~*~*~It’s all been show before, beaten to death really, every week before a pay per view we get plenty of sightings, plenty of arrivals being shown. Wrestlers arriving at hotels, wrestlers arriving at airports, it’s the same old song and dance, right? Well, here we are again, day before another major pay per view, and watching on as the big names come into a posh hotel preparing for their big night, Road to the Gold III. We watch as Brad Kane stands quietly to one side with a grimace on his face as his wife picks up their room key. We watch on as we see Falcon arrive, and Steve Awesome arrive. Big names abound, and fans are around everywhere snapping photos and trying to get glimpses of the next big name to arrive, suddenly off camera a lot of shouting and screaming can be heard, and it gets louder as we see a few men in black suits come into the camera view. They are holding fans back and suddenly through the mob of fans, we see Lance Ryan suck into view, holding the hand of his wife, Cassandra, who is holding and covering their son, Zell. The three make it safely into the hotel lobby and chants start to break out from the few fans that have been allowed in. They start chanting “Thank you I-Con, Thank you I-con” and Lance grins from ear to ear as he walks up to the front desk and fills out some paperwork quickly and then steps back, taking Zell from Cassandra so that she can fill out some paperwork as well.~*~*~[/i]
Lance Ryan: I bet you Joe Everyman has never felt the love of the fans like this.
~*~*~Cassandra now takes Zell back from Lance, and Lance grabs the suitcases from one of the security guards. The Ryan family head off down a hall together and we follow them closely as they make their way into the hotel’s main area.~*~*~[/i]
Cassandra: You know that he has never heard chants and cheers like that, at no point in his career has he ever been anywhere near your level. Even when the fans hated you, they still had more respect for you, they always know what they are going to get from you in that ring babe.
Lance: Oh, I know. Joe Everyman has a history of mailing it in and of not giving the same level of effort every night. It seems like it depends upon his opponent and the occasion…if he feels that it’s worth it, then he will get up for that match, but if he knows that he will be out classed, he mails it in. Kind of pathetic, you see though Cass, that is what the fans notice. That is why he gets no love from the people in the seats. They know their stuff, they are like wine connaiseurs. They know what they like, and they know what a good performer is.
~*~*~Lance stops and puts the bag down as he gets the room key from Cassandra and opens the door to their room. He holds the door open for Cassandra and he lets her and Zell in. He kisses both on the head as they pass by.~*~*~[/i]
Lance Ryan: I will be back in a bit babe, there is something that I need to do, someone that I need to go say hello to for the first time since I came back. I have a little bit of unfinished business as pertains to a man that I have often referred to as my brother.
Cassandra: Be careful Lance, he seems to be a little loose lately, you don’t need to get into a brawl before your huge match tomorrow.
Lance: Relax sweetheart, I know what I am doing. I think that all that Brad needs is to know that there is someone in his corner, and someone that loves him no matter what happens tomorrow in the hellacious match. I know what I am doing.
~*~*~Just as Lance is set to leave the room he is interrupted by Carly Robbins who comes quickly up behind Lance. Cassandra can be seen rolling her eyes as she sees Carly approach, and without warning she jumps right into her gig.~*~*~[/i]
Carly: Ladies and Gentlemen I am standing here with Lance Ryan, the challenger this week for the nCw National Title. Lance, I see that you have arrived with your family now and must be ready for this match with Joe, what are your thoughts heading into this war with a man that many consider to be one of your biggest adveseries in your time here in nCw?
Lance: Surely you saw what I did to Lights this week Carly? I am not, nor have I ever been a fan of interviewers. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt today, you keep up with me and you can have this interview, there is something that I need to do. Cassandra, I will see you in a little bit, I love you.
~*~*~Carly hands Lance a portable microphone which he hooks to his shirt and she follows him down the hall.~*~*~[/i]
Lance: As far as Joe Everyman goes, I don’t think that I have held back how I feel about the man. I used to believe in him, I used to believe that he was the future of this company, hell, I endorsed him on more than one occasion, but now he has proven that he is incapable of taking the steps needed to reach the top, he has proven that he doesn’t have what it takes to be the best, and he will never fill the boots of men like myself, Spike Kane and all of the other greats that came before him. Joe Everyman makes a lot of mistakes, and he is on the cusp of making a huge one, stepping into the ring with me at Road to the Gold is nothing but choosing disaster. I will defeat him and for the third straight year, as I have said, I will go home with a championship.
Carly: What do you have to say to the accusations by Joe that you are a liar and that everything that you have said this week is bull****? He seems adamant on those facts as he has repeated them over and over and over again, seems to be the only thing that he has to say to you.
Lance: Well Carly, you have been around long enough to know that Joe Everyman has a lot of opinions that follow him around the locker room. We all joke that he is a no show. We all know that he doesn’t bring his best stuff every night, and we also all know that he is one of the best in the business at dragging one comment into a ten minute interview. Joe Everyman has a problem that is bigger than his own need to be accepted, and that is the fact that he believes his own hype.
Joe made two huge accusations this week when pointing out that he believes that I am a liar. He said that he has proven that lighting strikes twice in one spot by beating me, and he stated that he has indeed won the “big one”. First of all, let me clear my name, not that I need to, the fans know who I am now, I am not a liar. My days of deceit and dishonor have come to an end. I am a family man. I have cleaned up my image, and I am most intent on taking care of my family whilst I do what I love, that being wrestling. Now, let me explain a few things that that knucklehead Joe Everyman doesn’t understand.
Joe, lightning striking twice is a saying that is used to represent the repeating of something occurring that does not have a high probability of occurring in the first place. Let me explain something to you, you defeating me is improbable, my success is expected. Therefore, you defeating me twice would be like catching lightning in the bottle, I would bet you anything that you don’t have a hope in hell of defeating me TWICE.
Now, let me explain another turn of phrase for you, winning the “big one” pertains to winning the major title in any organization. Winning one match against a great wrestler is not “the big one”. Winning a lower level title three times does not make a legend. You seem so sure that you have won the big one Joe, but the fact that you do not understand that statement pretty much is a great metaphor for what you have done in your career. You believe that you are one thing, when reality is different and everyone around you sees you for what you really are. Perhaps that is why you get so sick of the same jokes, maybe you need to realize that we aren’t kidding around when we say that you are an incomplete package. I mean, if that many people say one thing and you alone say the opposite, perhaps it is not the majority that needs to make the change of opinion. National Championships may in fact be your idea of reaching the top, if so, who am I to judge? Some people need to aim lower so they can get that sense of satisfaction.
Carly: Lance, I realize that Joe seems to be misinformed, but one thing that he does have is a claim to a victory over you at Battlegrounds. You cannot deny that that is a fact. How can you be so sure that Joe will not defeat you again?
Lance: Joe did beat me. There, I said it. It doesn’t matter if it was a fluke, doesn’t matter if it was by chance, all that matters is that Joe Everyman defeated Lance Ryan and it is in the record books. However, what does matter to me is that Joe Everyman seems to have a very different memory yet again then everyone else. Joe, I saw what you had to say earlier today, telling everyone that maybe missed the show that you kicked my ass all over the arena at Battlegrounds. You see, if you want to find a liar so badly, find a mirror. I was in that match, and somehow I don’t seem to be able to recall any point where you whipped my ass, in fact, I remember a highly competitive match that ended with you pulling out a lightning quick victory. I don’t see, no matter how many times I watch that match, how you see such a definitive victory.
The other thing that I want to know Joe is how you deem that I had everything to gain and everything to lose in a match against you. In what world are you higher up the food chain than I am? In what ****ed up belief system am I the one that needs to beat you? Joe, people expected me to win our match, just like people expect me to win this match with you. Look around Joe, nobody believes that you have what it takes to take me down. You are always going to be the one with everything to gain in match with me. You win, we have an upset, I win, it is expected.
Carly: I cannot disagree with that Lance, last question. Joe seems intent on the fact that he has proven that you are washed up and that you have fallen from the top more than he has, what do you say to those two comments?
Lance: Short and sweet Carly. As far as me tumbling down the mountain, as I said earlier, Joe Everyman has never reached the summit, once one reaches the top it is inevitable that they will be knocked down and need to start the climb again. Nobody ever stays on top forever. The problem for Joe is that he has no idea what it is like to be at the pinnacle of this business.
As far as Joe saying that I am washed up, gee, I don’t think I have ever heard that one before. Let me answer your question in that regard with one of my own. If I am washed up and such a waste of space, then why does Joe trumpet the fact that he beat me so much? Clearly I cannot be so washed up if it’s such a big deal to defeat me. Joe, straight up, you are in for one hell of a fight this weekend. This match is as close to “THE BIG ONE” as you will ever, ever get. Taking on Lance Ryan with a title of any kind on the line is a big fight atmosphere. My “A” game will be in full effect, and my drive will be just a little bit higher than it was last time we met. Where I made a mistake before, there will be no mistake. Where there was a loss last time, there will now be victory. Joe Everyman, best of luck my friend, you are in for another fall.
Carly: One last quest….\
~*~*~Lance stops outside the door of another hotel room and he turns and looks at Carly.~*~*~[/i]
Lance: Time’s up carly. I have business to attend to.
~*~*~Carly steps out of camera view now as Lance knocks on the door in front of him. We see the peephole darken as someone looks through at Lance. A long pause ensues and the door opens. We see the frame of Brad Kane step through the door and close it behind him. He stands up straight and looks deep into the eyes of Lance Ryan. The two stare deeply at one another in a long moment of awkward silence.~*~*~[/i]
Lance: I’m here for one reason and one reason alone, to set things straight. I haven’t looked you in the eyes since you nearly killed me and ended my career in one night. I came here to look you straight in the eyes and tell you that regardless of what happens tomorrow night at Road to the Gold, there is one thing that is true. I ****ing hate Reckless Jack. I hate what he has done to me, I hate what he has done to you, and whether you win or lose…
~*~*~Brad seems to be expecting some harsh words or confrontation and he steps a step forward to Lance.~*~*~[/i]
Brad Kane: Lance, don’t.
Lance: Whether you win or lose, you will always be my brother. The past is the past, and I know that Spike has said a lot of **** and done a lot of things. He deserves what he gets when he gets into the ring with you tomorrow, and he will get an ass kicking. What he doesn’t deserve is the privilege of saying that he has the same blood coursing through his veins that you do. He is an asshole, you are a saint, justice will be served, and you will always be my brother.
~*~*~Brad steps back a little in shock and Lance reached out and grabs Brad’s hands to shake with him. Brad tugs Lance in and they share an embrace.~*~*~[/i]
Brad: Bring home the National Title Lance.
Lance: I plan to bro. Age of the Evolution may be dead, but tomorrow night the core of the Revolution will again reign supreme.
