stand up and cheer because Joe Everyman is once again restoring faith in people that have little to believe in.
Joe, you live by these words so much that you have this exact quote inside your bio. Perhaps it is time that I clear something up for you, every one of those words is nothing but a lie. I said those things because at that time we were on the same side of a war. I needed to do everything in my power to get you to believe in yourself, that way you could at least be of some use to me.
~*~*~Lance folds the paper back up and stuff it in his pocket. He begins to pace back and forth again as he speaks.~*~*~[/i]
Lance: Lately Joe, you seem to have the opposite problem. You seem to be of the belief that you are the greatest wrestler around. You trumpet your “great winning streak”, you talk about how you defeated the “great Lance Ryan”, and you can’t help but wonder why all of the people continue to cheer me and boo you. The answer is simple. You are nothing like those people in the crowd, you have never felt what it was like to live in their shoes. You don’t know what their lives are like, you are nothing like the average wrestling fan Joe, and because you cannot associate with them, they do not want to understand or care about you.
Joe, the people that you long to have love from, the people that you feel should find you relevant, they are like me. People like me have no use for people like you. We are liars, we are cheaters and we make mistakes. We are all imperfect. I have no idea who the hell you think you are walking around here and telling the fans that you deserve to be cheered. I would think that you have been around this business long enough to understand that you cannot tell the people who to love and who to hate, but most of all you cannot make the fans enjoy someone that has no charisma, no talent and gets by on flukes alone. Joe, let’s be honest here, you have had all of the chances in the world to make it. You have had the best mentors and team mates that nCw could ever provide you. Management has given you every chance possible to win the “big one” and you fail miserably every time. You always fight your ass off to get to the top, but when you get there it’s always the same story. The higher you climb, the farther the fall. And every time you climb that fall is inevitable, unavoidable and definite. Are you ready to fall again?
~*~*~Lance now starts walking backstage now and motions for the cameraman to follow him and he obeys. Likely trying to avoid the same shove that Chad Lights received when he didn’t get things done. Lance stops at a huge post-up that seems to show the lineage of the nCw titles. He drags his finger along the list of National Champions.~*~*~[/i]
Lance: Two and a half months, and 21 days. Wow Joe, you know, I forgot how pathetic your title reigns were. I mean, it is easy to forget when you claim that the National Title is “your title”. I mean, at least when I claim that the World Title is my title, I can back that up with two pretty solid title reigns…what did you accomplish? This past week I heard you utter something about being in the history books? Well, you were right, I actually think that 14 days will tie the shortest title reign in the history of the National Championship…so…I suppose that will put you in the history books. Joe, everything that you do is a fluke, and there is absolutely no chance that you are going to pull out another fluke victory over me. You may be a three time National Champion, but I am going to win my first National Title at the same event that I BUILT! Road to the Gold is my pay per view, Road to the Gold is a place where I have won a lot of gold. Let me remind you. In 2007, I became the first World Champion in nCw history, in 2008 I won the tag team titles with Adam Knite. 2009 is here, and it is time for me to add a new piece of gold to the mantle. Three years, three different titles. Sounds like fate to me. See, I believe in fate Joe Everyman. It is fated that I will win my first national title at the same place that I won my first world title and my first tag team title. It is fated that you will once again falter when put into a position of respectability. It is fated that there is no chance that you can hold YOUR spot. Most of all it is fated that just like every other time that you have done something great in your life, you are about to **** it all up.
~*~*~Lance keeps walking and finally stops outside of his locker room. Lance Ryan is emblazoned on the door, and Lance taps right underneath his name.~*~*~[/i]
Lance: See this Joe? This is something that happens for the select few that actually manage to mean something in this business. This is a personal locker room. A room that prevents me from having to be around the smell of sweaty beasts and their meanderings, most of all a room to keep me away from complete and utter mediocrity, mediocrity like Joe Everyman.
Joe, last year I said that people would look up to you as a hero, and as much as they boo you, they do look up to you. People realize that you are a hero for the hopeless, for the lost and for the hurting. Do you know why? Because anything is better than being dead. When you have hit rock bottom you don’t look up to people that are great, people like myself for example. Instead you look for something that seems more attainable. When you have nothing, it is easy to look up to someone that seems to have something. Joe, you will always be loveable, a loveable loser. It’s just that the people that are cheering you on aren’t sitting in the crowds at our live events. The real Joe Everyman fans are sitting in the streets begging for money, hanging out in graveyards and slitting their wrists and hanging their heads as their hooded heads stare down at the ground. To them Joe you are a step up the evolutionary ladder. They long to be like you…perhaps one day you can have some people with fans cheer your name…but this Sunday will not be that day, you are about to run headlong into an opponent that is steps up the ladder farther than you. A man that doesn’t lose when he is challenging for a title, a man that is not a loveable loser, but instead a hero to the run of the mill Joe’s out there that wish to be the best at what they do. Those are the fans that ay our bills, and those are the fans that you will hear screaming and cheering when I am announced as the man that ends your streak at 14 days. Joe, lightning doesn’t strike twice, and face it, you have only beat me once. Wake up from your fantasy, I….AM….BETTER…THAN….YOU.
